Chapter 3

Li Mei’s POV

“Hey guys! How was art?” Qian Xi asks.

“Horrible. Makayla tried to get me to hang out with her after school.” Wang Yuan says in disgust.

“Okay students! We’re playing dodgeball today! Choose your teams! There will be 4 groups of 5!” The teacher, Mr. Zhang, yells clapping his loud hands.

Our group was pretty obvious. Some girls did come up and ask to join the group just because Junkai, Wang Yuan, and Qian Xi were in it though.

We went up against the team with some of the girls who asked to be in our team first.

“Okay! 3...2...1...BEGIN!!!” Mr. Zhang’s loud voice rumbled.

We scrambled for the balls.

“Hey! Li Mei!” A voice calls.

I looked up to see who has called my name. To my surprise, it was one of the girls who liked my brother.

She threw the ball straight at my head.

Wang Yuan’s POV

“Hey! Li Mei!” Was all I heard before I saw Xiao Li get hit in the face with a dodgeball and collapse onto the ground.

“Xiao Li!” The rest of us cry worriedly, hurrying over to her.

Junkai picks her up and we all follow him to the nurse.

“What happened?” Mrs. Yi, the nurse, asks with a concerned look. Mrs. Yi is a great nurse, she’s caring and always makes sure the student is alright before sending them back to class.

“She got hit in the face with a dodgeball during gym!” I blurt out, frantically.

“Ok, ok. Calm down everyone. Alright. I only need one of you to stay so when she’s okay, you can walk her back to class.” Mrs. Yi says.

“I’ll stay with her.” I volunteer.

“Alright, Wang Yuan. The rest of you, please head back to class and tell the teacher that Wang Yuan will stay here with Li Mei until she is okay.” Mrs. Yi tells the others calmly.

They nod in agreement and head back to class.

Mrs. Yi gently shakes Xiao Li.

“Li Mei. I’m gonna need you to wake up, sweetie.” She says in a soothing voice.

“Mmm... huh...?” Xiao Li opens her eyes.

“Good job, hon. Do you feel any pain anywhere?” Mrs. Yi asks.

“My nose hurts a bit.” She answers, putting her fingers on her nose.

“Alright, that’s normal. Take this ice pack. Your nose will be sore for awhile but it will get better, alright?” Mrs. Yi says, handing her an ice pack.

“Come on, Xiao Li. Let’s go back to gym.” I say. She nods as she puts the ice pack to her nose.

“Thank you, Mrs. Yi.” She says with a small smile.

“Anytime, Li Mei. You be careful now.” Mrs. Yi says with a wave.

The others rush over to us as we enter the gym.

“Xiao Li! Please tell me you’re alright!” Qin Qin says, worriedly.

“Are you okay?” Qian Xi says, concerned.

“We spoke with Mr. Zhang. That girl’s in the office right now.” Junkai says.

“Yeah. I’m alright, guys.” Xiao Li says.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

At Lockers

Li Mei’s POV

“Ok then. I’ll see you two at home then.” Junkai says as Qian Xi and Qin Qin wave goodbye.
