After school, he goes to the cafe for his part-time job.
He immediately changed into his uniform. He wears the apron and name tag, then he proceeds to cleaning.
As soon as he opened the store, customers begin to come and go.
He takes their orders and prepares them himself.
Lucas
What's taking him so long?
He hands over the cappuccino to the customer and gives a small smile.
Lucas
Thank you for your order!
After a few minutes, someone wearing the same apron approached him.
Vin
I'm Vin! Nice to meet you!
Vin
Rex told me to cover for him since he won't make it today.
Vin
Wow! Great name you got there!
Lucas continues to assist customers in the counter while Vin prepares the orders.
He is doubting if Vin can make coffees since it's his first time working in the cafe.
But he chooses to not say a thing when he saw how good the other is.
He is fast and doesn't make a single mistake.
Lucas is satisfied with his performance.
Unknowingly, he is smiling.
Perhaps because of how lively Vin is.
It's late in the evening when they closed the cafe.
Vin
I learned so much from you!
He's thanking him although he didn't teach him anything at all.
Lucas
Are you being sarcastic or what?
Vin
I just wanna thank you
Vin
So, yup! Goodbye and I'll let Rex know what happened.
Lucas watches as Vin walks away.
They are taking separate ways.
It also makes him think why Vin said working was fun.
Lucas
What's fun in working here?
His muscles hurt and so do his eyes.
He's been sleeping for only 2-3 hours every day.
As he open the door, the silence welcomes him.
Lucas
Guess no one's home.
His younger sister is probably still in school.
Their parents are abroad.
Although it is only their mom who works.
Lucas walks to his room and throws himself in bed.
He saw a peace of paper on the floor.
A message was written:
"Bro, dad called me earlier and he said he wants to talk to you."
Lucas raised an eyebrow and continue to read.
"He is asking if you could send some money for their expenses. I told him we're tight right now. But he keeps on insisting."
Lucas
*heaves a huge sigh*
"Try to talk to him. I won't be home tonight."
Lucas buries his face on his pillow.
Lucas
What do they think of me?
Lucas
Aren't they supposed to be the ones to send us money for our expenses here?
Lucas
Is my purpose to feed them all my life?
Lucas
It feels like I'm the father of this family...
Lucas
Can I even call this as one?
Although he never really expected more from his parents.
He works day and night while still attending university.
He provides for his younger sister and yet...
They all depend on him too much.
