Episode 5: Martyr Love

I was staring at the sky while waiting for the plane to descend at the Airport. I’ve heard the Pilot’s voice in the speaker, “Ms. Monique, will shortly arrive in China at 30 minutes. Please fasten and secure your seatbelt”.

I smiled and nodded to the flight stewardess. Yes, I am boarding a private jet plane. Everyone was staring at me as I  was escorted with a special treatment at the airport. For those who knew, I am famously known as ‘The Companion’ not even a mistress. I honestly do not know how should I feel, should I be disgraced or something?

But I am positive this time that Cai’s attitude is no longer the same before. He is giving me warm expressive eyes these days. Yeah, talking yourself out of it. You have been pathetic for all these years.

Was it for almost 10 years now that I waited for him, warm his bed every time he wants to? But does he really want to? He even reached the point to preserve his sperm cells in the hospital bank as it was ordered by his mother and I ended up doing the same. At first, it was just a joke to join him but later, he said that I might want to reconsider. If it reached the point that I will not find a boyfriend, perhaps we can have our eggs joined and have a surrogate mother. He, of course, clarified that everything was just purely business and with the business, he is going through so much. Who knows if he can have this chance?

I met Cai through my mother. He was already a prodigy in the law industry especially on the International side and who would have thought that my mother will face one. We are just living peacefully in Washington and even though they are not together, Father comes home from time to time to visit me. Every time he visits me, it was a show.  A lot of bodyguards and looks a cavalry. Only to find out, my father has a big empire of the gang in Japan and I was one of his children.

 At first, I do not really mind, and I have constant communication with my brother and sisters. However, father just died and with the traditional law, we were supposed to go to Japan to visit him. However, the eldest brother forbids us. I thought he was stopping us because of father’s money and fame. I just wanted to see him on his last day and burial, he might not be an ideal man, but he was a good father.

However, after his burial, our eldest brother sends us a video message saying that our uncle challenged the successorship though he already has a gist that father was poisoned. And, now he has put into a position to fight a duel. Yes, a typical Japanese way.

We told him to give it up and mother even invited him to stay with us and not to look back. But he was so stubborn. It was a legacy left by our father to him and he needs to win to protect his family.

Unfortunately, my brother lose and died. However, as part of his message is to keep the video safe and when the time comes. We should report this to the international police.

Our father was a gentleman and despite of our dark background, they keep hidden and been doing legit business for the past years. However, some of the relatives do not like it as their power became limited and they were bound to follow the restrictions. And you know the rest.

I am the left survivor of, “Yumigami Clan” as my father’s direct descendant. My mother met Cai in those dark days as he was a promising international lawyer. He was just a new lawyer and what was my mother thinking at those times, however, he was able to protect us till my mother was gunned down.

And the succession was transferred to me as the sole heir. Cai was able to get a hold of my uncle and he was put to prison for multiple deaths of my family. I was the heir granted with the power and wealth, I really do not know

what to do and I do not want my kids to feel the fear the same way in the future.

His family temporarily adopted me as I navigated my College days. At the same time, all the money, riches and house of Yumigami Clan were put to stocks, buying companies to this and that. Nothing is left and each family is given money to start a business. Father’s henchmen were given a hefty sum as well to start a new. Some wanted to go to other countries, and we allow them, the Freedom.

Though some decided to stay in the dark and they are not a hindrance for me to worry. With Cai’s protection, I was treated like a princess.

And with Cai’s kisses, I really thought that I will be his Queen. Our friendship was put to strain and he even forced me to be removed from his home because I am acting his Queen.

I thought he would really leave me at that time, but he did not, he drops by to my place and even sleeps. He even has a few clothes in my dressing cabinet and a lot of moments and every time he walks away, I cannot help but cry.

 I do not want to be sad and I know that no matter what I do, I could not replace the girl. I never really knew her, and the name became a taboo in the house. And, every time I asked Cai he would only respond “are you going to

turn to one of those girls who thinks I am so broken and turned to a **** boy?”…after that incident, I never asked him. I want to be the first person that he can open rather than to hide it. So, I let him **** all around and just wait every night as to when he will come back.

As if I have the right or entitled.

 With that, I keep my days busy and focus on my craft. I progress and made many projects that win an award. My concept is always soulful and captivates a broken-hearted person or someone that yearns sincere love. I was

surprised that I was invited to audition with this famous lingerie that will open a commercial show in China as part of the marketing of their first store. At first, I just accepted the invitation and gather all my portfolios. I took the

opportunity to keep myself occupied as Cai is busy with someone or work. Little did I know, I was already the chosen director of the Company.

It is just three months of shooting, directing, and all the glamour. I need the time away from Cai so that he can realize that no matter how I love him. I can have my own life and maybe he will realize what I am to him. I have

not seen Cai for almost 3 months and to add these another 3 months, it will be a total of 6 months.

