A new world

I clashed my head against the wall in disbelief. It hurt…I’m not dreaming!?

I can’t believe this.

“Lady Ophelia, please don’t do that to your poor forehead!”

A young girl in a maid costume tried stopping me, she was persistent and very careful to not touch me.

I looked around the room I was in. To start off, the room was large with many unnecessary furniture. Such as a lady’s makeup table, or a few tables or couches laying around. No, the place did not look tacky. It was well decorated, in fact. And that’s how big the room was.

Light shone through the sheer curtains and reflected with this gold themed bedroom, I could only dream of seeing a sight like this.

However, this isn’t my room. The bed, the tables, none of this was mine. Not even the face seen at the reflection on the mirror.

When I had woken up, I thought all of this was just a dream. Turned out everything is real, but where exactly am I? I tried recalling everything in my previous life as Ophelia Bellamy and NOT as Ophelia Winston.

And then it hit me. This…is a reverse harem Otome game that my best friend used to play! I can remember everything vividly, of how she was so obsessed with this game to the point she devoted herself to cancel all our hangout plans until she finished it to the end.

I remember hating that game because it felt like it was taking my best friend away. Kind of silly, I know.

I knew the antagonist well, Ophelia. We had the same names so it was easy for me to remember. It got to the point where I thought that my best friend would that pick that Ophelia over me. She has beautiful white locks and ocean blue eyes. Her skin was fair, and her lips were rosy.

She looked like an absolute beauty.

I can’t say I remember the storyline too well however. I was never interested in Otome games. Instead, I way more focused at becoming the best artist out there!

It was working out well…until it was not.

I do remember some scenes from the Otome game tho, I solely remember it was a reverse harem with 6 male leads chasing after this one girl named Naiveen. Ophelia was the antagonist, constantly getting in between Naiveen’s love life. But my best fried loved her the most. Why you might ask?

Because Ophelia’s backstory was tragic. And everything she did made sense.

“Miss, MISS! We should hurry and get treatment for you!”

Oh right…

I snapped back to what is now my reality. I guess the young girl wasn’t in a maid costume, and she was actually my maid. She looked flustered over the bump that started appearing on my forehead. I plopped on the bed.

“No need, thank you” the maid looked at me with widened eyes. I should’ve guessed that was the normal reaction after an antagonist shows her gratitude.

I glanced at the maid from head to toe. She looked nervous, and very young. She had lovely auburn hair, and the cutest freckles. She looked innocent and trustworthy, so I beckoned her over.

She moved forward and came to me with a bow, “yes miss?”

I gave her a look, which I assume she must’ve gotten scared of, for she looked like she was going to start crying any second. Ophelia Winston’s eyes did rather seem a bit cold, it’s understandable.

“What’s your name?” I gave her a smile, this scary face must’ve been too much for her to handle.

“M-my name? I don’t have one your grace” she hesitated. She doesn’t have a name? I see. Many personal maids receive names from their lords or ladies, and their name reflects on their personality. I don’t know what type of person she is yet, so I will just have to observe.

“How long have you been working for me?”

“Pardon?” She looked at me with a look that said, you’ve already forgotten?

“I was assigned just yesterday. Your ladyship must’ve forgotten.”

If I wanted to adjust to this new world, someone would have to know about my secret. But I can’t trust anyone here, at least not now. But I could use this maid to my advantage. Im sorry cute maid!

I got up and took the maid by her hand, she was a few inches shorter than me so it was easy to see her being so startled. “May I share a secret with you?”

The maid looked at me, her eyes softening. I don’t think she’s as scared as before.

“A few days past, I fell in a pond. The pond was rather deep, and so I was rescued by this charming young man,” the maid’s eyes glowed with curiosity like she was reading a fairytale. “However I lost many of my memory, and I tend to loose them often, so I don’t remember many things.” I explained it that way, so that she wouldn’t ask who that man was, or why I’ve come to forget her when she’s just come yesterday.

Of course it was all a lie, I can’t tell her the truth just yet.

“I’ll keep it a secret your grace! You can count on me!” She looked so happy I could trust her with something like this, I felt a little guilty inside. So as the most I could do, I went in for a hug. Startling the young teenager once again.

Yes, I’ve figured she’s no older than 18.

“Alissa,” I whispered. “I beg your pardon?” She looked like she had no idea what I was talking about.

I pulled away from the hug and sat on my bed once more, and gave her a warm smile. “Alissa is your new name, it means trustworthy and noble. Just like your character, do you like it?” I explained it to her in high hopes. For I had hoped for her to become a person I could trust in this world.

She smiled at me with glee, “I’m not deserving of such an honorable name, your grace! But I will accept it, thank you very much.” Suddenly tears flooded her eyes, I jumped from my bed and wiped her tears.

Was she that happy…?

I suddenly felt a dire desire to protect this girl…no, to protect Alissa. That is her name.

“Alissa, you mustn’t cry,” I was no good at cheering people up. Or making them stop crying, so I panicked a little.

She finally stopped and bowed to me, a graceful bow. “After being formally acquainted with you, I will be in your care. Please take care of me your grace!”

I gave her a genuine smile, something I don’t do often. What an adorable girl.
