As soon as she finished breakfast, Mrs. Leticia set off with Artica and her youngest son towards the shopping center. Artica looked on in amazement. They entered through a huge door, and there were several stores on either side. The center was like a street with a fountain in the middle. People passing by stopped to look at her; they found the tall young woman with white hair, blue-gray eyes, and fair skin striking and intriguing. The way she returned their gaze made them unable to hold it and they continued on their way, bowing their heads.
"ARTICA... COME... LET'S GO INTO THIS STORE. Mrs. Leticia calls her attention as she sees her standing in the middle of the sidewalk looking all around."
"MOMMY... I WANT TO GO SEE THE PETS. Jose pleads, pointing to the store that sold them."
"WAIT... WE'LL CHOOSE SOME CLOTHES AND THEN WE'LL GO. Her mother reassures him, not wanting to have any pets to take care of, she didn't have the time for it."
*( IN A COFFEE SHOP ACROSS FROM THE BOUTIQUE)
At that moment, a tall man with black hair and dark brown eyes was in a cafe, wearing a tailored black suit, meeting with a group of men. When he sees the young woman enter the store across the street, he stares seriously in her direction.
"GARRA... DO YOU AGREE WITH WHAT I SAID?. The man to his right asks, calling his attention."
"BRANDON... I'D LIKE TO KNOW... WHO IS THAT YOUNG WOMAN?. He says, pointing in Artica's direction."
"GARRA... WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?. He asks, bewildered."
Garra looked at him seriously, so he bowed his head and nodded. When his friend asked him for something, he should just obey without asking questions. He belonged to one of the most prestigious families in the city and was about to open his own company at a very young age. He very rarely showed interest in anything, especially in any woman.
"WE CONCLUDE. He expects, getting up, so the others do too, greeting him with respect. He heads towards the store."
"GARRA IF YOU NEED SOMETHING... I'LL HAVE IT SENT TO YOU. Brandon says nervously as he follows him, not wanting to have the incident of the last time when Garra was spotted by some of the young women of high society who were after him."
"SHUT UP. He snapped impatiently, wanting to meet Artica's gaze, for some strange reason. Turning around, he stared in astonishment, but hid his expression behind his dark glasses."
Artica felt a particular aroma that caught her attention, so she turned to look. Her eyes sparkled with a unique brightness, that man had something, she could sense it, she watched him without looking away, as if trying to see through those glasses the eyes that were watching her.
"ARTICA. Mrs. Leticia called her, so she turned and went in her direction."
"GARRA... I DON'T KNOW IF YOU FELT IT... THAT YOUNG WOMAN'S AURA. His friend asks. Garra seriously watches, turning to leave, for the first time feeling that shiver running through his body, he knew she had something and wanted to find out what it was that caught his attention."
Artica, subtly, out of the corner of her eye, watched the stranger walk away with an imposing bearing. That aroma she felt seemed strange in a person, she remained pensive trying to decipher where she had felt it before, as it seemed familiar.
"ARTICA... TRY THIS. Mrs." Leticia said, handing her jeans and a t-shirt, to which she nodded, heading where she indicated. Once she chose blue jeans with a white t-shirt and a blue jacket. She bought her a cap and glasses that she asked for to cover her eyes from the brightness of the sun.
Mrs. Leticia felt comfortable buying her what she needed, she was not demanding in her tastes, on the contrary, she was grateful.
"YOU ARE VERY KIND... I WILL TAKE CARE OF THE CHORES AS THANKS... IF YOU WANT I CAN HELP YOU WITH THE FOOD... I CAN WORK TO PAY YOU BACK WHAT YOU SPEND." Artica said, and Mrs. Leticia smiled, seeing her so willing and kind.
"DON'T WORRY... IT'S A GIFT... AND YOU SHOULDN'T WORK... YOU SHOULD STUDY AT YOUR AGE. Mrs. Leticia assures her."
"EVEN SO I WOULD LIKE TO REPAY YOUR TROUBLE. Artica insists."
"I'LL ACCEPT YOUR HELP IN THE HOUSE... IT'S NEVER A BAD THING... AND I'LL HELP YOU FINISH YOUR STUDIES... THERE ARE NIGHT COURSES... OR YOU COULD TAKE A FINAL EXAM... WHILE WE FIND YOUR PARENTS... BUT YOU MUST GET TRAINED. Mrs. Leticia proposes."
"THANK YOU VERY MUCH... THIS WAY WHEN I MEET MY PARENTS THEY WILL SEE THAT I WASN'T IDLE AS MY FATHER USED TO SAY. She comments, encouraged to have the hope of reuniting with them."
Mrs. Leticia encouraged her not to lose hope of finding her parents, "if you always have a goal, you can achieve anything" she thought.
"LET'S GO SEE YOUR GRANDMOTHER. She reminded her."
Artica saw Jose playing bored with the toy car he had brought and gestured to Mrs. Leticia, pointing at him, she looked at him tenderly and proposed.
"AND BECAUSE YOU'VE BEEN A GOOD BOY... I'LL BUY YOU AN ICE CREAM. Leticia told her little one."
