Prologue

I stood there on my balcony in agony. I heard some maids gasping, screaming and others snickering. They covered the mouths with their hands pretending to be shocked. But I’m almost 100% sure they are hiding their amused smiles. I’m done with everything. I can’t do this anymore. Not only does my husband ignore me, the maids disrespect me. My needs aren’t fulfilled and my belongings are either left uncleaned, stolen or broken by my maids. I have a responsibility to attend tea parties and balls as the Duke’s wife. But I stopped going due to the harassment I had been receiving after they realized I was ignored by the Duke.

I recall all my bad memories of parties and balls…

“Oops! Sorry, Duchess! I accidentally spilled my tea on you. Oh wait, you’re not even a duchess.” A noblewoman said to me arrogantly. Everyone around me snickered at my humiliation. I stood there silent for a minute, speechless. Then I ran out of the room and escaped the tea party. Rumours started circulating the nobles fraction and even the maids starting whispering about me. The rumours caused me lots of suffering.

Not only did my husband glare at me, I got slapped by my father.

“You useless, stupid daughter! You should have never married the duke! Your sister should have married him!! You know what? You should have never been born in the first place!!!” I left my family’s mansion quickly. I desperately tried to hide my swollen face but the knight accompanying me saw.

I’m not loved. I want to end this now. This suffering! What did I ever do to deserve this?! Maybe… I should just jump off. Nobody will care if I died. I’ll just end all this suffering right now. I slowly stepped onto the balcony railing. At this point, I hear maids screaming at the top of their lungs and footsteps rushing through the hallway. Honestly, they probably thought I was pretending to kill myself to get attention from the Duke.

“Miss!” I heard a maid scream. I closed my eyes and slowly leaned back. I felt myself falling. There were screams of terror. And a loud deep voice desperately yelling my name.

“Amelia!”

Then I woke up in a strange room. My vision was blurry and it took me a minute to realize what was going on. I sat up immediately when I realized I wasn’t dead. I looked at my surroundings carefully. It was a small and plain room that was a mess and rundown. Huh?!?!? Didn’t I die? Why am I alive?! She ran into the bathroom and looked at her reflection. Who.. is this?! Suddenly I had an extremely painful headache. W-what is this?! These are… this body’s memories?! I slowly stood back up and peered at her reflection. I tried to accept the fact that I was reborn into a new body in another world. To reassure myself, I told myself confidently, “From today onwards, I am Seon Yeon who lives in college!”
