(Tommy)pov I was going out to chop some wood but I decided to get out to get a new pet
After looking forever for a specific biome, he finally found it. Mushroom heaven.
The purple moss filled between his toes, and the mooshrooms gently ate away at it. He needed this pet to be perfect, it needed to hit all the right boxes.
He sat under a mushroom, some cows coming by, licking his face, and continuing on their merry way.
He was worried that he’d need to go out more and look for more cows, until one came up.
It wasn’t bright red, but instead a beige. It cuddled into him immediately, licking his face as well.
Tommy laughed, he had found his cow. He tied the lead around its neck and began to walk it home. He didn’t put on his hat, or hid his tail, he was out in the middle of nowhere and the cows needed to accept what he was. He had forgotten that those at home didn’t know.
He got through the main portal and brought the cow over to some grass, waiting to take him home before grabbing some of the moss.
He smiled and pet the cow, naming it Plum. Tommy pet Plum gently, not paying attention to things around him.
He froze at the sound of metal hitting rock.
Tommy turned around, and when he saw Sapnap he immediately defended Plum, covering her up as much as possible.
“You’re a hybrid,” Sapnap said.
Oh, Tommy forgot to put his hat back on. He didn’t say anything, and just continued to stare.
“How, how did I not know? I should have sensed it at least!” Sapnap didn’t publicly disclose that he was a hybrid. He didn’t mind people knowing, but he didn’t make an effort to make people know.
Tommy was one of the few people left who didn’t know Sapnap was a hybrid. Unfortunately that was not what he thought. Sapnap went after pets and animals, slaughtering them for fun. Tommy feared he was next.
For once he felt small compared to the man.
Sapnap got closer, seemingly hesitant.
Tommy shut his eyes and looked away, he was going to die again, where he’d be brought back was a mystery.
Instead of a fist raining down or a cut of a blade, hands held his face with the same gentleness that Tubbo gave him after he and Techno fought in the pit. A gentle thumb put his hair behind his ear, and Tommy finally, ablete slowly, opened his eyes.
Orange and yellow freckles scattered across his face, and his hands the same gentle yet vibrant hue. He shared his heat, letting it gently warm the boy's face. His eyes changed from the usual black void to bright warm colors.
“You’re a hybrid too,” Tommy said.
Sapnap nodded. He knew all too well the pyramid and where the wolf pup stood on it. He pulled him close for a hug. Normally he was just seen as blood thirsty and violent, but when the exact opposite came out it was difficult to deny or even act against, the truth of that overwhelming with Dream and how much he changed from being the ultimate protector to the ultimate enemy.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Sapnap asked.
“No one knew until five days ago. No one was supposed to know.”
Something in the blaze hybrid snapped a little. This bunny had been fighting in wars, dying, had gone through hell and back, all for the fact that no one knew. The treatment wasn’t even intentional, but that didn’t excuse anything.
Tommy squeaked and Sapnap hugged him tighter, feeling like he was being crushed to death. He froze immediately, his heart rate shooting through the roof.
Sapnap had to do something, he had to repay and undo everything he did. He didn’t know about Snowchester, the living arrangements set up there, and just thought he continued to live in his hole in the wall. That wouldn’t do in his head, and he had a home with room and materials to spare. Kinoko Kingdom had room and strength to go with it, and that’s where the boy would stay until Sapnap could figure out a better, more permanent solution.
The grip loosed for a second before Tommy was thrown over his shoulder.
“It’s ok Sapnap! I’m fine!” Tommy protested.
Sapnap didn’t bother arguing. He had everything, and he could work out the finer details later.
“The **** are you doing!? Put me down!” A few seconds later, realizing that Sapnap was not going to listen or even respond, he remembered he was forgetting something. “Wait! What about Plum!?”
“About what?” The blaze asked.
“Plum, the cow, I named her Plum.”
Sapnap nodded. Grabbing a lead and bringing her along with him.
Tommy was thankful for the short trip. The home was pretty cute, and did satisfy a hybrid itch he couldn’t quite identify.
Sapnap tossed him an apple, giving him a little snack while he went to tell George and Karl.