I signed the contract right away, there is no turning back. I need to make him feel that there is “No Monique” waiting for him. I called Cai right away on his direct line and he picks up in the first ring.

 “What is it?” I sighed deeply and heavily,  the direct line was supposed to be for emergency. But for the past years, I have been using the line to at least talk to him. Remind him, that I am here, just here waiting for you.

So, pathetic and looser. When can I give up my love for him? It has been so long, and I want to love and be loved too. I need that feeling of someone holding me, protecting me, and loving me. Was it too much to ask?

“Are you okay”, I heard his question again in the other line and I answered back, “Yes, I am okay. I did not expect you will answer on the first ring"

Cai sighed and responded, “How could I not? aside from you paying our services. I worry and I am not that cold-hearted. I told you many times, to call my mobile number and not the emergency line”

I responded back, “But, you never responded. How I am supposed to get your attention?”

“Why would I answer your nonsense calls. You know that I am a busy person and you could just wait in your apartment”

I was on the verge of crying; I do not want to have a row with him. My temper just blows off the last 3 months ago because of jealousy. At that time, he does not understand why I keep on pestering, scolding, and bad-mouthing him.

I heard his voice again, “Okay, I am coming to your apartment”.

One hour later, Cai is already inside the apartment. I prepared the best meal and he ate everything. I know he loves my cooking. He looks at me and said,

“So, this is your emergency? Getting me fat”

I responded back, “I really hope so, but I know you can survive for three months”

“What do you mean”

“I auditioned and this famous Allure Lingerie and hired me as their director. They will be opening a big store in China and they planned for massive marketing strategy”

“China for three months?”

“Yes, is there a problem”. I was really hoping he would stop me. I will drop everything for him.

But he just gives me this warm expression and said “Finally, you are

really becoming a star. I am so proud of you. Why don’t you join me with my private jet….2 weeks from now?”

“You are also going back to China?” My heart suddenly accelerated; his ex-girlfriend is still there.

“Now that my international law firm business is a success, I want to branch out to China. After all, that was part of my original plan”

“But your ex-girlfriend”

“what about her, again???”

“I mean, what if you meet her?”

“Then, I’ll say hi. We’ve both moved on with our lives. I think it is fair to leave all behind. Don’t you think?”

I was so lost that I did not know what to say.

He started to lay out his plan for his visit to China. Still, it would be difficult for me to visit him. What should I do, and I am quite sure that the girl will try to lure him? I ended blurting out, “I wanted to stay with you, please”

He was taken aback with my pleading and ended up responding, “okay”.

I was so excited with the plans and everything and it was only to find out that he went ahead earlier.

He just informed me when he was about to board the plane.

“Hey, I am calling you that I need to travel earlier, dad is pestering me with his supposed to be a seminar at school in China. I understand that this is just a 1 day ahead but no time to talk as this is so sudden. And my

hidden fame is no longer hidden.  The things you will do to your family and you do not have to worry, you can ride the jet tomorrow. By that time, it will be fixed and I will just have to go through with a commercial plane. Bye for now”

I burst into tears; I was at a fish market together with my best friend. She pitied me and was so ashamed at that time. I have money too; I am rich, and I am beautiful. Why I could not let him see me.

I cried the whole day, partied the whole night, and for some reason, I look at the photo of Director Cedric sent to me earlier, “the pain of a beauty”.

 It was almost 7 am that I arrived at the hotel that Cai and I are temporarily staying. I hurriedly registered my name and given the extra key. I rushed to our suite and to my surprise, I could not see him. Maybe he is still busy somewhere, I check all the rooms and found Cai sleeping with a woman. Was it her ex-girlfriend?

I can feel myself stop breathing and slowly closed the door, I sit in the living room looking at all the skyscrapers. I am staring into space again.

I did not notice that they are out now in the room and I stiffened listen to the woman’s giggle. Cai suddenly pulled my arm and as I turned my body to his direction, he hugs me so tightly and kissed my lips, “welcome home”.

The woman at shriek so loudly, grab her stuff and yelled at Cai from afar. He was just staring at her and kissed my cheeks again. It felt so justifying how he displays his affection to me with another woman.

The woman was so mad and closed the main door with a huge bang that the sound echoed in the whole room. Cai go directly to the Kitchen and told me, “I bought all the ingredients and I am going to make you with my best pancake and a huge glass of milk, and we can go back to sleep”

I raised my brows subconsciously and he said “Come on, not that kind of sleep. I desperately need to sleep to rest my robust body and we can go out tonight”

I smiled, enjoyed my breakfast, and sleep tight to his arms.

 When will you really see me, Cai?
