Reaching and Reaching

The shock hit me pretty hard but now that I knew I was going to die, I didn't really feel anything. I didn't have any memories so I don't think that I would feel sad or anything. I didn't even know who I was in the past anyways or the people I used to know. But I did feel that maybe other people would sad but I just didn't know who. A month after the hospital visit, I came back to school and everything was normal, or as normal as when I was in the state I was in. Then I saw Micheal walking up to me.

"Hey Leo. You remember your promise?"

"Um... Oh yeah I do. But what should I do?"

" Just go up to her and tell her to go with you somewhere on Sunday. Then I'll take it from there."

"Ok."

I got up from my seat and saw Skyler sitting by herself reading a book. The cover was tattered and you couldn't read the title but she looked happy reading it. I took a deep breath and walked up to her.

"Hey. Can I ask you something?"

She flinched and looked up. She seemed weary almost scared of me. She put the book down and looked away.

"What is it? Do you need something from me?"

She spoke in a cold voice not looking at me but her hands were shaking. Did I do something to make her angry?

"Um no. Um I was wondering if you were free on Sunday?"

"I am. What about it?"

"Um could you meet me at the park near here? Um I think it was Cherry Park? I have something I want to ask you."

This time, she whirled her head towards me and looked at me in the eye. Then she sighed and looked away.

"Sure. Sunday right? I'll be waiting."

I took a sigh of relief. Then I walked back to Micheal and gave him the thumbs up. Was this really the right thing to do? My heart was aching and I didn't know why but I didn't want Micheal and Skyler to meet up. But at this point it was already too late.

That night I had the dream again. A girl with a mask was walking down a sandy path. This time there was no shadow but the girl was walking further ahead. I chased after thinking that I could finally reach her but each step I took, she seemed to get further away. She stopped and turned around. Her mask covered her face and I couldn't see behind it. Once again, she beckoned towards me. I reached out my hand. I was walking, then I slowly sped up until it was a full on sprint towards her with my hands stretched out but no matter how hard I ran, no matter how hard I was breathing, I could not reach her. I stopped and looked down. My legs were dissolving, turning into dust. I reached my hands out again and my body disintegrated. I woke up with my hand in the air and tears down my face.
