Result day

The most treacherous day in every student's life is the 'Day of Results.'

On this day, every student invokes the divine, this day reminds us of a spring evening shrouded in darkness.

The day of reckoning, the day of results...

"Don't worry, my child, I've complete faith in you... Everything will be fine."

My mother gently stroked my head, trying to reassure me. As I entered school, my forehead beaded with sweat on this crucial day of results. However, instead of instilling confidence, her unwavering belief in me seemed to exacerbate my anxiety.

All the students and their parents were already seated in the classroom, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the class teacher.

"Namaste, Mrs. Sen, please have a seat here. I'm Kiran's mother," Kiran's mother gestured for my mother to sit beside her, saying, "I heard your daughter joined the school a bit late!"

"Namaste," my mother greeted with a smile as she sat down. "Yes, her father was suddenly transferred, so we had to admit her here," she explained.

"Is Arya good at studying?" Kiran's mother inquired, turning her gaze towards me with a smile, then she began praising Kiran, "I'm worried about Kiran. She studies day and night... She always ranks in the top five in her class."

"Wow! Kiran is really intelligent. Arya is more into art and video games," my mother said teasingly. "I wish Arya was as smart as Kiran."

After a while, the class teacher arrived and started announcing the marks. My hands turned cold with anticipation.

"Let's give a round of applause for Kiran," the teacher said, looking at Kiran. "She secured the 3rd rank." Kiran's mother clapped with joy.

"Let's give a round of applause for Sameer too; he achieved the 2nd rank," the teacher continued.

And now, building up suspense, she announced the name of the topper, "And now, a thunderous round of applause for the class topper, Arya Sen." The teacher looked at me, but I couldn't believe my ears.

My mother, who had been teasing me a little while ago, now began praising me in front of the class teacher.

Now we had entered the 6th grade, and it was time for section rearrangement - Section A for the 'topper students' and Section B for the 'weak students.' Toppers and weak students already knew their fate, but average students were in a state of confusion.

All the 6th-grade students were standing in the corridor as the teacher announcing the section for students.

Standing behind us, Drishya taunted Sameer while asking, "Who came first in your section this time?" Hearing Drishya's voice, my ears perked up with interest.

"Arya..." Sameer told him with a hint of disappointment in his voice.

"Oh, the 'late admission' girl!" he remarked, and I retorted, annoyed, "My name is Arya Sen, not 'late admission'."

"Alright! And my name is Drishya Mittal," he replied with a smile.

Seeing his smile, I felt a pang of shame for my earlier rudeness. I straightened my posture without saying a word.

"By the way, Arya, how many marks did you get in mathematics?" he asked, and this time I responded calmly, "86."

"Only 86? I scored 92 , the highest in the class," he started showing off again.

I got angry, so I asked him about his overall percentage. He handed me a candy, smilingly, "Here, have some candy. What will you do knowing my percentage?"

His childish antics sometimes irritated me and sometimes left me in awe.

And now, we were in the same section too.....
