Daddy, Please Marry Mommy!
Chapter 4 - Bonding
Cassian King
How long is this song?
Liana Ashfield
As long as the orchestra wants it to be, though I doubt it will be for much longer once my brother and father tell them to stop.
Cassian King
They seem obsessively protective of you.
Liana Ashfield
Well, don't say that like it's a good thing.
Liana Ashfield
Sure, they try to keep me safe, but it's suffocating me.
Liana Ashfield
Not that I'm ungrateful for having a brother and father who'd do anything for me...
Cassian King
Yes, you're right. Some people aren't lucky to have any parents at all.
Does he not have any parents?
Liana Ashfield
I'm sure that they were lovely people.
Cassian King
How could you be so sure?
Liana Ashfield
Well, they did something right. They raised you after all.
The music slowly began to disappear into the background as Cassian's movement slowed down the tinest bit.
I gave him a small smile before I followed his pace, twirling around and matching the music.
His hand was rough but held mine like it was delicate.
Cassian King
You're a strange one...
My eyes opened slightly as he chuckled.
Cassian King
Nevermind. Sorry, that was weird.
Liana Ashfield
Well, anything beats being boring.
Liana Ashfield
So, Mr All-In-Black? Are you boring?
Cassian King
The exact opposite tonight.
That sounded... loaded. Flirtatiously loaded.
I decided to ignore his answer.
It's clear that he isn't looking for "that".
But would I mind it if he was looking for "that"?
Cassian King
My board seemed satisfied from this distance.
Liana Ashfield
Are you sure that they can see that grin on your face or is that just a trick of the light.
Cassian King
No, that is indeed a grin.
Cassian King
Though, if anyone asks, I will deny it until the day I die.
I smiled at him and suddenly, I felt his hand gently tighten around my waist.
It was subtle, no one could tell it from the distance where they were standing, but it happened.
Cassian King
Seems like I just have great company.
My back was set ablaze, fire filling my body with an unquenchable inferno that only seemed to grow in the presence of Mr Black.
His fingertips touched the bare skin across my back while we concentrated on our steps, the tips of his fingertips gently and subtly slipping underneath the fabric of my backless dress.
It wasn't on purpose... it can't be...
It's the moment, that's all. The moment is moving his fingers.
I didn't give out any indication that I disliked it because... I just didn't.
I could only imagine where else his fingers could fuel with that warmth.
Wait, had I said that out loud?
Liana Ashfield
Oh, nothing. Just lost in thought.
Cassian King
I wonder what about...
I was about to reproach him for his cheek when the music stopped.
At that very moment, Keith appeared from behind me and smiled.
Keith Ashfield
I've got her next dance reserved.
Keith Ashfield
Kindly step aside...
Keith Ashfield
*thinking* You mongrel... you don't even deserve to look at my sister.
Cassian King
It was lovely to dance with you, Miss Ashfield.
