Justice. What does it mean to serve justice? The reasoning of justice is not always the same.
For me, ever since I was a child, true justice is the resolve to prove a person's innocence on crimes they've been accused of.
Serving justice in court...was like a wild dream to me. It was fortunate to know, that there is another Ore who decided to take that opportunity and go all out.
(So this Ore became a lawyer....unbelievable.)
The case that was brought in this trial is a conflict between Tom R, the CEO of R.Corps, and his co-worker, Flint Wake, who is the defendant. Tom accused Flint of a personal reason, blaming him for stealing his wife's wedding ring.
The wedding ring was found inside Flint's drawer at the office.
(It would make sense that Lawyer Ore would be paid for defending this guy....but it's still unbelievable.)
"As you can see, we have discovered fingerprints on the defendant's drawer. Unfortunately, the Investigation Agency haven't reported the results for who it belongs to..."
"This is ridiculous... once again, Ore, you have exceeded my expectations."
The prosecutor seemed very competitive, as if he and Ore has some sort of rivalry.
"Your honor. The prosecution would like to request more time for investigating the matter."
"Fine then. I'm giving one more week to both of you. Court adjourned!"
(Is that how court works...?)
[Writer's Note: I never had any experience in Law. Sorry if a few things are inaccurate.]
I took the opportunity to approach my Lawyer self.
"HEY, YOU! ORE!"
"Yes, is there something do you need-"
"I'll get straight to the point. I am Ore, an Average version of you, and you are Ore, a Lawyer version of me. Don't bother being confused. It never makes sense."
"eh?"
eh....
"Argh, I'LL JUST EXPLAIN EVERYTHING!"
One long explanation later...
"I think I get the gist of it. So you're me...but without a suit!"
"I CAN'T EVEN AFFORD SUCH A COOL SUIT! Look, I'm more curious about the case than how I ended up here, so can you tell me what's going on??"
"Well...it's better if I'll just show you."
We went to the detention center, in order to meet the defendant, Flint Wake.
"How are you feeling, Mr. Wake?"
"I dunno, dude! Whenever I get nervous, I drop my formal way of speech and goes all smooth! What if the fingerprints belong to me?? It's the end...WHAT HAVE I DOOOONE-"
"Calm down, Mr. Wake! No matter what happens, I won't give up on proving your innocence. That's true justice in my book."
(Justice...)
"Um, who's this little guy next to you, Ore?"
"This is...err....ah, this is Mr. Flamingo. He's a brother of a friend of mine, and he's currently undergoing Law Studies. Also he's the same age as me."
I just waved my hand, while holding back my disguise. I didn't need to talk, otherwise the similarity of our voices will cause confusion.
After 15 minutes, we left to the crime scene... R.Corps' main branch, which Flint works at.
"Say, do you know the prosecutor? Seems like you were associated with each other."
"Oh, Coal? Yeah, we go all the way back. We studied at high school, and then at university. We only studied together there for a short time, but he seems to hold a grudge against me. He went to study as a prosecutor, and I went to study as a defense attorney."
Coal and I were friends since High School. It turned out that just like myself, there are also other versions of people I've known, if not most of them.
"Coal....huh."
"You know him?"
"Nah, it's nothing."
The other Ore doesn't need to know.
"Alright. We've arrived! In this floor, we'll be able to enter the main apartment. We've been granted permission to check Mr. Wake's desk."
There was a detective waiting for us.
"Good evening, Ore! We've finished to scan the fingerprints, and as it turns out, it doesn't belong to the defendant!"
"Good to hear! So-"
"However...it's very unfortunate, but I cannot provide more information. Coal instructed me to bring him the evidence. I'm sorry..."
"It's ok. I'll turn things around next week! Me and my associate will come again tomorrow. We need to ask Mr. R a few questions..."
"Sure thing. I need to report to the agency. Don't let Coal know I'm helping you a little.."
The detective went ahead, and we've prepared to leave as well.
Lawyer Ore sleeps in his office. So weird, but understandable.
"ARE YOU ONLY EATING POTATO CHIPS!!?! YOU NEED TO EAT PROPERLY FROM NOW ON!! SUCH A LAWYER YOU ARE!"
"Hahaha, I guess so. I haven't eaten a decent meal in 3 weeks."
"THAT'S TERRIBLE-"
My stomach started to growl.
"....We should order something for delivery."
".....Sure."
We ate like kings. Meat, sweets, we enjoyed the many flavors of delicious food.
For me, only half a day have passed since I began my journey, but just like any person, eating properly is something that I was bound to follow....I still am. After all, I like eating.
In the next morning, feeling the back pain due to sleeping on his couch, I discovered a powerful impact of...rivalry?
"We need to talk, Ore."
"Coal..."
[Writer's Note: This is a comedy novel.]
"Ore..."
[Writer's Note: I REPEAT, THIS IS A COMEDY NOVEL!]
"..."
[Writer's Note: ...]
"....Do you have something to eat, Ore?"
"For crying out loud, Coal. Sure, I have leftovers from last night."
"I'd like to grab a bite of that meat, Ore."
"Coal. My associate is still here."
"What's the problem? He won't mind me.. right?"
(Now that's the Coal I remember. Looks like no matter what he'll do in life...)
Every version of Coal have something in common....
(...Coal is always full of misunderstandings.)
