The Ninety-fourth Day

Hajite met up with Nishira at the usual restaurant to buy their food.

“Where did you go yesterday?” Nishira crossed her arms in disappointment, “I tried finding you, but you seem to have left early.”

Hajite took a bite of his chicken for breakfast before he wiped his mouth with a tissue. “Had some cleaning duties.”

Nishira placed her hands on her chin, “Did the principal ask you to do it?”

Hajite nods in response and Nishira sighs. “You could have told me right after that,” Nishira pouted, “instead of disappearing right after class. I was about to ask you…” Nishira’s voice trailed off.

Hajite leaned toward her. “Ask me what?”

Nishira only blushed and squirmed in response, and Hajite did not push any further. It was too trivial for him.

“Anyhow, I won’t be fighting Fujima anymore,” Hajite sighs in relief, “fewer troubles for me too.”

They finished their breakfast and headed for the school gates.

Hajite looked towards Nishira, “Nishira-san,” He took a deep breath while Nishira looked attentively, “Would you like to come over this Sunday?”

Nishira’s eyes go wide in surprise, “Wait, I was supposed to ask you tha-” Nishira covered her mouth before she finishes.

Hajite sneers, “Oh?” Hajite prepared his ID out of his pocket, “So, would you come?”

Nishira nodded her head, “Yes! I am happy to!”

They passed the gate after they presented their IDs before a figure approached them. “Hey, you.” An indignant voice called out. Hajite looked up to identify the face. A teenager, who has dressed up a grade lower, points at Hajite. “Were you the one that messed with my sister?”

Hajite tilted his head. “Sister?”

The teenager menacingly walks towards Hajite. “Don’t play dumb. You tried to do something with my sister,” he raises his fists, “you scum!.”

The offended’s fists swung above Hajite’s head as he effortlessly dodged it. “Woah, hold on a second.” Hajite outstretched his hands in surrender.

The attacker only gritted his teeth in extreme anger and swung another punch for Hajite’s head. “But you didn’t hold a second for my sister!” He says as he goes for a right uppercut.

Hajite catches the right uppercut with his left hand before it lands at his chin, and he pulls the attacker’s right hand towards him as he used his right elbow to strike the attacker’s chest. Because of this, the attacker falls to the ground writhing in pain as he holds his chest. “Y—you… little…” The attacker was brought up by two of his comrades.

“Hajite-san, you must not continue.” Nishira attempted to remedy the situation.

“It was only self-defense,” Hajite whispered.

With his left arm to his chest, the offended pointed at Hajite. “I’m going to report this.”

Hajite looked away from him and spoke, “I do not know your sister, and you have the wrong person,” Hajite passed by the teenager, “Excuse me.”

The teenager grabbed Hajite by the collar of his uniform. “I won’t let you go on free! I shall teach you a lesson!” He prepared to attack Hajite’s waist, but Nishira separates them both.

“He did nothing wrong! He is not your guy!” Nishira with her hands raised to the side blocks Hajite from the attacker.

“Oh? You are defending this man? Tell me, did he blackmail you so he would be protected?” The attacker clenched his fist in front of his face.

“No! Absolutely not! He would never do that!” Nishira shouted with all her might, “We only met two days ago!”

The attacker shooked his head in disapproval, “I see, so trash does really pile up,” At this, Hajite’s eyes go wide open at a realization. The attacker once again approached the two with his fists raised, “I will teach the lesson to both of you!” He swings a right hook at Nishira but Hajite pushed Nishira aside and Hajite takes the punch to his face causing him to fall to the ground.

“Hajite!” Nishira screamed.

“Oh? A white knight, rather, a black knight.” the attacker says with a grim expression.

A red-haired girl entered the scene and slapped the attacker. “What do you think you are doing!?” A familiar voice yells at his face. “Why did you punch him!?”

“Because he violated you,” the teenager replies.

“Haven’t I told you, it was my fault? It was all a misunderstanding!” Kiena threw her arms around, “Now you should help him up and apologize.”

“Did he threaten you?” the teenager spoke in his same grim tone, “Did he blackmail you so that you would protect him?”

Kiena slapped him again. “Mi-to!”She shouts, “I am going to kill you!”

The teenager’s face grew pale, “I was wrong!?”

Kiena elbowed the boy’s shoulder. “Yes! Now go and apologize!”

The boy gritted his teeth, “As long as I live, I will never apologize!”

“You had better apologize or I am going to kill you!” Kiena pointed at him.

The attacker yelped and fled the scene.

Kiena helped Hajite up on his feet and promptly bowed, “I am sorry for my brother’s actions.”

Hajite fixed his collar and spoke. “It is alright,” he assures, “I was not hurt at all. It is more important to check on him instead.”

Kiena stood straight and clicked her tongue in response, “No, my brother is stupid anyway.”

“Mi…to…” Hajite mumbled, “Mito, was that his name?”

“Yes,” Kiena bowed at him again, “Mito Fujima is his name.”

Hajite reached out with his hand and patted Kiena’s head, “What are you bowing for?”

Kiena jolted in surprise and quickly removes Hajite’s hand, “W—w—what do you think you’re doing?” Kiena’s face turned red and she trembled.

Hajite realized what he was doing and turned red in embarrassment, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”

“You idiot!!” Kiena shouted and ran towards the school building.

Hajite covered his face in pure embarrassment. “What the hell was I doing?” He thought.

“You!” Nishira complained softly and snatches Hajite’s right arm, “You are getting all close with her but not me!”

Hajite ignored her comment but made his way while Nishira kept her arm around Hajite’s. Because of this, the students looked on and whispered amongst each other.

The class bell ringed signaling the time for lunch, and Hajite and Nishira sat at their usual spot. Moments later, Kiena and Mito approach the table.

“I’m sorry!” Mito bowed at a perfect right angle towards Hajite, “I completely misunderstood the situation!”

Hajite stood up and went over to Mito, “It’s alright. Next time, don’t do it again.”

“I will!” Mito responds sharply.

“Um…” Kiena fidgeted, “May we eat lunch with you here?”

“Sure.” “Absolutely not!” Hajite and Nishira’s answers contradict each other.

Hajite faced Nishira and asked, “Why not?”

“B—b—because…” Nishira searched for an answer, “because they would only hurt you again!” She pointed at the two visitors.

“Alright, you may.” Hajite motioned for them to sit down.

“Wait, what?” Nishira stared at Hajite, “y—you shouldn’t…”

“The more friends, the better,” Hajite said to Nishira.

“B—but, but!” Nishira resisted.

Hajite smiles scarily, “Right?”

“Eek! A black aura is behind Hajite-san!” Nishira flinched, and the three laughed.
