The dining table has always been at the same place. There’re six chairs and five were we ever. One seat was always untaken. Guests come, that’s exceptional. Experience of eating with strangers was never good. The four of this home is my comfort zone.
Uncle Milan and Hashu aunty sits together. Sofie and I use to sit facing them. Maria sits at the right corner’s chair as if it’s a royal chair but never behave and the opposite seat has always been suffering emptiness. But today the situation is different.
How can Maria offer my seat to Farabi? Slouching like a sloth that boy. The lonely seat is still untaken and waiting for me. Now I have to sit facing that nuisance girl. At least Sofie can sense it and she does. We talk without words, eyes to eyes,
‘Farabi, have you informed your father that you reached?’ Sofie asks,
‘Yeah’ in a scary low tone, stopped swallowing like a calf, counting each rice on the plate.
‘You are really a brave boy. How did you dare to come alone this long? Your parents could manage at least drop you here.’ Hashu aunty could ask him more about this. In reality, is it possible to be such irresponsible parents!
Farabi’s cold, has nothing to reply, must be hiding something.
‘How’s your last academic result?’ Uncle Milan asks
‘Pretty good, I’ll show the mark sheet later.’ and confusingly smiles.
‘You finish? Now wash your hand. You need sound sleep at the night before exam.’
‘Where’d I sleep?’
`I think Zahid would love to share with you.’ Uncle Milan is expecting my affirmation. I cough
‘Don’t bother Zahid. He is a super boring boy. You can still feel lonely when he is around. If you feel alike, just call me, I’ll be there. We'll have fun.’ Maria…
So everyone’s ready to enter at my place…
I don’t feel like eat anymore.
‘O my God! How do you manage living in such a store room?’
How dare the wizard say that! He says my place a store room!
‘You are not bound to stay here, may leave anytime.’
I should be ruder, scream as crazy as I go inside but
‘Actually, Zahid is a reader, his book shelfs have blocked most of the space, that’s why it looks so congested. But everything is clean. i hope you can adjust.’ I don’t know why Sofie’s explaining.
Such a demanding natured boy! Now sleeping like an ugly pig. I wish he fails tomorrow’s exam. I will never sleep beside him. Better spend rest of the night at the roof.
The garret is loaded with waste and old furniture. I’ll manage Sofie to shift me here sooner, can’t live with that wimpy kid for a day. He doesn’t look calm and cool the way he’s acting to be, must have secrets to reveal.
But I don't care. He can go anywhere in the hell. I just want my privacy back, that's it.
