Irresistible Mate
Luna's Story
Luna Verlac was happy with her parents. They loved her, took care of her, and protected her. She was spoiled as an only child and always saw her father as her hero and her mother as her best friend. Both were passionate about the Moon and the stars and took her camping every weekend. Luna, even though she was so young, knew the name of all the constellations in the sky. They lived in the city but loved nature. Luna was different from the other children; she had white hair like the Moon and blue eyes like the sky. Her skin was very fair, and because she was so different, she suffered bullying from the children in schools, but she never cared. Her parents thought she was beautiful, and for her, the only opinion that really mattered was theirs. But not everything is so perfect...
At the age of 8, she saw her world crumble before her eyes. She didn't have many memories of how it all happened; she just remembered her father fighting some men while her mother hid her in a closet. Through the crack in the door, she could see her parents being killed horribly. She cried silently, remembering her mother's words:
"Honey, no matter what happens, don't make a sound and don't come out of here, okay?"
Luna: "I... I'm... Scared, Mommy"
"Don't be, my love. Just promise me you'll do what I asked."
She remembers promising and receiving her mother's last hug and her closing the doors while she said:
"I love you, my Moon, I will always be with you no matter what happens."
Luna remembered the story her mother told her about why she had chosen that name for her daughter, and she always said: "My love, you were born on a full moon night. Mommy and Daddy were camping, there was no time to go to the hospital and you were born right there; nature and the Moon witnessed the happiest day of our lives. We were near a waterfall, the Moon illuminated us with its light and had its image reflected in the waters. As soon as we heard your cry, the Moon shone like never before; it blessed you, my little one, that's why your name is Luna, because you were not only blessed by the Moon goddess but also chosen by her.”
Luna mourned the loss of her parents for years. Her aunt, Daiana, had raised her ever since as if she were her own daughter. But even so, Luna felt the void in her chest; she blamed herself for her parents' death. Why did they have to die protecting her?
She was haunted by nightmares every night, with the few memories of her parents being murdered and their screams trying to save themselves while protecting her with their own lives.
And one more night, Luna wakes up screaming desperately in her room after remembering everything that happened that day.
Luna: "NOOOOOO"
She looks from side to side scared, and her aunt opens the door, already knowing what had left her in that state, runs to her, and hugs her.
Daiana: "It's okay, honey, I'm here."
Luna hugs her, crying; her body was sweaty, her hands were shaking, and her breathing was ragged.
Luna: "Why, Auntie? Why did they have to die? Why?"
Daiana: "I know, my love, I know it's difficult, but... Life is cruel sometimes."
Luna: "It's all my fault."
Daiana: "I've already asked you not to think about that anymore, my dear. Your parents loved you; they wanted you to have a chance to grow up, to live, to know how beautiful life is, to be happy; none of that was your fault."
Luna: "Life is beautiful? No, it's not because it gave me a family just to take them away from me later. Life is cruel; it's unfair."
Daiana: "I know it's difficult, Luna, but they wouldn't like to see you like this. Tomorrow you start work, my girl, you finally got what you always wanted; you're going to make a living from music, so cheer up and get some rest."
Luna: "I love you so much; you've always been by my side, taking care of me as if I were your daughter."
Daiana: "I love you; you are the daughter I never had and will always be my greatest pride."
