That morning during school, Mike came over and confronted Leo. I don't know where he took Leo but I knew that I shouldn't have told him about the situation. Leo came back by himself after a while and sat down. I did my best not look at him. I needed to stop avoiding him. Avoiding doesn't change the situation. I'll tell him everything if I can, as much as I can. I waited until school ended and rushed out to search for him. He wasn't in his class so I ran to the front gate. He wasn't there either. Maybe he left already. I walked back to my class to grab my things. As I reached for the door, someone walked by me. I turned around.
"Leo?"
I found him. He stopped and looked at me.
"Yeah? Do you need something?"
"C-could I talk to you for a bit."
I opened the door to my class and walked in. I turned around and sighed in relief.
"I need to tell you something. I'm... I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For not being truthful. For avoiding you. For everything."
He stood there and for a second he looked hurt. He ran his fingers through his hair and fiddled with his bangs. I couldn't help it and giggle escaped my mouth.
"What? What is it? Why are you laughing?"
"No, I'm sorry. It's just, you still have that habit."
"What habit?"
"Whenever you get nervous. You used to always ruffle and play with your hair."
"Really?"
He looked less nervous and he put his hand down.
"So do you know who I am."
"Yeah. Yeah I do. You... you were my best friend. My only friend I guess."
He looked at me in disbelief.
"Then why were you avoiding me? Did I do something?"
"No. I just didn't want to get to close and well, there were a lot of reasons."
I couldn't say it. I couldn't tell him that he kissed me. I couldn't tell him that I knew what
Mike and him were doing. I just couldn't.
"What reasons? Why won't you tell me? Were you really my friend?"
"I was- I mean I am."
"Then why won't you tell me? If you are my friend why won't you help me? Wouldn't you know the most? Even Mike said that you were my best friend."
He looked desperate. His eyes clinging onto something, something that I didn't have: hope.
"If you have nothing else to say then I'm leaving."
"No. I'm sorry but I can't. Not yet."
"Then when! When will you tell me? Why did you even call me here even though you won't tell me anything? You're the only one who knows the most about me. At least tell me why you're avoiding me."
"Its... complicated."
"Fine. I'm leaving."
He walked out of the room and slammed the door. Maybe it would've been better if I never said anything at all. I looked out the window and the water on the tree traveled from the leaves and slowly dropped to the ground.
