Love and Sorrow

I can't do this anymore. I just can't. I decided that today I wasn't going to school. I was always home alone after my parents divorced. I had decided that I would live alone and not choose because I thought I had Leo. Now I had no one. I stuffed my face and hugged my bear. It a present from Leo for my birthday last year. I could never forget that day. My birthday was on a weekend and Leo had invited me out. We went to the arcade and he tried so hard to win a stuffed animal for me. Then he left me for a while and came back with the bear. It was a brown bear that was as big as he was. I asked him where he got it and he told me it was a secret and winked. I sighed and got up. I walked over to my desk and searched for the letter. It was in between the book I had read when I first met Leo. It was a letter from his father but this letter wasn't addressed to anyone specifically. Mrs. Tanner had passed it on to me but I never opened it. But this time, I felt an urge to open it and read the contents inside. I carefully tore off the edge and took it out.

To the person reading this letter,

If you are reading this then I have already passed away leaving both my beloved wife and son behind. I entrusted this letter to my wife in case anything were to occur. This is to be read by someone who cares dearly for Leo. He is a reckless boy but kind. If the person who reads this letter is someone who cares for him as much as I do, then I know he is in good hands. I fear that once I am gone, he will meet some trouble. That child is simple-minded and does not deal well with sorrow. He is emotional and tries to hide it even when I already know what has happened. He will try to smile but I don't believe that it will help him in any way. If the person reading this could please stay by his side and help him I would be able to let out a sigh of relief. Thank you and I hope that you will help Leo in the future.

Leo's father, Jackson Tanner*

I put the letter down slowly and turned to the mirror. Tears were slowly forming and I wiped them away as quick as I could. I heard the doorbell ring and composed myself before heading to the entrance.

“Hello?”

“Hey is this Skyler?”

“Yes. Who is it?”

“I’m Angeline Wood from your class. I came by to give you some worksheets and notes.”

This was odd, I never talked to her before and yet she came to my house. I opened the door and let her in. She walked in and took off her shoes. I led her to the living room and told her to sit down. We both sat down.

"Oh sorry. Here are the notes and homework."

"You didn't have to go through the trouble. I could've gotten it tomorrow from the teacher."

"Oh, I asked Leo for your address cause I had something I wanted to ask you."

She talked to Leo. I wanted to know how he was doing but maybe it was something I shouldn't be interfering with anymore.

"Did you guys have a fight?"

"Eh? Um."

"Sorry sorry. It's just... you look really sad and Leo was kinda moody? I don't know what happened but I didn't want to leave it like that. Not when you used to be such good friends."

"Why did you come here today? Did Leo say anything?"

"No. I just wanted to help."

She looked like she wanted to help but could I trust her? For the second time in my life, I decided that I would fully trust her and decided to tell the truth. Maybe it was a gut feeling but I felt that this girl could actually help me. I sighed and looked at her.

"Can you really help me?"

"If you want me to."

I took a deep breath and started from the top. From the beginning when it all began.
