You admired the city and sipped on your drink and for once in your life you felt expensive. People say money can’t buy happiness, but if you could see this view every night with this alcohol you’d be pretty damn happy.
“You know why I made you stay late right?” His voice caught you off guard, you had forgot he was there with you.
The new subject made you frown. A few hours ago you were pissed off, but the longer you thought of it the more embarrassed you were by the situation.
You nodded and chewed on your lip nervously. You examined his expression expecting it to cold, but found it to be as relaxed as it was before. “I understand I shouldn’t have spoken to you in such a manor. I spoke out in anger because I thought you were having my coworker babysit me because I’m a woman.”
He nodded like he expected what you were going to say. “People can say whatever they want about my work ethics, but I am not a sexist.”
You nodded. You had to admit your office was pretty diverse, and you had never seen or heard of him being prejudice. It was your past experiences that made you assume the worst of him.
“I made you stay late because you challenged my authority in front of everyone. If I let you get away with it then the rest of the conference room might think they can speak to me however they want. However, I don’t want my scolding to inhibit you from voicing your concerns to me from now on.”
You were about to ask if that’s why he invited you up. Because he felt bad about the scene earlier and for making you stay late. You thought he might want a chance to explain himself so you wouldn’t feel like you couldn’t come to him with problems.
However, he spoke before you could, “Do you like working here?”
You closed your open mouth, his question catching you off guard. “Of course, it’s great.” You explained honestly. “I feel pride in telling people I work at this company. It’s one of the most respected in the industry right now.”
He did a slow nod as he processed the information. Abruptly, he stood up from his desk and sauntered over to the wall behind him. Sticking his hands in his pockets as he admired the view of the city.
You had finished eating and drank enough to be tipsy already. You weren’t sure how long you had been there for, but you still hadn’t finished your reports and you weren’t sure if you could anymore with the alcohol in you. He was oddly silent and it was building this tension in you, so you stood up too. “I should go.”
He turned around quickly from where he was facing the window. You shifted your stance as his gaze drifted down your body before landing on your feet. You looked down at where he was staring and noticed your lack of shoes.