"YAY!... WITH TWO SCOOPS." He asked happily.
"I'LL BUY ONE FOR BOTH OF YOU. Mrs. Leticia announced, thinking that Artica had not tasted it for a long time."
"DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME." Artica said, politely refusing her invitation, she didn't know if she could eat ice cream, her mother hadn't given her any before, so she preferred to refuse.
They passed by the ice cream shop, bought sky cream and banana split ice cream for Jose. They waited for him to eat his ice cream peacefully, once he finished, his mother tells him.
"WELL TREASURE... YOU FINISHED.(Leticia speaks while cleaning Jose's face)." WELL LET'S GO TO THE HOSPITAL OR WE'LL BE LATE. She told them, looking at the time.
They arrived at the hospital where they allowed her to see Grandma Cielo.
"HELLO GRANDMA. Artica greeted her, giving her a kiss as she saw her awake."HOW ARE YOU?."She asked."
"Fine (She answers with a weak voice)."Where did you stay? Did you eat?."She asked, worried."
"MA'AM I AM LETICIA... YOUR GRANDDAUGHTER STAYED IN OUR HOUSE... MY HUSBAND RESCUED THEM... YOU SHOULDN'T WORRY... WHAT MATTERS IS THAT YOU GET BETTER. Mrs." Leticia said, introducing herself.
"I'm glad to hear that. She replies, panting."
"AH... THEY ARE HELPING ME TO FIND MY PARENTS. Artica tells her excitedly."
"I'm happy, you'll finally be able to be with your parents. She replies barely."
"FAMILY OF GRANDMA CIELO. The doctor who was treating her appeared."
"BY SPECIAL REQUEST OF MR. GUTIERREZ WE ARE ATTENDING HER... I UNDERSTAND YOU LIVED IN THE COUNTRYSIDE... AWAY FROM ALL CIVILIZATION. The doctor comments."
"YES... THAT'S RIGHT. Artica replies, the doctor rubs his forehead and sighs before speaking."
"YOUR GRANDMOTHER... IS ALREADY VERY OLD... SO HEART ATTACKS CAN BE COMMON CURRENCY... THEY BROUGHT HER IN TIME... WE MANAGED TO STABILIZE HER... BUT IT'S POSSIBLE THAT SHE WILL SUFFER... ANOTHER ATTACK... HER JOINTS ARE WEAK... IT SEEMS THAT SHE DIDN'T CONSUME CERTAIN NECESSARY FOODS. The doctor tells her."
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN DOCTOR?. Artica asks worried and her grandmother tells them."
"Doctor... Leave me alone with my granddaughter. She asks, so he nods and they leave."
"WHAT'S WRONG GRANDMA?. Artica asks worried."
"My cub... You're big... I taught you everything to survive... And I'm happy that you can find your family... It seems that they are kind people... Keep in mind what I always taught you... Humans are fearful in themselves... Keep your inner being calm. The grandmother said, pointing to her chest and Artica understood, what she meant by her wolf, she looked at her puzzled and then, understanding that she was saying goodbye, took a breath with a broken voice, she replies."
"NO, don't leave me... You are strong. And she sees her grandmother shaking her head."
"My time has come (Tears began to sprout from Artica)."
"NO... I DON'T WANT TO. She says crying, clinging to her hand."
"I was very happy with your company... You gave me the joy, these years, of feeling what it is to have a family... I hope you will be too... And you will be able to find your parents... Don't forget... You are special... Only you can give yourself the value you deserve. The grandmother concludes, Artica lay down next to her, hugging her."
"DOCTOR... SURE YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING. Leticia asks sorrowfully as she sees Artica so sad."
"THE GRANDMOTHER... IS VERY OLD... WE CALCULATE SHE IS MORE THAN A HUNDRED YEARS OLD... THE TRUTH... IT'S A LOT... I CALCULATE THAT FOR BEING FAR FROM THE CITY... HER LIFE WAS LONGER... HER GRANDDAUGHTER HAS THE APPEARANCE OF BEING VERY YOUNG... BUT ACCORDING TO WHAT SHE TOLD ME SHE IS SIXTEEN... MAKE THE COMPARISON... THE YOUNG WOMEN OF HER AGE SEEM TO BE TWENTY... BUT SHE HAS A FRESH AND SINGULAR APPEARANCE... WE WILL GIVE HER THE NECESSARY ATTENTION... ONLY SO THAT SHE DOES NOT SUFFER WHEN SHE LEAVES. The doctor says, twisting his mouth, he did not like to give those news, but it was part of his work."
"WELL DOCTOR. Mrs." Leticia replied and approached Artica, caressing her hair. "I SUPPOSE YOU WANT TO STAY... I'LL GO HOME... I'LL TELL THE DOCTOR... THEN I'LL COME BACK TO BRING YOU SOMETHING TO EAT. She warned her and Artica nodded."
Mrs. Leticia left the hospital with her little one and called her husband to inform him of what had happened.
