Prologue The Sleepless Night

The night was cold and almost silent, deep in the forest stood an aged estate. The sky was bright, stars winking and twinkling left and right, as far as the eye could see. An elderly lady stood under the rooftop of her patio watching the sky with slight admiration.

“My love… Why are you still awake at such time?” an elderly man called, walking out of the house with a lantern in hand. The woman shushed him, as she kept her eyes on the sky with pure concentration, “Kai, look. The star it's getting bigger!” she called out with wide eyes.

In the center of the sky, where the moon usually stood at its highest point, was a large star that kept growing steadily. The man and woman both gaped at the star as it started falling from the sky, “Hannako I don't think that's even a star.” Kai muttered in shock standing next to his wife.

“Sleepless Night, a child of the night is born... When the sun goes down beware the Sleepless Night...” she softly whispered, having remembered the day when she was still young. A woman dressed in odd clothes had grabbed her hands and whispered those words to her with such ecstatic.

“A child shall be born from a star, the goddess of the Night.” her eyes widened with pure happiness, she pulled Kai's sleeve watching the star grow and land about several meters away from their house, their home. “Kai go get a blanket!” the woman shouted and ran off to where the star, was still alight.

Kai looked worried but listened to his wife, running into the house and getting a blanket before rushing to find his wife. He stood before the ball of light that was slowly fading, crumbling and turning into dust.

“Kai! It's a baby! A baby girl has been gifted to us!” Hannako cheered with tears of happiness falling down her cheeks as she looked at the small baby that was sleeping peacefully. Kai stood froze holding the lantern in one hand and the blanket in the other, “A... A baby?” he uttered.

He slowly walked over to Hannako who was dearly picking the baby up, with such a motherly happiness on her face. “Kai look at her, she's so gorgeous...” Hannako whispered, the baby slowly moving in her arms, the baby girl's eyes opened.

Soft pink eyes met with bright emerald eyes, “Hannako... How did you know?” Kai asked handing the blanket to his wife and watching the baby girl with wide hickory eyes. “The crazy woman, she told me when I was still a child...” Hannako softly said, standing up and looking at the pink eyed child in her arms.

“We need a name for her, she can't go around without a name.” Hannako spoke up with an happy tone of voice, as she carried the girl in one arm and held out her free hand to the girl. The man took a breathe and looked at the baby that took hold of Hannako's finger with her tiny hand.

“Mingmei Xifeng..”
