Shelter

After boarding out of the car, Elsa curiously watched the surroundings. The neighborhood was quiet, with tall trees lining the streets and a soft breeze rustling their leaves. Alan glanced at her with a frown, his expression unreadable. He led the way to the building entrance, and they entered the lift, ascending to the seventh floor.

On the seventh floor, there were only two apartments, both with large balconies adorned with a variety of plants, their green leaves and vibrant flowers adding a touch of life to the otherwise plain corridor. Alan unlocked the door to one of the apartments and gestured for Elsa to enter. The living room was welcomed her with a hint of elegance and cozy. Then he led her to her room.

As soon as Elsa stepped inside, she found herself in a huge room, simply decorated yet cozy. A study table stood by the floor to ceiling window, accompanied by two chairs, a cupboard, and a bed with an attached bathroom.

"This is nice," Elsa murmured to herself, taking in the details. She felt a sense of relief wash over her.

Alan stood by the door, watching her quietly. "Make yourself at home," he said curtly before heading to the living room.

Elsa nodded, appreciating his hospitality despite his reserved demeanor. She headed to the bathroom, refreshed herself, and put on a clean set of clothes. At home, she usually wore light and comfortable attire, but here, in a man's house, she chose to dress more conservatively. She selected a simple white t-shirt and pink pajamas, ensuring her outfit was presentable in the mirror before stepping out of her room.

She found Alan in the living room, seated on the sofa, sipping tea and scrolling through his phone. Gathering her courage, she walked over and coughed lightly to get his attention. Alan looked up, his eyes meeting hers.

Her face was bare of makeup, her natural beauty shining through. Her long hair was tied into a bun, and her attire, though simple, made her look effortlessly charming.

She noticed his eyes were calm without any ripples. Her heart wavered with an unknown emotions.

"Thank you for letting me stay here," Elsa said softly, her gratitude genuine.

Alan nodded, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer before returning to his phone. "It's nothing, you're Mia's close friend. It's only natural for me to help," he replied simply, his voice steady.

Elsa felt a mix of relief and curiosity about this enigmatic man who had offered her shelter without asking for anything in return. She took a seat in a nearby chair, watching him as he sipped his tea, wondering what had led them to this peculiar yet comforting arrangement.

The evening passed quietly, with Elsa feeling more at ease in Alan's apartment. As night fell, she looked out from the balcony, the city lights twinkling in the distance, and felt a sense of sadness enveloped her which she had suppressed for a long time. Whatever had brought her here, she missed her home and her dear ones.
