Chapter 4

May walked down Reel st. 4th ave. and knocked on the house with the numbers 5671 imprinted on the door. She hadn't been here in years, but she distinctly remembered the house, memories of her and Kaylin came flooding back, as they did May pictured Kaylins tear filled eyes of the day she told her she didn't want to be her friend.  Her throat tightened with sorrow and she choked on the harsh words of the past, it took all her will to greet whoever opened the door. Mrs. Charles opened the door with a look of surprise and quickly invited May inside. Mrs. Charles sat May down and stared at the young girl in disbelief.

"Oh my look how tall you. are and you look so pretty,  where have you been all these years?"

" I- I've been busy.." May replied awkwardly.

" Well I've missed you so much." Mrs. Charles continued, obviously knowing the real reason why she hasn't visited.

" I know I hurt Kaylin but I want to talk to her..."

"Ohh, um May, I don't think that's a good idea-"

" Ohh please, just let me clear things up, I need this. I- I, just please."

"Okay.." Mrs. Charles replied in a sympathetic tone. "Kaylin to come downstairs, we have a guest!"

Then Mrs. Charles quietly left to her room. As Kaylin walked into the living room she gasped in surprise when she saw May sitting on the couch. Kaylin walked over swiftly to her and grabbed her by the arm.

“What are you doing here?” she whispered in a harsh tone.

"Look. I'm  here to apologize."

"Ohh shut up, you don't care."

"No, I do, I'm sorry, okay?! I didn't mean to hurt you!" May exclaimed as Kaylins grip grew harder.

" Get out of here, I don't ever want to see you again!" Kaylin yelled, her eyes filling with tears.

“No! I'm not leaving! I'm not going to just abandon our friendship,” May replied as if she was a woman on a mission, her goals set out ahead of her.

“Really? Because you sure didn't mind abondanding me three years ago, when I needed you most!” Kaylin exclaimed, her voice starting to crack with sadness.

“Kaylin, I'm so sorry, but hear me out!” May said, starting to cry.

" I know I was a jerk okay?" May said. " And I'm truly sorry."

"Yeah you are a jerk." Kaylin replied. "Who deserts their friend like that?"

"I didn't want to, It was my mom.."

Kaylins eyes widened and she finally loosened her grip, stepping back, looking baffled as if she just realized something. Kaylin finally listened to May and May told her about  what her mother thought of their family and how she had basically forced May to end their friendship, and about what had happened to her family when her dad went missing. The two girls had finally realized how much they both were going through three years ago. And not long after they both dropped down to their knees and began to cry. It was one of those weird moments where the best way to have a deep conversation was to just cry and have each other take in your emotions and mend the broken pieces of your life. While the two girls were having this deer moment Mrs. Charles, Kaylins Grandma walked in and grew worried at the sight of two sobbing sophomore girls, when she went over to stop what seemed to be a fight Kaylin jumped up and said they were okay, and only catching up. Okay… That's alot better. I like okay.  May thought.
