Urgency

I have to do it today. I have to read the journal today. I missed my chance the other day and I haven't been able to read it but maybe today I will be able to. School was about to end and when the bell rang I got up and grabbed my bag.

"Hey, Leo."

I looked up. It was a girl. She had blond hair that flowed down to her waist and brown eyes. What was her name again? Angeline?

"Yes? Did you need anything from me?"

"Do you know where Skyler lives? She's not here today so I thought I could give her some notes unless you want to do it."

"No. No, it's fine. I'll write down her address for you."

I looked over at her desk. I've been avoiding her since then and I didn't notice that she wasn't there. I gave her the paper and headed for the door.

"I have something to do so I'll see you Monday."

I rushed out and was about to exit the school when I felt a hand grab me. I was pulled back and almost slipped but I was supported back up by another hand. I turned around. It was Mike.

"What do you want? I need to go home. I have something to do."

"It's just... can we talk for a bit?"

I was pretty reluctant but I felt like he had something important he wanted to say. I sighed and looked at him.

"Fine but only for a bit. I have something important to do."

He looked relieved. We walked to the park and sat down at the swings.

"So what do want to say."

"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry but I can't see you and Skyler like this anymore."

"Like what?"

"Like how you guys avoid each other. Like how Skyler clearly likes you but you don't get it. How you guys don't understand the situation. Everything."

"I'm sorry but she likes me? You must be joking. She's been avoiding me that much and you think she likes me?"

"I know she does."

I scoffed at him. There was no way anything he said was true. If she liked me, she would've tried to help me instead of avoiding me and keeping secrets.

"I have to go. I'm not listening to this anymore."

" Leo! Please! Just listen to me!"

"I did. I listened to you and I don't believe it. I'm leaving. I have something to do."

I got up and tried to walk away but he grabbed my right wrist. Tightly.

"Why don't you understand? She wants to get your memories back but she's just...conflicted right now."

"Let go. Mike that hurts."

"Not until you listen to what I have to say."

"I did listen! I listened already! If any of that were true then why is she hiding? Why is she not helping? What is she conflicted about? I don't know what to do. I don't even know who I am. Please just let go."

My arm was getting numb and I was starting to get dizzy but Mike didn't loosen his grip.

"Just go and see her. Meet with her and talk it over."

"Mike I can't-"

"You need to understand-"

"MIKE LET GO ALREADY!"

He let my wrist go in surprise and I held it to my chest trying to catch my breath and waited for the headache to subside.

"I need to go. We'll talk another day. Not now."

I grabbed my bag and ran home holding onto my wrist which was red and swollen. I needed to go home. I needed to read that journal. I repeated it over and over again as I sprinted back with sweat dripping down my neck and my hand cradling my wrist.
