chapter 5

"... And that class is why you should always practice your basic martial arts, no matter how talented you are at controlling your True Energy or using weapons. Oh my! Look at the time! Geez, you kids should really stop me when I'm lecturing you guys. I might accidentally keep you from your other classes, and then your other teachers will be mad at me! And I'm really not ready to die yet." said Lin Quan with an exaggerated sigh, which got him a laugh from the entire class since every student there knew that any student that had him would automatically not have any other classes that day since his classes were notorious for running long because every student loved his class, even his lectures. "All right, class dismissed. And don't forget to read the rest of the chapter because I will be randomly asking questions about it in our next class."

Shao Lin decided to wait until everyone had left before approaching Lin Quan.

"Lin Quan, sir, can I talk to you?"

"Sure, what do you need?" says Lin Quan as he turns around. "Oh, your not one of my students. I normally don't help students outside of my classroom since I don't leave it that often but anyways what can I do for you? Need help with studying for a class or need me to get rid of a pesky poltergeist in your dorm room or need me to translate some scrap of paper with ancient runes on it? hmm?"

"Actually, I need you to help me with a little possession problem. My friend, Ying Nam, was born with a Dæmeon soul as well as her own soul and now she's hurt and the Dæmeon is waking up. I know how to put her back in control but I don't have enough power to do it and you're the only one who can help me." says Shao Lin.

"Well as I'm sure you know I can't help when it comes to Dæmeon possession although I am the teacher of the Demon Art's class." says Lin Quan looking scared and sad.

"Listen, Lin Quan, you're just a few years older than me and you were a whole lot stronger than how strong I am so I don't understand what it's like to be called the most promising of the nee generation and then get sent out on to a real mission with real dangers and it was even a high-level mission. But both you and I know that it's about more than that you couldn't save your teammates. You saw something out there that night, something that someone's making you keep quiet about. They told you not to save Ying Nam if something like this ever happened didn't they?" Said Shao Lin with a hint of anger in her eyes as Lin Quan looked around and then slightly nodded. "Well I have something that can help keep you safe from them but it will take a few weeks. And both you and I know that whoever it was won't dare to make a scene while you are in this school since the headmaster is here."

"Alright I'll help you but what is it that you could possibly make to keep me safe?" asked Lin Quan. Although he didn't feel as if Shao Lin was lying to him it never hurt to ask.

"That's a secret" said Shao Lin with a wink and raising her finger in front of her mouth. "We should get going if we're going to save Ying Nam. It feels like it's almost nightfall."

"Lead the way kid. By the way what's your name?" said Lin Quan.

"It's Shao Lin. And that's all you need to know right now. more running less talking."

....

A few minutes later back in the alchemy corridor.

"Shao Lin! There you are! We've been waiting for nearly two hours now. What took you so long and why is teacher Lin Quan with you?" asked Shin Lao looking a little panicked.

"Don't worry everything is going to be fine Shin Lao. Quin Li did you grab the book like I asked?" said Shao Lin calmly. Quin Li nodded then waved his hand and the book appeared in his hand, coming from a military family Quin Li was able to get a Spatial ring but it still took him nearly two years worth of allowance, the book looked almost exactly as Shao Lin described it but much more ancient looking and had an even greater mysterious Aura than any of them could imagine.

"Thank you Quin Li. You'll need this when you go inside there Lin Quan." said Shao Lin as she handed him the book. "And please remember it was never your fault and you will no longer need to be afraid of who ever threatened you once you come back out of that room. Now go." Then Lin Quan walked into the room and Shao Lin said "let's sit down it's going to be a while before they come back out."

Then the screaming started.

When they heard the screaming Shin Lao and Quin Li shuddered and looked at Shao Lin who was sitting against the wall across from the door with her head leaned back and eyes closed looking calm.

"Shao Lin?" said Shin Lao with worry.

"Everything is fine in there. Now if there wasn't any screaming then it'd be time to worry. Just sit there and be quiet, I'm trying to think." said Shao Lin in a neutral tone almost as if she'd been possessed.

"Fine, but I don't see how you can even hear your thoughts with this screaming going on." mumbled Shin Lao sitting down while Quin Li nodded and then sat down and pulled out a notebook and pen from his ring and started writing in it.

....

Half an hour later.

"Shao Lin can I go get some food. I Know you would never force your only bro's to starve to death. I understand that you want to wait until they're done in there but you even said yourself that it'd be a while. I'll even bring you back some food." said Shin Lao acting as if he was going to die.

"Fine. Go get something to eat but be quick about it please." said Shao Lin rolling her eyes.

"Thank you. You're the best. Be right back." said Shin Lao while getting up and running off down the hall.

"Aren't you going with him, Quin Li?" asked Shao Lin.

Quin Li looked at her and just shook his head then went back to writing in his book.

...

A few hours later

Finally the screaming had stopped and soon after Lin Quan walked out of the room and cleared his throat to get their attention.

"I'm done in there now. Ying Nam is just sleeping and here's your book back, Shao Lin." said Lin Quan handing the book to Shao Lin.

"Thank you for your help Lin Quan. I'll come by in a few days to give you your payment." said Shao Lin.
