Chapter 4

Li Mei’s POV

“Li Mei? What are you doing here?” Ms. Lu, the detention monitor asks. Ms. Lu was nice and I liked her a lot. She’s old and kind but if you get on her bad side, you’re out of luck.

“Oh uh... I was disrupting class.” I answer, taking a seat. She nods.

“Wang Yuan. Welcome back.” Ms. Lu says, glaring at him.

“Hello, Ms. Lu.” He says, scratching the back of his neck.

“Take a seat.” Ms. Lu says, plainly. He nods and takes a seat next to me.

Makayla walks in.

“Hi Yuan Yuan! I got detention just for you!” She cheers.

“Shh! Have a seat!” Ms. Lu says, ticked off.

She takes a seat next to Wang Yuan and scoots her seat closer to him.

“Maybe detention will bring us closer together.” Makayla smiles, flirtatiously.

Wang Yuan scoots closer to me in disgust. I put my head down, tapping my fingers on the desk.

“Come on, Yuan Yuan!” Makayla giggles.

“Makayla! One more word and you will stay for another half hour!” Ms. Lu says, sternly.

Makayla mumbles something under her breath and crosses her arms.

After 30 minutes, Ms. Lu lets us go.

“Ooh! Are we going to your house, Yuan Yuan? I’ve always wanted to go there!” Makayla giggles.

“Uh... no. Don’t follow me home. Can you leave me alone?” Wang Yuan asks, trying to be as polite as possible.

“But Yuan Yuan-”

“If you go to the park, I’ll meet you there.” Wang Yuan lies.

“Okay! I’ll see you there, Yuan Yuan!” She blows him a kiss before running off.

I laughed.

“What?” He turns to me.

“Nothing. Let’s hurry home before she comes back and follows us home.” I say, running off.

We hurry into the house and lock the door.

“What took you guys so long?” Qin Qin asks.

“Wang Yuan’s little girlfriend wanted to follow us home.” I giggle.

“She’s not my girlfriend! Eww!” Wang Yuan yells. I go into the kitchen and he follows.

I took some chips out of the cabinet and started eating them.

“Fat much?” He chuckles.

“It’s food. I can’t resist food.” I say with a mouth full of chips.

I go into the living room where the rest of them are.

Ding dong!

I check the monitor that shows us who’s outside.

Ugh. It’s Addison. And guess who she’s with? Makayla.

“What are you doing? Answer the door.” My brother says.

“Haha, nope.” I say, walking away from the door. He gets up but I tackle him onto the couch.

“Don’t answer that stupid door!” I said.

We wait for about 5 minutes.

Ding dong!

“What the-” I start.

“That’s it. I’m answering the door.” Junkai gets up. I jump up, grab him, and cover his mouth.

“Don’t you dare.” I threatened.

He rolls his eyes and sits back down.

After awhile, we heard voices.

“I guess they’re not home.” I heard Addison’s voice.

“But I wanna see Yuan Yuan! He stood me up!” Makayla whined.

Addison laughs.

“I can see why!” Addison continues laughing.

The two of them walk off. I sigh in relief.
