"Jess! My pouch is gone!" Sienna shouted on the phone.
"Heh ... what the hell? Your pouch? It’s not with me! When did you give it to me?!" answered the lazy voice at the other end. Jessie was making Sienna even more annoyed. It seems like she just woke up, her words were still jumbled.
"Jessie! Are you sleeping still? Wake up! My pouch is gone. What should I do?" Sienna shouted feeling even more frustrated. "Yes, I’m awake. What the heck? Why are you screaming like that? You scared me. You ruined my sweet dream." The girl blurted out with mumbled voice. Obviously Jessie was not one hundred percent awake.
"Weren’t you listening to me? My pouch is gone! G.O.N.E! What should I do?"
"So? Just get a new one. What’s all the fuss about?" Jessie’s simple answer made Sienna felt like pulling her red curly hair. “Damn it!!” Sienna silently cursed in her heart. ‘Can this brat be a little more sympathetic?!’
"Thank you for your brilliant advice!" BANG !!! Sienna slammed the phone in her hand out of frustration.
Sienna just realized that her favorite lilac Cath Kidston pouch wasn't there when she was about to pay for a magazine at street vendor. For the life of her, she couldn’t figure out where it was hiding. Her big backpack was in a huge mess, after she searched every corner and slot for her pouch, even under the bottom pad. But still, the pouch was nowhere to be found. And her cell phone battery was running low. She finally had to cancel the magazine and was forced to go home on foot under the burning sun. ‘Consider it exercise in broad daylight.’ Sienna persuaded herself. Although she wasn’t sure the calories burned are comparable to the large bottle of Pepsi she downed once she got home.
Ringgg ... ‘That must be that brat.’ Sienna bet it must be Jessie. She must be calling to apologize for ignoring Sienna’s call earlier.
"Hello!"
"Sisi, it's me!"
"Who is ‘me’? I don’t think I know anyone called 'me'." Sienna answered furiously.
"Ouch! That stings. This is Jessie, your best friend since elementary school, who you just called three minutes ago, who is stunning, sweet, adorable, and ...”
"Fat right?" Sienna continued.
"Hey hey. No body-shaming, remember? I am fully awake and thinking straight now. And I’m ready to be your trash can now. So what did you earlier?" Jessie babbled on without the slightest hint of guilt.
"My pouch is gone!"
"Huh. Seriously?!"
‘Now she understands what I was saying!’ Sienna was pulling her hair in her mind.
"Where did you lose it? Have you searched for it in your backpack? Maybe it's tucked under something else? Or maybe you did not bring it earlier. Have you searched your room? Under the bed?"
"No pouch. I’ve even poured my bag out, but I didn't find it either. I don’t know where I dropped it, but definitely not in the house. And I'm not you who shove everything under the bed just so your room looks tidier."
"Hehehe ... you really understand me the most. So where have you been looking?" Jessie asked again.
"Only my backpack. I don’t know where to start looking. "
"Great effort, girl! No wonder you haven’t found it. Try to remember where the last time the pouch was seen. Where did you go? And, what did you do?" Jessie asked like a capable detective. Sienna also tried to recall the chronology of events since the last time the fateful pouch was seen.
"Ehmm ... Ehmm ... when I was in the cafeteria, the pouch was still there. Then I went to the library to return some books. After that, I went to the toilet for a moment ... No need to explain what I did there, right? Then I went to the parking lot ..."
"The parking lot? What were you doing there? Didn't you take public transport to campus yesterday?" Jessie cut in. The parking lot was located right next to the south gate, while the bus stop was near the north gate.
"Heyyyy ... It’s none of your business." Sienna said in self-defense, even though she was actually embarrassed to death. "I have business with Chris, so I looked for him there."
"Yeah righttt! You got a ride from him, right?" Jessie just hit a bulls-eye. It's true that it's the main intention, but there’s no need to say it out loud, right?
"You want me to get angry again?" My threat turned out to work, Jessie was a taken aback. "After that, I returned to the park. Then I came home ... So where did I drop it, huh?" Sienna asked. Actually it was also useless to ask Jessie. After all, if even Sienna who owned the pouch didn't even know where it was, let alone Jessie!
"Oh well, I'll ask the others later, who knows someone found your pouch. But I can’t promise I’ll find it for you. Because in today's world, who could refuse if they find something valuable. Ah yes, is there anything important in your pouch?” Jessie asked again stupidly.
"Of courseeeee… . All my important cards are there. Student card, library card, ATMs - I've blocked them - ID, and some other things as well. There were only ten dollars in cash tho."
"I pity the poor guy who found it. He must be very disappointed to have found a poor man's belonging." Jessie said while laughing loudly. Come to think of it, it was really funny. The one who took the pouch must be disappointed to see there were only ten dollars in cash. Sienna joined and laughed along.
"But however you think about it, you’re still the one who suffers the most." Jessie’s carried on ignorantly. "Alright. I’m going to the college. if I'm late I'll be expelled later! I'll help you find it later. Bye-bye."
Actually losing the student card and library card was what made Sienna panic the most. Not that she was a bookworm, but as a final semester student working on her thesis, library card was a sacred item, so she can borrow books. Besides that, a lot of luck has happened to her since she got the pouch from her dad.
‘Duh, where are you my pouch??? Please, come back, my dear pouch. I miss you so much. Or just return the two cards to me, that’d be more than enough. Whoever got the pouch can take the rest. Uh, give me back my Justin Bieber photo as well. Hehehe. I was embarrassed because I was caught keeping an artist’s photo in my pouch. But, so what, huh?!?! I can keep whatever I want in my pouch!!’ Sienna spoke to herself. Beep ... Beep ... an incoming text from Chris!!! Her anger disappeared instantly. She quickly read the message.
Hey, Si. What are you doing? You’re thinking of me, huh? He ... He ... I have something to tell you. It’s urgent! Tomorrow, I’ll meet you in the park at four. Don't forget come! I’ll be waiting. Good night, dream of me!
- Chris -
‘Whoa ... Chris wants to say something? Don't tell me he wants to confess to me. Wow, that’d be great! Yess ... Yesss!’ Sienna shouted in her heart. ‘Yes, he definitely wants to confess to me. There's no mistaking it. I'm very sure. I can't wait until tomorrow.’
