Chapter 5: Qiao Qiao, What Exactly Have They Done To You?

Although Shen Xichuan was the head of the area next door, he appeared insignificant when compared with Lu Beixiao. The only reason he generously offered to help was to make Ye Qiao feel even more emotionally attached to him.

In fact, he was never a great help. On the contrary, she was the one who was always helping him. In the past, her identity as an illegitimate child often made people look down on her. Still, she had the support of her grandfather, who was an experienced instructor in the neighborhood. She was often cold-shouldered but was never harmed. Even Lu Beichi had to show her some respect.

“Shen Xichuan, I am telling the truth. It is Brother Beixiao who saved me!”

She then turned to look at Lu Beixiao, who was still quietly smoking and said, “Brother Beixiao, thank you for your help! I would have been scorched to death without you.”

Back then, Ye Qiao would have never talked to Lu Beixiao in such a friendly manner. All smiley, she looked at him with a heart full of gratitude and was truly happy to see him.

Li Yun and Shen Xichuan, once again, looked at Ye Qiao in disbelief because she had never been polite with Lu Beixiao. If anything, they thought she would have taken the opportunity to cause a scene and embarrass the Lu brothers in front of the crowd.

Lu Beixiao looked at the girl with a grin but said nothing.

Ye Qiao used to find Lu Beixiao’s habit of smoking very annoying. The smog always filled the room with a bad smell, and yet there she was, learning how to appreciate the man who smoked. There was a sense of familiarity, and even intimacy, in the smell of his burning cigarette.

Steadily, she looked at him in admiration and let her eyes linger on him for a while. “Brother Beixiao, I should be going home now,” she suddenly recalled.

Lu Beixiao gave her a gentle nod. He was actually getting confused by Ye Qiao’s change of attitude toward him.

“Li Yun, Shen Xichuan, I still feel a little dizzy, so I’d better go home now. You should leave too. Be careful when you climb the wall in the backyard. Don’t get caught by the patrol team,” Ye Qiao continued.

Even without the patrol team, Li Yun and Shen Xichuan would not be safe without Ye Qiao. The Lu boys would probably drown them in the pool before they even make it to the backyard.

Panicked, Li Yun, and Shen Xichuan quickly followed Ye Qiao as she left.

Ye Qiao quickened her steps down the stairs and hurriedly left the building.

Stepping out of the premises, she realized that the sun blazed like a ball of fire. Meanwhile, there was already a group of people outside, waiting to block Shen Xichuan and his boys from leaving. All of them had a brick in their hands, seemingly ready for a fight.

The presence of a pretty girl made the situation even more on edge.

Ye Qiao walked past the two groups of boys carefree, but the ones closer with Lu Beichi began to flirt, “Have we met before, pretty girl?” There was nothing particularly interesting about her outfit, braids, or her oversized t-shirt. But the boys were attracted to her pretty face and slender figure. In fact, they began to think that she was prettier than Ye Zhenzhen, who they used to think was the most beautiful.

Because she was dressed differently, the boys could not tell that the pretty girl was Ye Qiao, the number one whistle-blower of all time in the neighborhood. She was the clumsy girl that they all hated to the bones.

After Ye Qiao walked past them, they then blocked Li Yun from leaving. “Girl, the bumpkin from the Ye family is not here today, so there is no chance that you can leave in peace.”

They still could not tell that the bumpkin was actually the pretty girl who just walked past them.

“Qiao Qiao!” Li Yun called out her name.

At first, Li Yun was reluctant to let everyone know who the pretty girl was, but she needed Ye Qiao’s help to keep her safe under such intense circumstances.

Merely calling out her name made Cheng Dafei tremble a little. He was not afraid of the girl, but was worried that she would get them all into trouble.
