Ava
We were in my grandfather's study, my father, my mother, Klaus, and I. I wasn't sure if I could hide my nerves, not only in front of this situation but also in his presence. That man had something that made my skin crawl just by listening to his voice.
I tried to talk to my wolf, Zoe, but as always, there was only silence. After the accident years ago, she simply didn't speak to me again. Sometimes I feel her, I know she's there, I can perceive her anger, her sadness, but for some reason, she doesn't want to talk to me. I know she's angry, but I need her, and I miss her so much.
I was in my own bubble of thought until I heard my grandfather speak to me.
Elder: Ava, are you okay? I'm asking you what decision you've made. I don't want to pressure you, my dear, but if we're going to do this, we have to talk about what's going to be done and try to agree about your duties and responsibilities.
Ava: I'm sorry, Grandpa, I was thinking, and I wasn't even paying attention. I understand the situation. Don't worry. I said I would do it, and you know I don't go back on my word.
Klaus: Well, first of all, since we both agree, I would like to know why her. I want to know what you're up to, old man, by choosing your granddaughter.
Elder: What am I up to? Hahaha, young King, you don't change. You've always been like this since I met you, and I'm not up to anything, son. I've known you since you were a boy, I appreciate you, and I love you as if you were my own blood. I would never wish you any harm, neither of you. I simply know you and your stories. I know this is difficult for both of you.
Klaus: It is, but we've already made the decision, so what do we have to do?
Ava: Before we continue, I want to make a few things clear.
Elder: Speak.
Ava: You just said, if the ritual you are referring to works, what are the chances that it won't work?
Elder: The ritual is not very common because not everyone knows it exists, and those who have performed it have not been successful.
Ava: So you're saying it's something that doesn't even work? (I say to my grandfather angrily, I don't understand what his game is, if he's saying that it hasn't worked with anyone, why does he want us to do it?)
Elder: Let me tell you a story that has been passed down from generation to generation in this family.
An Alpha who lost his Luna and a Luna who lost her Alpha, they were friends who had known each other since they were very young. They were always seen as the four of them together, sharing. They were at a party when they were attacked by vampires.
The Alphas went to the front to fight, their Lunas to take refuge in their people. That day was chaos, when they managed to defeat the vampires, there were many wounded and dead on our side, including one of the Alphas and one of the Lunas.
Leaving their two friends alone, the Alpha became hard and expressionless. His only purpose was revenge, and he dedicated himself only to killing vampires, rogues, or whatever got in his way, and the sad and melancholic Luna fell into depression, and it seemed that she no longer wanted to live.
The families of both, seeing them in these conditions, begged the Goddess to help them. They didn't want to continue witnessing how the two of them suffered and self-destructed.
One day, a woman appeared, a gypsy. She went to the Luna's family and told them that if they wanted her to survive, they needed her friend, the Alpha, that they both needed each other and that only together would they overcome their grief.
When they finally saw each other after all those months that had passed, they only hugged and comforted each other. They both understood their pain and their loneliness, and with the passing of time, they were overcoming their loss together.
As the years went by, the problem arose, what were they going to do with their packs? They had no children, and they could not have them without their partners. Both had a responsibility to see for their people, and they did not know what to do. The Luna decided that if something happened to her and she did not find anyone to take the Alpha's place, her pack would join her friend's. As for the Alpha, it seemed that a distant relative could inherit from him.
She decided to accompany him on his journey to meet the Alpha candidate, but they had no luck. He could not take care of the pack, so they returned home. On their way back, they met a gypsy, a very beautiful woman with white hair and blue eyes, and she told them that she had the solution to their problems.
She told them about the ritual, and although with doubts, they decided that maybe it was for the best. I'm not saying it was easy for them, they didn't have that kind of affection, but the gypsy assured them that it would work, so they didn't think about it too much and did what the woman told them. A month after returning to the pack, she was pregnant.
Ava: And what does that have to do with us? That story is not proof that the ritual is going to work with us.
Elder: After the pregnancy was announced, the Alpha and the Luna married to give a home to that pup, and they united their packs. That's how the Storm Pack was born.
Ava: Are you saying that they were our ancestors?
Elder: That's right, girl. I don't know if it's going to work, but I have faith in the Goddess, and we have nothing to lose by trying.
Klaus: You're right. I agree. So the question would be when we would carry it out.
Ava: Okay, but I have a condition.
Klaus: Condition? (Too good to be true. It seems the little teacher is going to get her claws out from the start.)
Ava: Yes. I know that you, Your Highness, have a partner, and I don't know what plans you have, nor am I interested. My only condition is that I will take care of the baby. I will not allow anyone to take me away from him. I will take care of protecting and caring for him, of educating him, and I promise he will be a worthy heir and future King. But I also want him to grow up surrounded by love and care, and I'm sure you know that's the best thing.
Klaus: (I was surprised by what she said, and I felt even proud of her words. This woman would have been a wonderful Queen. Goddess, why didn't you destine her to be my partner? I'm sure I would have been the happiest man on the face of the earth.) I agree, but I also want to be a part of his life. After all, it would be the responsibility of both of us, don't you think?
Ava: Of course. Very well. As for your wife, I don't know her, and I don't want her to decide about the baby. You must understand that this only concerns the two of us.
Klaus: I totally agree. You have my word. As for this whole matter, you know it's a delicate matter. Being who I am, I have enemies who would not hesitate to harm you to get what they want, so I would like this matter to be kept secret for as long as possible.
Elder: No problem. Your words are true, and it's for the best. So only those of us in this room, the council, and I assume your parents will know.
Klaus: Not my parents, just my Beta. He arrives in a few days, and I'll explain everything to him.
He doesn't want his parents to know about me or his wife. It's logical, and yet I can't help but feel a pang in my heart. I have to keep my emotions out of this. This is just a deal, a mere formality to achieve an end. He means nothing to me, nor do I to him.
Elder: If there are no further questions or clarifications, it is best to start making preparations. Regarding the chosen day, it has to be on a full moon, and since we will have one in 3 weeks, we don't have much time. The place and everything else, I'll take care of.
Klaus: If there is nothing else, then I will take my leave. I still have work to do. As for all this, communicate directly with me or Ryan.
And so went the King and the grandfather. My parents stayed behind chatting, and I went up to my room to take a bath and try to get some rest. This whole thing was too overwhelming and stressful, and as for Grandpa, I have a suspicion he didn't tell us everything, but I trust him. I know he would never hurt me.
In the study...
Arthur: Dad, is there something else you haven't told us?
Elder: It's just that I didn't want to say it in front of them, but there is something else.
Mary: What is it, father-in-law? It's not something bad, is it?
Elder: It's not that it's bad, but it worries me a little. It's about the end of the story.
The Alpha and the Luna, after going through the ritual, their feelings began to change. They loved each other so much that their love was a light not only for them but also for their people. Their son was born and grew up with the blessing of the moon, and he brought prosperity and peace to the pack.
Arthur: And if you think something like that can happen, why did you suggest it? He has a partner, Dad, and if they fall in love, what's going to happen? My little girl is going to suffer.
Elder: A few weeks ago, I had a dream. A very beautiful woman with white hair and blue eyes told me that if I want her to survive, I had to unite her with him, with her best friend, that they needed each other and together they would overcome their problems.
Arthur: What are you talking about, Dad? Are you serious, a dream? And what friends are you talking about? They just met.
Elder: They met as children. They were about 10 years old. One day, when I took Ava with me, they saw each other and played all day. They even promised to be best friends forever, but they didn't see each other again after that day.
But those two fools don't even remember. The point is, the gypsy said that no matter what happens, they will have each other, for better or for worse.