Tommy ate the apple in small bites, trying to figure out what they were saying as all he could hear were unidentifiable murmurs. He knew that George was a wolf hybrid and Karl was human, but nothing could explain why he was there.
George burst through the door. “There’s no way! I at least would have known!”
Tommy looked up at the two, still eating away at his apple. He curled up, trying to hide the proof of his hybrid.
“Oh my god he actually is.”
Tommy quickly put together that Sapnap wasn’t going to keep this a secret. He did not spend seventeen years of his life making sure that he never showed the slightest bit of wolf pup hybrid instincts or proof for it to be thrown out by a blaze hybrid who hadn’t even known for an hour.
“What do we do?” George asked.
“Start undoing some damage we caused? Let people know so he doesn’t get hurt anymore?” Sap suggested.
“What’s up with the purple?” George began searching on the boy’s face and through his hair for it.
“Dunno, I was more preoccupied with getting him here. What is up with the purple Tommy? Is it a hybrid thing?”
Tommy knew wolf pup hybrids were rare, but he didn’t know that they were so rare no one knew what was a hybrid feature and what wasn’t.
“It wraps all around his head, it’s in his ears too!” George didn’t pay attention to how much strength he was using to maneuver the boy around.
“I don’t really know but it only came back when I was brought back from the dead, so,” Tommy said. He wanted to go home and hoped that if he answered his questions he would be allowed to.
Sapnap appeared to shift back and forth letting his blaze appearance come through more. “I didn’t know whether to believe or not that you died.”
“Ya, it’s not a particularly fond memory,” Tommy said, focusing on George now. “Can you get out of my hair mate! I shower I promise!”
“His hair is starting to grow purple in certain spots, it’s not much and not visible unless you look for it but if he gets a haircut I think it might be.”
Sapnap got closer and also started looking through the boy’s hair, not totally believing George. He knew Tommy was getting fed up and scratched at the base of his hybrid ear. It worked for George, what harm could it do.
Tommy was ready to curse them out, to start yelling and kicking telling them to leave his damn head alone, then someone started to scratch along his ear, quelling the protest that was about to come up. Maybe he could wait a minute before telling them to quit. Then he remembered that the purple was growing into his hair, concealer could hide the hue on his face, but a hat could only cover so much. “Am I going to have purple patches in my hair?”
“Your ears too I think, god your head got smashed up pretty good, the hell happened?”
He did not want to revisit death again, so prompted to say nothing and to lean into the scratching.
Karl stood in the doorway watching his fiancé and friend dig through the child’s hair. “Am I interrupting something?”
“Tommy died, was brought back, and is a hybrid, it’s been an eventful afternoon.”
“Is that why there’s a cow on the first floor?”
“Yep,” Sapnap said.
“Her name is Plum,” Tommy said.
Karl nodded slowly.
They all decided until a more concrete plan was in place, that Tommy was staying there to be safe and taken care of.
It wasn’t long into the night when Tubbo came in ready to kill and Ranboo had to hold him back, willing to have an actual conversation.
Explaining that yes, they knew, and yes, Tommy has moved to Snowchester, and yes, Tommy is not on his own, Kinoko Kingdom allowed Tommy to leave knowing he was safe.
Even with Tommy assuring them that he wasn’t hurt, and they had absolutely no plans on hurting them, Tubbo still glared daggers, and stayed behind for just a few seconds to tell the trio that if this happened again Ranboo wouldn’t be there to hold him back.
“Oh, wait! I almost forgot!” Tommy ran back inside.
“What’d you forget?” Ranboo asked.
Tommy came back out with a cow. “This is Plum!”
Tubbo smiled and awed, Tommy somehow picked out the cutest pets.
“I never knew mooshrooms could be brown,” Ranboo said.
“Apparently that’s what happens when they get struck by lightning!”
“Just like you?” Ranboo asked with a smile, booping the blonde boy’s nose. Since the strike Tommy had light streaks running through his hair and scars of where the bolt traveled.
“Whatever you big softie, let’s get home, I’m tired, and I can imagine you guys are too
