The next day at office number 66 of the Yenko Bulding International, behind his fine wooden desk sat Chief Krathos Yenco. Immersed in his work, he hadn't wanted to know anything about his wife's condition since yesterday; he wasn't interested.
Theodor, his trusted assistant for the past 12 years, quickly entered his office with a worried look. Glancing hesitantly at his boss, he decided to apologize first.
"I apologize for entering without announcing myself, Chief, but the police just called, and they're saying you need to go to the hospital immediately..."
Krathos frowned and looked at him with displeasure, fixing an inquiring gaze on his assistant, demanding an explanation.
"Ahem... they indicate that Mrs. Luna is on the ledge of the hospital and is threatening to take her own life, and they ask that you go to persuade..." Knowing the hatred his boss harbored for his wife, the assistant was nervous about being scolded or punished, but he had a really bad feeling about this.
He had snuck out the previous night to check on Mrs. Luna, as he called her. From the first time he saw her, he thought she was a beautiful, kind, and loving girl. However, over the past ten years, he had witnessed her being destroyed day by day, and he didn't agree with any of it, but he couldn't do anything.
Upon seeing her, he was horrified. He couldn't believe what he saw in that hospital bed. She was a shell of a human being without a soul, a breathing corpse. The light of life had definitely been extinguished, and he was even more concerned after the call from the police a few minutes ago.
Krathos looked away from his computer and snorted with annoyance as he thought about how bothersome that stupid woman was all the time.
"Let's go," he said, grabbing the jacket of his tailored suit and taking long strides toward the door.
Downstairs, as Chief Yenko exited like a king from his palace, Carolyn Swang saw him with concern. As his scheduler and right hand, she didn't know he needed to leave. Anxious, she approached them, but Theodor, the assistant, gave her a quick explanation. She decided to accompany them, as she didn't want to miss the show.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital where a large number of police cars, firefighters, and the inevitable onlookers were gathered. A police officer hurried towards Kratos.
"Mr. Yenko, your wife is in a risky situation. We haven't been able to persuade her. We hope that you can calm her down and help us get her down." The policeman was informative but worried. Like Theodor, he had a bad feeling.
But Krathos was calm. To him, this was just another one of her protests, this time over the death of her mother. She just wanted to shame her family and him, as always.
On the ledge of the hospital, a slender figure swayed like a leaf in the wind as her thin white hospital gown swirled with the breeze.
When Krathos arrived with the assigned firefighter near the scene, he could make out the bony back of his wife, which protruded from the opening of the thin white hospital gown. Her vertebrae were prominent, indicating Luna's terrible state of thinness.
"Get down from there. Stop embarrassing yourself and all of us. Stop making such a ridiculous scene. Don't make me lose my patience, or I'll punish you, I'm warning you." But he received no response. She just swayed back and forth in complete silence.
"If you don't come down, I can't guarantee your father will have a peaceful life in jail. It's up to you." Krathos spoke in a harder, more threatening tone. Luna's back tensed, making her flinch. The corners of Krathos's lips lifted as his eyes gleamed with cruelty. He knew that would work, and this would be over soon.
The woman turned to look at him as she swayed awkwardly. At that moment, Kratos could see her face.
Her eyes, devoid of life, her face impassive, she was just a shell, empty. This made the man frown with concern. According to the marriage contract, if Luna divorced him or died because of him, he would lose the presidency of the company, making room for his cousin Hegel to become president and head of the Yenko Clan.
"I don't care. You'll do it anyway just to hurt me. You want to hurt my father? Go ahead, I don't care anymore." With a hoarse but cold voice, Luna didn't seem concerned about his threats. They had broken her definitively.
Hidden in Luna's right hand appeared a sizable knife, which she held with the tip pressed against the base of her sternum. She was serene, without any visible emotion.
Kratos's eyes widened. Everyone present gasped in shock. Carolyn, who was watching with satisfaction and crossed arms, dropped them at the scene before her eyes. She knew about the marriage agreement, and this would be the end of all her efforts to become the great Lady Yenko.
"What the hell do you think you're doing? I'm warning you, don't you dare do something crazy. Luna Valerian, you are my wife, you are mine. I won't let you do something stupid," the man yelled. He had already lost his composure. This was getting out of hand.
"Do you think I care about your opinion or what you want or don't want? Do you think you and that bitch have the power to do whatever you want with me? I don't give a damn about either of you. You're just a couple of hyenas, a bastard and a whore who are together because you're perfect for each other.
"But I will get revenge on you disgusting pigs, be it in this life or the next. You are going to pay for the death of my mother, for my unborn children. I swear I will make you pay.
"...SEE YOU IN HELL, BASTARD..."
She pressed the knife, which plunged sharply and surely as Luna fell into the void before anyone could do anything to stop her.
Her white shirt quickly stained red on her chest, and her figure disappeared from everyone's sight.
Kratos was paralyzed. He felt his chest explode. It seemed like the floor was moving under his feet. He was pale and haggard. He couldn't believe what was happening. She was gone, gone never to return.
