New Friend?

I woke up late today. I mean the only reason I woke up was because Fuyuko came and woke me up. I got up and got dressed. We walk to school and chat as usual.

“ Anything on your mind yet?” Fuyuko asks me.

“ Not yet! It’s a lot tougher than I thought it would be,” I say in a very stressful tone.

“ Don’t worry you’ll find a way soon,” Fuyuko assures me.

“ Thanks, your always a big help.”

“ It’s the most I can do, don’t sweat it.”

As we walk through the gates of the school I keep thinking about how to make friends or with who to make friends. I mean everyone was looking at me in the hallway and that made it even harder for me to approach them. I’ve always avoided attention and so this feels new to me.

“ If I didn’t tell you before I’ll tell you now. You look amazing with that short hair of yours. I can see your face more clearly,” Fuyuko says.

“ Is that the reason everyone’s looking at me?” I ask her.

“Maybe! Why don’t you find out for yourself,” she says mockingly.

“ Oii! Wait up. I’m not ready yet! Oii Fuyuko.”

“ It’s ok, it’s ok. Just talk to them like how you talk to me.”

With that I scream out one word for the whole class to hear me. I didn’t know what else to do.

“GOOD MORNING!”

Everyone’s attention was on me. I thought I was going to get ignored, not like it was anything new to me. But this felt really embarrassing for some reason. Nobody answered. And I thought I messed up. It was the most easiest thing to do and I messed it up too much.

“ Good morning,” someone for the back replied.

I open my eyes and smile at him.

“ Good morning.”

I walk up to him and ask him if we could talk more often. He looked surprised and I thought that it was too soon for that.

“ Sorry! I didn’t mean to trouble you like that. I can understand if you don’t want to because we only just met-“

“ Sure. Why not! My name is kiriyama Yuta. And you are? Wait I know I think I remember…. What was it again. Oh! Yeah! Akio Tachibana.”

“ I’m glad you know my name.”

“ See you later. I have to go.”

“ Ja. See you.”

“See it wasn’t that hard now was it?” Fuyuko asks me.

“ I’ll try my best to talk to everyone.”

“ You better,” Fuyuko whispers to herself.

“ Huh?”

“ Nothing. Just talking to myself.”

“ Sorry I’m late. I had some work before coming to school,” the teacher apologizes as she runs into class.

We start class but I was too happy to pay attention to what was going on in class. I always thought that people thought that I was dark person who had no feelings towards others at all. It felt kind of sad but then I got used to it and it felt like what ever they said was coming true. I couldn’t do anything and I thought I was done for but then someone reached out their hand to me. She was Fuyuko. Yes, from the time I was also this was happening to me and so I decided to change.

“ – kio, Akio!” the teacher snapped at me.

“ Sorry! I’m a little tired that’s all.”

Class was over by then. Fuyuko and I want up to the roof of the school like always for lunch. We were about to eat when someone else opened the door to the roof.

“ Mind if I join you?”
