Echo 619

What is perfection?

It can be interpreted as invisibility; having no flaws, white in a world filled with shades of black. The end of evolution because perfection has no other stages. It can be considered immortality; the gift of time, having all things work according to how you see fit.

Perfection is the end result of hard work, gifted to some as a reward for their efforts.

Perfection is intangible. Perfection should be unattainable. Perfection breeds chaos, a mirage of accomplishments blinding us from the bitter truth. Perfection is an illusion.

Perfection is chaos.

But that ideology of perfection, without the flaws that we imperfect  creatures created, was equally flawed.

The Perfection they sought after, without the flaws, made it even more 'imperfect'.

What truly is perfection?

In a quest for perfection, ranging from perfect cars to perfect anthropomorphic androids, humanity soon began to strive for something even better, something unattainable; perfect humans.

In the year 2030, the battle against global warming soon began on a global scale. Humanity united to battle a common foe. Once the war was won, humanity drifted back into her old ways. Nations became selfish, the quest for wealth soon drove nations into massacres as the strong devoured the weak, a survival of the fittest in the rotten world.

In the decade that followed after, a series of chain events led to what would soon be known as the third world war. The first instance was the breach of contracts between importing and exporting countries. This led to the fall of international organizations.

The next instance was the breach in security in various countries by opposing nations. The final instance was the mass genocide of Asians during the World Exposition which took place in Thailand.

In the year 2045, a world war began, one that was felt on a global scale, like never before. Humanity was reduced to nothing but a war zone, with the blood of billions spilled for the selfishness of a few.

In the chaos of it all, a silver lining was revealed. Two Asian countries that otherwise remained dormant throughout the war- Japan and China- merged together to form an indomitable force. They offered a taste of victory,

Super humans.

At first, it was nothing more than a fantasy, one we would tell our children in order to feed into their insatiable cravings for heroes in capes. But soon enough, this fantasy became a reality.

A new era of Super humans was enacted. Nations soon fell under this powerful force, and in a span of two years, they took over the world. The war was long forgotten as Nations scrambled to get another taste of the power this new nation offered, even if it meant selling what was most important in the process.

In the year 2051, Illume Tech was formed. It launched the project that solidified their dominance in the world.

Enhancing Cognitive Human Operations, in other words, Project E.C.H.O

Millions were offered as test subjects for this new project, primarily soldiers, veterans of war from the post-climatic war lands.

Even with firm opposition from the once great World Health Organization, a virus was created, a virus which sought to conquer the human race.

Hexagon.

The virus was made in order to create super humans that the new nation could control.

Hexagon is a virus that enhances abilities. Speed, vision, sense of smell, acute thinking and so on, these were enhanced to the very maximum. The downside of the virus was the rapid loss of taste and the loss of blood.

The virus preys on the blood of the host, rapidly decreasing it in order to survive. In order to replenish the lost blood, the host has to ingest blood that matches their blood type.

Retractable razor sharp canines were special add-ons in order to seal their haunting appearances, ounces of venom trapped within them to ensure lethal and immediate death to whoever comes in contact with the factory made poison, paired with eyes stained with red pigmentation– signifying that they were the properties of Illume Tech.

The mortality rate was unexpected, out of the millions of people offered up as test subjects, only seven hundred survived. The deaths were as a result of either tremors caused by the virus, or psychological trauma, in most cases they were killed once the organization saw them as liabilities.

Simply put, it was hell in the making, with creatures from our once forgotten nightmares roaming the post apocalyptic earth.

Twenty six years later, the nation had dominated practically every corner of the world, forcing world leaders to accept the new regime or face a fate more gruesome than death.

A nation built on the blood and exploitation of humans, that was what our world became, with leaders with no value of humanity as the ones calling the shots.

The vast greenery lulled Micah into a peaceful state as he leaned onto the rails of his balcony. The sun had began to set, indicating the end of another stress filled day. The land seemed to stretch on for miles, giving Micah a much needed escape from the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city.

Everything was artificial, from the green grass covering the earth, to the water he drank. Soon, the blazing hot sun would join the list.

The day couldn't get any better, that is until the ringing of his holochip ruined the serene mood.

"What?" He snapped once the holographic projection came up.

"We waited for you at the meeting," were the first words his father spoke to him in months.

As the owner of one of the most lucrative companies, his father rarely had time for anything other than work.

Halo Corporation was a company created as a result of his father's obsession with perfection. The company strived to create an antidote to ageing, pursuing the goal of eternal youth.

Micah's father was a man of many accolades, from his breakthrough discoveries in the field of neurology, to his intricate understanding of the human anatomy. What his father lacked in morality, he made up for in knowledge.

Halo Corporation had a long lasting partnership with Illume Tech, aiding them in various projects, the latest being Project ECHO.

"I had other plans" he replied curtly, hoping to end the conversation immediately.

"You need to get yourself acquainted with the operations in the company. In case you forgot, you are going to take over when I step down" his father said, never failing to remind Micah of the weight that came with bearing the title of his father's heir.

"Learn to take responsibility. You're twenty three years old for crying out loud! You can't keep running away from this. I expect to see you here tomorrow" his father said, ending the projected call.

Micah ran a hand through his unruly curls as he let out a sigh. He pondered his life choices as the wind fanned him, almost as if trying to cool his nerves.

Micah never had any interest in taking over the company. He never bothered to go to the daunting buildings, and never concerned himself with whatever they did, leaving all the work to his father.

Micah enjoyed creating things he wanted to create. He enjoyed letting his inspiration flow at his own terms. He sought to give life to androids, to make them feel. His father frowned upon his passion for creation, for it went against the plans he had for his son. He was nothing more than a puppet to his father, one who had to be shaped into someone worthy of continuing his father's legacy.

Micah wanted something different, something other than what was expected of him. Joining his father's business would limit his creative passion, he feared.

He passion and the expectations of his father were two vastly different things, and he chose to stay away from the line blurring the two together. He had long given up on pleasing his father, but how could he let down the man who he looked up to? How could he ever be free when he felt trapped? Confined to the birthright forced onto him, much to his disapprobation.

He sighed once again as he made his way inside his glass designed house, dreading the unavoidable meeting he was doomed to attend.

Talk about dramatic.
