Episode 10

Some bystanders notice the scene and warn neither of the two to move. With each motion or even attempt by Luiza to speak, the ice sheet cracked even more.

Man - Don't move!

A woman approaches, curious, and gasps, for the lake in that area was exceptionally deep.

Man - We need to find a rope, fast!

Another man says he has a rope in his truck and bolts to get it immediately.

Ryan, with frightened eyes, stares without even blinking, but fear causes him to start backing away very slowly.

Man - Don't move, dude!

Luiza looks at him as if she's already certain that Ryan won't help her.

Ryan - I... I can't!

With another step back, he further splinters the ice. The onlookers start to panic, wanting to help, but survival instincts stop them from going further.

Another step back, and Luiza's eyes widen in expectation of the worst.

Luiza - No, please!

A lone tear rolls down Ryan's face, and he runs off the ice as fast as he can, leaving her behind. The ice breaks apart, and Luiza falls into the freezing lake.

People begin to scream, and Ryan just runs away from the area. Due to the commotion, Allan, further ahead, ends his call, grabs his daughter, and runs toward the scene to find out what's happening.

Luiza sinks down into the dark lake, with no clear vision other than the sub-zero water leaving her with almost no breath, feeling as if hundreds of needles were stabbing into her body.

With no vision, she swims upward, colliding with the ice. She pushes with both hands trying to break through, but she can't; she's completely disoriented and can't think in the situation.

Allan - What happened?

Man - A girl fell in the water!

He immediately hands his daughter to an acquaintance nearby, and the man with the rope arrives, running. Allan takes it and ties it around his waist.

Allan - Back up!

He spreads his arms asking for space since he doesn't want anyone else to fall. The action feels like an eternity but is just over fifty seconds in duration.

Allan - Hold the rope!

Man - Here's a flashlight!

Allan - It'll help!

Prepared for such a scenario, Allan had trained with the coast guard to dive into icy water. As he strides across the frozen lake, he looks around for direction and spots Luiza below, struggling to get out. Their eyes meet, and without a second thought, Allan jumps in.

Luiza, losing her breath, pounds the ice with all her might, swallows water, starts choking, and her motions begin to freeze up as she starts to sink into the lake's darkness.

It feels like she descends in slow motion, her body going limp. Allan reaches her, wraps his arms around her, and propels them to the surface as quickly as possible.

Reaching the top, the men help by pulling Luiza from the water, and immediately after, Allan, not wasting time, begins administering first aid.

Woman - My God, is she dead?

He begins chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation repeatedly but to no avail. With passing time, he grows more distressed but doesn't stop.

Judy - The stranger!

The girl in the neighbor's arms points with teary eyes.

Judy - She's dead!

Woman - No, sweetheart!

She tries to keep the child back from the scene.

Meanwhile, Allan continues the abdominal compressions relentlessly.

Allan - Come on, lady, respond.

The intense cold he had subjected himself to causes steam to rise from his nostrils and mouth with every breath he takes.

Man - Poor girl, it was that guy who pushed her, I saw it!

People around begin to mourn.

Woman - Such a beautiful young lady.

With a few more chest compressions and breaths, Luiza expels all the swallowed water, coughing.

Woman - SHE'S ALIVE!

The woman exclaims, and everyone at the scene rejoices. At this moment, ambulance sirens wail throughout the square.

Allan - Easy, you'll be fine.

Luiza, still dazed and shivering, opens her eyes to her savior gazing intently into her eyes while supporting her neck to prevent her from choking on the water coming out of her mouth.

Allan - The ambulance is here; you'll be taken to the hospital and receive proper treatment, don't worry!

Drops of water from his damp hair fall on her face.

Judy - Daddy?

The little girl yells from the woman's arms. He looks at her, smiling, transmitting a sense of security. The medics rush with a stretcher from the ambulance toward the commotion.

He turns back to Luiza and frowns as he touches the cut on her lips that bled from Ryan's punch, not knowing yet what caused her fall into the icy water.

Paramedic - Did you save her, Allan?

He nods and stands up, letting them work. Allan is known to everyone, not just for the tragic accident involving his wife but also for his occasional heroic deeds with the coast guard making news.

Allan picks up Judy from the acquaintance, and the girl can't stop looking at Luiza.

Judy - Daddy...

Allan - It's alright, my love!

Judy - It's the stranger!

She comments, and he looks at her and smiles.

Judy - Is she hurty?

Allan - Yes, darling! The stranger is hurty.

He sighs in relief again as he watches the paramedics take her to the ambulance, which then departs for the hospital.

Allan - I'm going to take you to your grandma's, sweetie!

Judy - My ball?

They look around but can't find the pink ball.

Allan - I'll buy you another one later!
