The Principal

“Why did you enter the forest?” asked the girl, “Don’t you know it’s forbidden to enter the forest?”

“We…We entered there to talk in private.” Angon answered.

“But don’t you the forest is dangerous?” Don’t you know the rules and regulations?”

‘How would I know? I don’t even know who am I?’

Thought Angon.

“We don’t have anything to do now. You have to be before judgement. Otherwise, we would get punished.” Said the girl, “Come with us.”

“Where?” asked Angon.

“To the principal.” Answered Naita, “Mr. Crestar. The rule is, we have to inform him when we see someone enter that forest.”

“But…” Angon stopped.

“If we don’t do it, we would remain answerable.” Said another student, “Do you want we all get into trouble for you two?”

Angon looked towards Faruk. They could not see any other way. They started towards the school building with the other students. They were taken to an office room in the front side of the school. 

A man with grey color suit was in the office. He was around 40 years old. Skin of the face was burned with sunlight. Color of eyes was bright blue. His hair was also grey. Mr. Crester.

He took Faruk and Angon in another room at the back. Then he closed the door. Two of them remained standing before his desk stupidly.

He stared at them with his bright blue eyes. His hair was glowing because of using too much hair oil.

The principal was also unknown. Angon hadn’t seen him the last year.

“I have heard, you two entered the forest?”

Angon nodded. “Yes, we did.”

His heart was again beating faster, even faster than before. 

Then he looked towards Faruk, “Both of you?”

Faruk, “Yes.”

His tone became bitter, “Both of you have done a big mistake. Both of you know the punishment. Do you have anything to say?”

Both of them kneeled down and took a table on their head. A sound came out of his mouth. 

Principal stared at them. Then he thought something. 

“Okay. As this is for your first time I am forgiving you, go. But I don’t want to see you doing the same mistake again.”

“Oh, I forgot something. You already know that it is forbidden to enter the forest. What were you doing in the forest?”

Angon wanted to tell him the truth. He was trying to say, “We don’t know from where we came, Mr. Crester. We don’t know anyone in this school. Even we don’t know your letters.”

But Angon couldn’t tell the truth. He somehow knew, if he told the truth, he would run into a greater danger.

“We saw a strange animal. Then we followed it and entered the forest, Mr. Crester.”

“Many strange things are in there, inside that forest.” Mr. Crester told in a low voice, “That’s why it is forbidden to enter that forest.”

“Actually, it is our first day.” Told Faruk, “That’s why we forgot.”

Mr. Crester sat on his chair. He took a pencil and started hitting the table.

“Angon.” He said, “I have head you couldn’t solve a simple equation in the class. You even couldn’t write anything in the computer. Even you were looking at the map like you have never seen it. What’s the reason, can I know?”

Rather than answering, Angon wanted to ask, ‘Which school is this? What is the name of this city? Which alphabets you are using to write? Why can’t I remember anything?’

But he couldn’t ask. He just looked down.

“Hmm… I understand. You were being mischievous with the teacher. First time many students do this. I will not accept this type of thing the next time. Now go to your class.” Said Mr. Crester, “I do not want to something like this again, okay? You are now students of thrilth class. You have become older. You have to work after thinking, only then the younger students can learn from your action.”

‘Thrilth’ again this strange word. 

They started walking through the hallway. The sound of shutting off lockers was coming. Students were taking their books and moving to their respective classes. 

Faruk stopped in front of a locker. “I am too much scared.”

Angon bit his lower lip. He answered, “Me too.”

There was a low wall outside the window. After that there was the playground. A head suddenly came up from the wall. He said, “Hey, listen.”

Angon and Faruk looked back. They saw a boy of their age. 

They heard some students were talking and coming towards them. They lost their courage. Everything was dangerous there. They didn’t want to get into any more troubles. So, they did not look at the boy. They quickly started walking towards their class.
