Mad Dog and Loud Mouth

No One's POV

It was well into the first hour of the day, and the hallway was empty besides Maddox leaning against a wall while chewing some gum. His curly brown hair still damp from his shower and hanging over his eyes. He had just arrived at the school, and was already debating leaving.

"Shouldn't you be in class or something?" The security guard, Mr. Clarke asked.

"Yeah, and?" He responded.

"Well why aren't you?"

"Do you really care?"

"Not really, but if you're going to skip don't do it around me. I don't want to get in trouble."

"Sure,whatever." The teen pushed himself off the wall and prepared to turn in the opposite direction.

"Wait." The security guard said while shuffling through his handful of colorful passes. "Figure out who this is and give it to them. We're low on pass runners this morning" he said while handing two purple slips to Maddox. The male took the slip and read the name "Maddox Smith".

"This one has my name on it though."

"Really? How convenient, less work for me then." The guard said has he walked away. A purple slip. That meant the principal's office. "Just great" the male thought. He stood there thinking for a bit before deciding to continue his stroll in the opposite direction of Mr. Clarke and the principal's office. His stroll took him to the cafeteria where a power writing class was being held. Dark eyes scanning the group of students most of which still half asleep. Once he spotted who he was looking for he walked over and slid into the seat next to him. The teacher didn't say anything though probably out of surprise the the male was actually at school.

"This is for you I guess." Maddox stated. Handing the purple pass over without looking.

"Principal's office, but I didn't do anything yet? I literally just got here." The other male said slightly confused. His clear voice echoing through the near empty cafeteria.

"U.J. please refrain from disrupting class this early in the day." The teacher scolded.

"Sorry Mrs. Huber." The male replied.

"Don't ask me. I got one too." Maddox shrugged while looking off into the distance.

"So....are we going then?"

"Hell no. You can go if you want to. I'm on my last life. If I slip up one more time then they're dropping me." Maddox explained while getting up and heading towards the exit.

"But doesn't ignoring this pass count as a slip up?" His friend reasoned while packing up his material.

Maddox waited for his friend to reach him at the door before continuing to walk.

"You know, I guess you kinda have a point." He admitted.

"Of course I do. This is why we're friends. I'm the brains and you're the brawn." U.J. mused.

"You say you're the brains yet you're GPA says otherwise." Maddox countered.

U.J. stopped walking for a second before doubling over in laughter. The clear sound echoing through the empty hallways and piercing Maddox's ears, but in a good way. He loved the sound of U.J.'s laughter. Loud and carefree just like him.It was one of the main reasons he came to school. The laughter eventually subsided, as U.J. returned to standing upright.

"I guess you're right about that," He agreed. "But you never answered my question."

"What question?" Maddox asked.

"Are we going or not? Because I don't want to deal with Frost this early in the morning by myself." U.J. said while looking up slightly at his friend.

"Yeah, I guess we can go,and see what it's about. It's probably another detention or something." U.J. shook his head in agreement.

Eventually the two males walked into the office area and navigated easily through the corridors. Due to having walked this path many times before stopping at a door that had the word Frost written on it in gold letters.

"If I knew I was going to be seeing him this early. I would have came to school high." Maddox announced. U.J. chuckled. Before shoving the door open and shouting, "Frosty! I heard you wanted to see us!"
