Episode 4: Forget or I scream

It’s almost 4 o’clock, where is he? I thought he was someone who kept his promises or for that matter his word. I guess I was wrong about him. But then again, it’s not like he was late the other times. But why did he have to be late today? When I wanted to show him this . . .

‘Hey Emily, your boyfriend Collin is here’, yelled her little sister who answered the door. Emily runs downstairs as quickly as possible before her little sister says anything “stupid and bothersome” to Collin. Emily can’t even think of the many ways that little twerp could ruin her social life. Her little sister named Janisson, Janis for short, has always been the spoiled little brat in the family. She’s about 2 years younger than Emily, not much of a difference in age. Emily also has an older brother 6 years older than her. He ran away from home when Emily was 11 years old.

‘Get away from that door you twerp’. ‘You can’t make me even if you we’re much older and taller than me!’ Collin came inside and waved with his hand at Emily not uttering a single phrase.

‘You’re late’ said Emily as she waved back at him with a grin. Collin, who didn’t even remember he was supposed to be here at 30 minutes past 4 looked at her a little confused. Emily grabbed his hand and pulled him upstairs to her room as Janis kept teasing Emily with that annoying thing she always says when she sees Colling and Emily holding hands :’Eewwww, first comes love, than comes marriage, then comes….’

Emily closes the door behind her before Janis could finish her little song of mockery. ‘So, why did you expect me to be here?’ asked Collin. ‘You said I was late?’

‘Yes and you’ll buy me ice-cream later than’, said Emily in way she almost laughed at Collin his forgetfulness. ‘Oh, now I remember what was so “important” that I forgot, sorry’.

‘That’s okay, just give me in something else in return for the time you’ve lost’.

‘Yeah, about that, something to Zander after school’. ‘That’s why I forgot about coming over here’, said Collin. ‘Oh, what kind of trouble did Zander get into this time?’, said Emily sounding rather disappointed in Zander than surprised. ‘It certainly isn’t the first time he got himself into trouble with teachers’.

‘Uhm, it’s not a teacher this time Emily, something else happened this time’, said Collin hinting Emily with his way of speaking that it’s something much more serious. ‘Oh, okay, tell me what happened then, don’t keep stalling by saying how serious it is, tell me!’

Collin then told Emily everything from start to finish. Emily listened without making any interrupting comments. ‘Zander got himself into trouble alright, trouble that might end up getting worse and worse’. Emily then asks: ‘Do you think it’s possible Zander was in trouble long before this incident, but he never told any of us? However, it’s never happened before where he didn’t tell us something that’s troubling him’.

‘That is possible since Zander always tells us what’s on his mind, but these circumstances are different since there is no teacher involved in this matter’, says Collin, thinking like a teenage detective for a journalist school paper. Then he starts to think and speak at the same time, another famous moment of his: ‘Here’s what I think’.

Zander, the talkative and extroverted guy who can’t keep his mouth shut, was walking in the school halls after the school bell rang when he overheard a conversation. A conversation about two people. Let’s call them student X and student Y. The people talking about student X and Y are students Z and Q. Zander couldn’t help himself and joined the conversation. Or should I call it a gossip? After showing his curiosity to students Z and Q, they started telling him about students X and Y. After a while, Zander started making comments as well. Then suddenly Zander starts being the only one talking about these two students, who just so happened to be passing by. They overhear him and do not like what Zander is saying the other students. They think Zander is the one spreading rumors. The students Z and Q notice the students X and Y and keep quiet as Zander, turned with his back towards students X and Y, keeps on talking. The students X and Y decide to confront him and Zander. These two students happen to be the type of students who don’t take any crap from other. It’s a possibility that these two students are bullies and that they see Zander as a threat to their reputation. Bullies usually bully others to feel in power, to feel like they are above others. So any threat that could result in losing power over people, they’ll confront in order to maintain that power.

Zander, surprised by the sudden confrontation, decides to try and make a run for it as he realizes that it looks like he’s spreading rumors about students X and Y. He realizes that these students are bullies and he knows subconsciously that he’s in trouble even though his actions don’t lead towards it directly. He realizes he’ll get the blame even though students Q and Z are the ones to take it. The bullies then take action before Zander can run away. Zander gets a knuckle sandwich in the stomach, resulting in him coughing up blood. The bullies, shocked at the sight of Zander coughing up blood, thinking that they have gone too far make a run for it when they spot a person coming towards them. That person happened to be Alexis who did not hesitate to call for help. Or scream for help like she was the one suffering from the pain. Almost as if she was one with Zander. I believe it’s because she’s in lo-

‘Okay you can stop right there Collin, lalalalalala, I didn’t hear you say anything’, Emily put her index fingers in her ears while saying this, being childish. I suddenly get a picture in my head of how Emily might have been as a little kid.

‘Sorry, didn’t mean to speak my mind that far’, I said in a humorous way, yet still expressing an apology. ‘It’s okay, but I have to say, you sure know how to come up with a theory Collin’. Emily gives me a punch to the shoulder, but not the hard version, the soft one that shows in a comical way that she’s okay with my behavior. ‘So you think these two students, X and Y, are responsible for Zander his injury?’

‘Yes, and the other students, Q and Z know who these two students are, meaning-Emily interrupts me and says: ‘These two students are they key to finding out who students X and Y are!’

‘Yes, but we can also ask Zander, I mean, he saw all of their faces’.

‘True, but according to your theory, the students Q and Z stopped talking as soon as they saw the students X and Y’. ‘They were also the ones who were gossiping about students X and Y in the first place, meaning they know these students better than Zander does, so I believe asking Zander who these two students are and then asking them who students X and Y are is a better alternative’.

Emily is quite the detective herself. Maybe she picked up a thing or two while listening to me, although I do not credit myself for it. ‘True, yet it wouldn’t do any harm to ask Zander if he knows who students X and Y are’.

‘No of course it wouldn’t, just saying that the students Q and Z might give us more information since they know so much about the students X and Y that they were gossiping about them’. ‘You have a good point there’, I said. ‘But now that I think of it, shouldn’t we ask Zander why he was coughing blood in the first place?’

‘It could be that those two students fleeing the scene were actually two students who were going to get help’. As I say this, I realize that this could make my entire theory collapse. Why didn’t I think of this before?

‘You sure are a strange fellow Collin’, said Emily snickering. Trying her best not to laugh. ‘I guess I forgot to think about the simple things before jumping to conclusions that require heavy thinking’, I said suppressing my own laughter.

‘Anyway, enough of that, let’s play some Mario kart and Legends of Zelda, I’ve been dying to that with you now that it’s Friday’. By the way, you’ll have to buy me ice-cream later of the ice-cream truck comes by, do you have any cash on you?’ I check my pockets and find some loose change: ‘Yeah, I have some’. ‘Good, now let’s play then!’
