It was hard work.. Confessing

We walked and talked about so many things on the way home but all I could do was look at Fuyuko. I don’t know why she attracted me so much. I mean I know why but I don’t know exactly how she did it. I always told her to knock before coming inside but this she just barged right in. Right into my-

“ Akio, you’ve been spacing out a lot. Are you really ok?,” Fuyuko asks.

“ I’m fine. It’s just that my stomach hurts a bit,” I had to lie so that she wouldn’t be worried about me later.

“ Guess I’ll have part ways with you guys here,” Kiriyama interrupts us.” I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

He walked a few steps and then turned back.

“ Akio, Good luck.”

I felt so embarrassed at that moment but I knew that he was wishing the best. I smiled and waved at him. I turned to Fuyuko and she seemed so confused. I turned to her trying to make up an excuse.

“ I have my make up tests from tomorrow so he wished me luck,” I tell her.

“ I see. We’ll then good luck. I have to part ways here anyway,” she says.

“ See you tomorrow.”

I walk home and go straight to my bed. ‘ What do I do?’, ' How did this happen?’, ' I have nothing to lose so I might as well go for it.’ Those were the thoughts that tannin my mind. My mind was having a mini debate inside and before I knew it was morning already. Maybe it was pretty quick how the morning sun rise can look. I go out for a walk and try to pick up the courage to ask her out after class. That’s right I have to ask her to wait for me on the roof after class.

I walk back home and wear my school uniform and head to school.

“ Akio! Good morning.”

“ Fuyuko, Good morning.”

“ You look like you’ve slept some extra hours today. That’s not like you at all.”

I wish I could get even a bit sleep. What’s wrong with her eyes anyway. Even I knew I looked like a mess.

“ I fell asleep as soon as I got home,” I said and then remembered I had to tell her to wait for me on the rooftop after class.

“ Fuyuko if you can you-“

“ Good morning,” Kiriyama comes out and says it out of nowhere.

“ Kiriyama, Good morning,” I say in a very angry voice.

“ I messed up didn’t I,” Kiriyama said in a half smile.

“ You better do something later.”

“Ok.. Fuyuko meet me at the rooftop after school,” Kiriyama says.

He then grabs me by the collar and tells me to make sure I go there as soon as the sun is setting. He said that it was the best time and if I ever went late tell her that the teacher called me. I thanked him obviously.

****After school****

I ran up to the rooftop and made sure I wasn’t late.

“ Fuyuko?”

“ Akio… What are you doing here?”

“ I have to tell you something important.”

“ You know even I have to tell you something important.”

I opened my eyes wide and thought that this couldn’t be a coincidence. If it was then I’ll believe that love is not just a dream. I mean this moment decides my point of view on love.

“ Then let’s say it at the same time,” I tell her.

“ It’s best if you go first,” she told me.

“ Then. I’ll go first. I..I..uh..I love you. Please go out with me,” I say with all the courage I could muster.

“ Sorry, but I can’t accept this,” she tells me.

“ I see. Sorry for wasting your time,” I tell about to cry.

“ Your supposed to hug me and then say it,” she says with her face red.

The sun was setting and I thought it was the perfect opportunity. I walk up to her and give her a hug.

“I love you and I always will. Please accept me for who I am,” I tell her.

“ Of course. Who else is going to take care of you,” she says with a smile.

That was the day that changed my life. The proposal was only part of the reason why that day was special. The main reason is that I saw her eyes back then and it told me something.

“ I’ve been waiting all this time. Where were you?”
