Episode 5

Tigre (narrating)

After taking a shower, I slid into black underwear, distressed black jeans with a tear at the knee, a white t-shirt, and black sneakers. I styled my hair with pomade and sprayed on a generous amount of cologne, then grabbed my Glock and tucked it into my waistband before heading downstairs. I hopped onto my motorcycle and rode straight to the court, parking in the space reserved for the boss.

As I walked in, the crowd parted for me. I headed straight for the VIP section, greeting my crew along the way. I snatched a glass of whiskey and just hung back to enjoy the scene, looking around for Magrinho but not finding him.

"Hey Pipoca, seen Magrinho?" I asked.

"Went to pick up his girl," he replied, and I simply nodded in acknowledgment.

Soon after, one of the guys approached me.

"Boss, Carine's here asking to come up to the VIP. Should I let her?" he inquired.

"Let her come up," I responded.

I had plans for her tonight.

And she arrived shortly, in a dress that left almost nothing to the imagination.

"Hi, can I join you tonight?" she asked, settling onto my lap.

I just nodded, and she sat down, rhythmically moving on me. I continued sipping my whiskey when I noticed two of my guys at the railing looking intently below, so I decided to check out what had caught their attention.

"I'll be right back, Carine," I told her as I stood up, removing her from my lap. She made a disgusted face but stayed seated while I went over to the railing.

"What's up, Juninho?" I asked.

"Check out who's arriving with Magrinho and his girl—the gorgeous one," he remarked, prompting me to look quickly.

And then I saw her—Carol—there in the court, simply stunning, the kind of girl who catches everyone's eye. She was perfect, and I was instantly captivated.

Carol (narrating)

When I got home, I checked in on my grandmother who was lying down.

"Hi, grandma. Are you feeling better?" I asked.

"Yes, my love, just resting a bit," she said.

"Grandma, I'm heading to the dance. Will you be okay by yourself?" I asked, concerned.

"Yes, my dear. Go have fun, I'll be alright," she assured me.

"Alright then. I'll get ready, but I'll keep my phone on me. Call if you need anything and I'll come right away," I said, planting a kiss on her cheek before heading to my room.

I took a shower, moisturized, washed my hair, then dried off and put on deodorant. I dressed in a white bra, a green bodysuit, and short denim shorts with a beige belt. I applied dramatic makeup, spritzed on lots of perfume, dried my hair, and styled the ends into curls. I slipped on a pair of sandals with a modest heel that matched my belt, grabbed my cellphone and card, and waited for Dani to pick me up.

With a honk, I knew Dani and her boyfriend had arrived. I went out, got into the backseat, and we were on our way.

"Wow, girl, you look beautiful," Dani complimented.

"And you're stunning, fitting of a boss's girl," I quipped with a wink, and she smiled back.

Dani looked amazing with her hair down, wearing a short leather shorts and a red crop top, paired with high-heeled sandals. Magrinho was equally attractive, and they looked great together. I wondered if I'd ever find someone to care for me like that.

As we arrived at the court, people made way for us. I was familiar with the scene, having been to dances in other areas before, but never here. I noticed the glances from both men and women, but I didn't mind—I was there to enjoy myself.

Dani shouted over the loud music.

"Magrinho wants me to join him in the VIP. Let's go," she said.

"You go ahead, I'll stay here," I replied.

"Are you sure?" she asked.

"Yeah, I'll come up later," I told her.

She headed up while I made my way to the bar, ordered a strawberry caipirinha, paid for it, and sat down to enjoy my drink, taking in the dancing crowd. That's when I felt someone's gaze on me. Looking up, I saw Tigre staring intensely, along with two other guys. I quickly averted my gaze and turned away.

After finishing my drink, I joined the crowd to dance. Soon, Dani gestured for me to come up to the VIP, so I grabbed another caipirinha on my way there.

Once I arrived, Dani signaled me to sit with her. I took a seat and immediately noticed Tigre with a redhead on his lap, yet his eyes were fixed on me.

"So, Magrinho, aren't you going to introduce us to this princess?" asked a handsome man sitting beside me.

Magrinho glanced at him and said, "This is Carol, my girl's friend."

Everyone looked at me and greeted me, and I managed a shy nod in response, my face feeling hot with embarrassment.

We spent some time there, and Magrinho took to the stage to formally present Dani as his girl. It was a touching moment, the two clearly in love. Their kiss was met with celebratory gunfire from the supporters.

Dani returned to the table with beers for us, but I felt uneasy under Tigre's unwavering gaze, even the redhead noticed, shooting me dirty looks.

After a while, I signaled to Dani.

"I'm going to head out. I don't like to leave my grandma alone for too long," I said, standing up.

"Honey, ask one of the guys to drive her home," Dani suggested to Magrinho.

"No worries, I'm used to walking around here at this time," I insisted.

"I'll take you home, no problem," said the man who had been sitting beside me.

"Thanks, but it's really not necessary," I replied, already making my way out.

Tigre watched me but remained silent. I left the VIP, slipped off my sandals, and carried them as I walked home barefoot. Once there, I checked on my grandmother, took a shower, changed into pajamas, and soon fell asleep.

Man, the moment I saw her, my heart skipped a beat. Watching all those guys drooling over her was infuriating. Magrinho joined his girl in the VIP, and there was Carol at the bar, then dancing among the crowd with a confidence that captivated me. She avoided my gaze, turned her back on me—she must be messing with my head.

She eventually came up to the VIP, all poised and uninterested in giving in to any thug. My attention was fixed on her, the one who wouldn't even look at me. It felt like she had cast a spell on me; I couldn't stop thinking about her for a second.

Next to her, Juninho made himself comfortable, which annoyed me further. Not long after, she said she was leaving, and immediately, Juninho jumped at the chance to take her home, but she refused. I knew then I wanted her for myself. Mark my words, she will be mine.

After she left, I sent one of my guys to follow her home, making sure she got there safely. I felt a strange sense of relief when he confirmed she was safe.

"Tigre, let's go somewhere—I miss you," Carine whispered, kissing my neck and trying to kiss my lips, but I turned away. She knows I don't go for that kind of intimacy; for me, it's just about the moment, no kissing, no staying over.

We ended up in a vacant house where I took her then and there, with my thoughts lingering on the girl who had bewitched my mind. After that, I dropped Carine off and retreated to my own place.
