Advice

The next day I got up and got dressed. I walked down the stairs and saw bags under my eyes. I washed my face and headed outside. I walk to school and see Fuyuko walking a few feet away from me. Ah! Such a coincidence couldn’t possibly be 'fate.’ I hate that term more than ever now. I walk to school trying not to be noticed by her but then Kiriyama had to come shouting my name out.

“ Akio. Wait up!”

“ Oh, Kiriyama. Good morning.”

“ Fuyuko join us.” With that I knew he made things worse for me or at least that’s what I thought.

“ Kiriyama. Good morning. Didn’t see you there.”

“ Goo..good.. good morning Fuyuko,” I say trying to see if she’s still mad at me or not.

“ Good morning, Akio,” she said with a smile. I couldn’t find anything wrong with the smile but it did feel empty from the inside. I walk the rest of the way without uttering another word. I wasn’t paying attention to class and felt out of order for the full day. After school I left my back there in class and headed up to the rooftop. Fuyuko saw me going there but she walked out of the school gates. I did tell her that I would wait until she showed up so that’s what I did. Fuyuko was up in her bedroom reading a book. She was wondering whether she should come to rooftop to where I was or whether she should ignore me. But I waited and waited until she came. My watch showed me the time. It was a glow in the dark watch. I had since I was a kid. It was a gift from Fuyuko so I kept it safe.

“8:26 pm”

That’s what it showed and I was up on the rooftop admiring the stars.

“ There sure a lot of stars today,” I mumbled to myself.

“ There sure is,” a voice from behind startled me.

I knew that voice. It was the voice I’ve wanted to hear since morning. I needed advice and that’s what God gave me that day. A person to give me comfort and advice.

“ Kiriyama? What are you doing here?”

“ I saw you going up to the rooftop today so I waited for you to come down. You never did so I came up instead.”

“ Don’t you have somewhere to be?”

“ You think I wouldn’t be there if I was supposed to be there,” he said with a smile. “ I’m where I have to be beside you.”

“ Thanks. But how did you know I wanted advice?”

“ I didn’t say I came here to give you advice.”

“ Shut up! Idiot.”

“ Sometimes you have to be honest with your feelings to solve something.”

“ I’m not worried about her.”

“ I didn’t say she was the problem here.”

“ Stop doing that already.”

“ Anyway I told you what I had to. Be honest with your feelings.”

I thanked him and ran out of there. I didn’t know what I would do or what I should but all I did was run and it felt like the right thing to do so I did it.

“ I shouldn’t be the one talk about being honest. Like I am,” Kiriyama says with tears rolling down his face.