CALL
📱Aldo... Love. (Sigh before continuing)... Artica's grandmother... May not survive. She tells him and bites her lip holding back from crying.
📱Oh... It's regrettable... She's very old... You can expect that... How is Artica?. He asks worried.
📱How do you think?... She's devastated... She's going to stay with her grandmother... I told the doctor that she was staying. Leticia tells her husband.
📱Well... I was inquiring about her parents... According to what they told me, that area had been covered by water... So they would review the files where the families that survived were transferred... The number that he gave me... Is out of line. The man comments sadly, sighing heavily.
📱Well... Keep investigating... I would like her to stay with us... It shows how good and innocent she is... I wouldn't want her to end up in those places that can harm her. Leticia tells her husband.
📱I agree with you... I'll make sure that's the way it is... We'll help her reunite with her parents. Mr. Gutierrez replies, swallowing hard, feeling sorry for the young woman who was losing her grandmother.
📱I'll go home... Then I'll bring her something to eat. She warns her husband before hanging up.
📱Good... See you. He says, hanging up the call.
"GUTIERREZ... HERE I FOUND SOME REPORTS... TAKE A LOOK... THEY TALK ABOUT A FAMILY LOOKING FOR THEIR DAUGHTER... WHO HAD BEEN LOST ON AN EXCURSION... IT WAS BEFORE THE FLOOD FORCED THEM TO LEAVE THAT PLACE... IT COINCIDES WITH THE TIME YOU TOLD US. His partner tells him, showing him some old headlines on the computer."
"YES ... LET ME READ ... IN ONE OF THOSE ... GIVE A NUMBER WHERE TO LOCATE THEM. He says, reading the report."
(*IN THE HOSPITAL)
Artica was lying next to her grandmother and a nurse approached, asking her to leave.
"GO OUT FOR A MOMENT... WE'LL CHANGE THE SHEETS... YOU CAN GO TO THE WAITING ROOM... IF YOU WANT THERE IS COFFEE AND WATER OR JUICE FOR YOU TO DRINK. She says, Artica nodded dejectedly."
"I don't drink coffee", she thought, heading where they indicated.
She sat on a bench, supporting her face in her hands when she sees them running in, transferring a patient who arrived on a stretcher, apparently it was serious and a woman who was crying disconsolately.
"PLEASE WAIT. The doctors told her, making her stay."
The woman, crying, took her cell phone and made a call. Artica watched everything that was happening, trying in some way to distract herself.
📱SON... WE HAD AN ACCIDENT... YOUR FATHER NEEDS... BLOOD DONATION. She says between sobs.
📱YOU HAVE TO GET... I CAN'T... I'VE BEEN DRINKING WITH MY FRIENDS. It is heard from the other side that responded.
📱DAMNATION RODRIGO... YOUR FATHER ALREADY NEEDS IT. She scolds him nervously.
📱THE HOSPITAL BANK USUALLY HAS IT... LET THEM GIVE HIM AND WE REPLACE WHEN WE FIND THE DONORS. He replies flustered.
📱THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THAT TYPE... IT'S DIFFICULT TO GET... THAT'S WHY I CALLED YOU AS HIS SON. She says between sobs.
Artica, seeing the woman's affliction, got up and approached her.
"EXCUSE ME... I am universal... If it helps him... She says with a broken voice, the woman looks up and drops her cell phone when she sees Artica standing before her, she had not noticed her presence, she was shocked to find her eyes."
📱MOTHER... MOTHER... ARE YOU OKAY?. It was heard from the cell phone on the floor, Artica bent down and handed it to the lady.
"YOU ARE... YOU ARE AN ANGEL. She says hesitantly nervous, Artica shook her head. The woman, without responding to her son's continuous insistence from the other side, hung up the phone."
"MA'AM... IF WE DON'T DO THE TRANSFUSION YOUR HUSBAND DOESN'T SURVIVE. The doctor appeared before them."
"HERE THE MISS SAYS... THAT SHE IS UNIVERSAL. She says, pointing to Artica."
"WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE. The doctor asked her."
"MMMM... MILK... FOUR HOURS AGO. She comments with a broken voice."
"I'll have to test her to donate urgently", the doctor thought.
"YES... COME WITH ME. The doctor says and the woman accompanies her."
"ARTICA... YOU CAN GO BACK TO YOUR GRANDMOTHER. The doctor who was attending her appears to warn her."
"GUSTAVO ...DO YOU KNOW HER?...DO YOU KNOW IF SHE CAN DONATE BLOOD?... I WAS ABOUT TO DO THE TESTS... BUT TIME IS PRESSING. The doctor who was carrying her asks him."
"YES... SHE IS VERY WELL... SHE WAS TESTED YESTERDAY. He replies."
"I'LL TAKE HER FOR A MOMENT. He says more relaxed to know that she could donate without problems."
They arrived where they had the old man connected to several devices, while some doctors healed the wounds he had suffered. Seeing that, Artica observed with curiosity, blood did not impress her, she was used to it from the times she hunted animals to survive with her grandmother.
