The beginning

Gretera was born in the family of highborn witches. They were the most powerful witches in the entire realm. She was the youngest amongst three other children but she was the only daughter of Olympia and Sophie. She received love from every member in the family. Her beauty was as bright as the moonlight. Her eyes were a mix of blue and green , blending to form the perfect colour. The most distinguishing feature of her was her smile. Her smile melted the hearts of gentlemen. Everything about her was just perfect except one thing. She was unpredictable. One moment she used to jump from delight the next she turned dark and serious.

This was a matter of concern for her parents. Her mother tried every spell to change her. Gretera didn't like this. Everyone treated her like a patient. They used to pray for her. She didn't want this. She was normal. Whenever she went out, her brother's would send shadows behind her. They were not for her protection but to protect others.

Time passed by…. Now she was 15, she went to the school of magical something. Every year when the batches of students reached their last grade, a competition was held for the staff of knull. It was Gretera's last grade in the school. She was all set for the competition but the board and her family decided she was not "eligible" for it . They told her that the rules said a girl couldn't bear those powers. Deep down, she knew the truth: they considered her " too dangerous ". She just sat out and watched others living their life. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She thought to herself what was wrong with her. How could she fix herself? She heard rumours that there was a tree in the middle of corx. Corx was the place where the competition was held. She knew that if she wanted to fix herself she needed to enter this competition. But How?

A thought came to her mind. Magic. She was a powerful witch. She also remembered the disguise spell they were taught for situations like this. She performed the spell and turned herself into a boy. She was very careful. This feeling was new to her. She just followed other boys. She entered the lane that led to the competition. She just waited for the right time.

She entered the Corx, her eyes shone with excitement and pride. She did it. The magic wore off. The place was full of powers so any external spells didn't work there. As the disguise wore off, the crowd was amazed to see a girl. Her parents were shocked. This was not what they wanted. The prophecy was coming true : " Only the girl who can fool a mass of thousand , who is hollow from inside, can bear the power of the knull. Only she will show the world the power of hatred".

Gretera reached the centre in no time. These challenges were nothing against her. She reached the tree with the question in her mind. She poured water on the tree. This was a part of ancient witchcraft. It made the non living the living, trees were considered dead in the realm. She asked the question " What am I? Why does everyone think I'm sick? I know I am different. Help me find myself".

The ancient tree woke up and replied" Gretera the Great, you are not different, you are just above the understanding of the people"

" Complete the competition, you will find yourself. But don't the light die. The path ahead is dark. Choose carefully "

Gretera was confused. The whole path ahead of her was bright. She could see it. The spell wore off. The tree was silent. She decided to move further.

" The path ahead of me is clear as moonlight, then what did the old tree mean".

Meanwhile Gretera was confused , the contest was still going on. Many contestants were already out. Some tried to cheat, some were eaten by the plants and some fell into the ground. It was only Gretera and Maz. Maz was also a highborn. He was gifted with looks and personality. Gretera liked him but he never paid attention to her. He was always surrounded by people and Gretera was not liked by everyone and his parents. Gretera was numb when she saw that she was standing in front of him. This was the first time their eyes met. She felt like falling into the universe so bright and clear. It was mesmerising. All she could see was the never ending blue ocean. Suddenly, she heard clapping, the people from outside were clapping. But why, as she averted her gaze she saw that was fooled. Maz used magic to charm and distract her but how could he. No one can use powers here. This was unfair. She felt the blood rushing through her cheeks. This was unfair. She was red. She couldn't bear the heat and she expelled the sudden rage that was forming inside of her. Maz was so close to the win when suddenly his legs stopped moving and his body felt heavy. It felt like the sun's radiation was passing through him. He couldn't bear the heat and fell onto the ground.

" Well you deserved it, cheater ", " and just so you know this was fun "

" Like really fun, Mazie" she said to the buy panting on the ground.

" This is my time and no one can take it away ",with this as she proceeded to take the staff, she stopped. " Wow! That was new, I never knew i had that in me " she thought to herself and grabbed the staff.

Suddenly, everything went black, and she felt as if she was going to black out. She blacked out..

( I..i remember Maz falling on the ground, he was in pain. The pain I caused him. How could I? I nearly killed him.. and i remember taking the staff but after that everything was black.. where am i? )

"Gretaa.. Greta wake up", " Are you alright"

She had no energy and even opening her eyes seemed impossible. She-
