Creation

I had no recollection of when my existence began, before I knew it I was already traversing through the realms. I had only one purpose for this world, and that was to oversee my Master's creation.

He was a being who transcends time and space. He created the world and everything in it, he had gifted his life to them, different creatures were born, places full of life existed. The creatures he had made was the same as me, beings who had intellect.

My Master had called me his prototype and gave me a name, Arius.

When I had asked him why he created me, he said it was because he was lonely.

Lonely beings were the most pitiful creatures.

So as to not get lonely, I have been with my Master for a long time. But my presence alone wasn't enough for him, therefore he created the world. Thus other beings were born.

I stayed by his side and watched my Master enjoy the creations he made, followed without complaint as his life was given in exchange for another being.

We roamed the lands together, the world he had created was extravagantly beautiful. Fresh greenery as far as the eyes can see, trees and flowers where the creatures lived in harmony, loud waves in the sparkling sapphire sea. Along with those are the beings who were born with my Master's life.

Humans, he called them. Beings who had short lives but full of life. I could tell that my Master was fond of them. Even though I knew that the humans were the source of his continued weakened state, I couldn't bare it in me to hate them. For those humans were the proof of my Master's life, and he had loved them all equally.

"Soon my fire will go out." He said out of the blue. My Master waited till I gave him my full attention. "May I request something from you, Arius?"

"Anything you ask, Master."

"Continue to watch over them, protect them if you must, intervene if you find it necessary." He chuckled, "They are peculiar beings. You will find them hard to understand sometimes, but that what makes this world interesting."

"Here," White light envelope his hands, he handed me the strange thing he made. "The humans called this and Hourglass, from now on this will be your heart. The last of my remaining power resides in here. You will need this in case anything happens."

"What could happen when you're gone, Master?"

"Beings who exist because of my life will also have a partial part of my power. Over time you will know if my power exist in them."

I nodded at his words, my Master ruffled my golden locks affectionately. That night, the thing humans called an Hourglass became my heart.

———

It wasn't long after that my Master finally departed the world he made. He's body returned back to the stars, where he originally came from, and I was left here to continue on our journey.

As time passed, I had learn to love his creations, for they were the proof of his existence. No matter how much time passed, I didn't forget my purpose.

The civilization advanced on their own, as my Master said, I was only here as an overseer. I did not participate in any events related to mankind, I simply wandered from place to place keeping an eye out for this world.

Not long after, beings born with his power arrived. First, it was what the humans called the Holy Clan, for their appearance resembled those of my Master, and the humans treated them like God. As time passed, they had forgotten the true origin of this world, of who's life it was that was given to them.

But I did not mind, my Master live within me, as long as I am here I will never forget.

After that, like Master, human lives came and go. With his flame burning inside them a place called the underworld was created, it was where the souls of people come to rest. Souls that where directly connected to him became the rulers of the Underworld, they had become what the humans called Demon Clan.

I realized soon after that the Holy represented my Master's hope and desire for this world, while the Demons showed the ugly side of him, his hatred and despair. It didn't matter to me though, no matter what existence it became, it was still him, they were still a part of my Master's existence.

Moving from place to place I did nothing but walk through this world. Nothing but repetitive actions day by day. I tried to enjoy the bright skies and the cool breeze, the refreshing scent of nature, but alas it wasn't the same as before.

For starters, I had come to know why my Master had made me and this world. There was nothing more miserable than being on your own.

I gazed at the blue sky as far as the eyes can see, "Should I visit that place?" I murmured, contemplating about seeing them.

Ever since I was born I saw nothing but the bright side, then what about the dark that comes after that? No one has paid any attention to them before. I want to know the other part of him that he's never shown me before.

Using my magic, I secretly opened the gates of the Underworld. What I saw there was not that different from the one above. It was like an exact replica, but darker. The skies was a never ending darkness, the greenery in the underworld was deep in color, as if it was never green to begin with, different colors of grey could be seen all around the place. Nothing like the brightness of the one above.

Strangely, the dark atmosphere suited this place, as if it rightfully belonged here. The clan they called Demons still had their human appearance, they were merely souls who had passed away. However, once they tried going back to the surface, their form morphs into that of a horrible creature.

For that was the law of this world. The dead can never go back to the surface and continue life, for that was a cycle that even my Master could not escape from.

I moved towards the looming castle at the center, in that place where the souls who had directly received my Master's life resides. They were the strongest on the Underworld.

"You cannot pass any further." The guard at the entrance blocked my path.

"I wish to speak to the ruler of this place."

"Such insolence! Do you hear yourself speaking young man?" The guard glared with annoyance.

"Listen here, brat! Our lord is not someone you can meet that easily!"

I tilted my head to the side, "Hmm, that will be quite a problem. What should I do? The Holy recognized my presence right away, but here is a little different." It was understandable that the Demons did not recognize my connection to my Master, for I had been in the surface for a long time. The above had the most magic connected to him, and recently those who knew of his existence these days were the old civilization who had directly received my Master's life.

But still, they should recognize my words somehow. "Tell your Masters that the one who stood by His side is here, if that doesn't convince them then say my name, The Overseer."

The guards were still skeptical so I threatened them, "You will come to regret it deeply if you do not convey my words." I smiled at them, which seemed to send shivers down their spines as they did as I said.

Not long after, they let me inside. A person greeted me at the entrance, he looked like one of those human servants who lived in fancy houses, if I recall they are often called butlers.

"This way, sir." He lead the way through the dark halls of the castle, after a few minutes of walking he opened one of the doors and motioned me inside.

I entered without delay, once inside I saw a man who was already waiting there for me. I knew right away that this person was the Ruler of the underworld. Master's presence was stronger around him other than the butler from earlier.

"You must be the overseer." He greeted, "Please take a seat. I will ask for some tea but souls do not eat, merely existing."

"It's fine." I sat down across from him. The man before me had black hair and porcelain skin. His yes a deep shade of ink, showing what race he belonged to. As the saying goes, the eyes are the window to the souls.

"May I ask what matters do you have with us demons that you'd personally come here yourself? As far as I know, the overseer shall never leave the the place of his creation."

"But this place is also a part of his creation, is it not? This place was created due to the large portion of his powers that gathered here thanks to the souls."

The man grinned, "Yes, you are correct. Perhaps this was his way of protecting us till the end. Although he is not here, his powers bore fruit to the underworld and gave us a home after we were removed from the above."

"You were not removed, you died." I looked him in the eyes, "The dead has no place for the living. That is the right order of this world."

"Was that what that being said?" The man leaned forward, "Excuse me, esteemed sir, ever since I met you on that day I had always wondered." He mused out loud.

I tilted my head to the side, so many events had happened so far in my life that I do not recall when I met this child. Even my memories of those days seems like a distant pass to me.

"Ah, you must have no recollection." He snapped his fingers, he figured out what I was thinking right away. "A thousand years ago, you and that being came to us. He gave us a small flame of his life, and with that our intellect was born."

"Ever since I saw you, I had always thought why was this person able to serve by his side? Why not us who shared his flame? Wasn't it unfair?" His smile widened, "My life ended not long after that, and I had roamed this barren land with nothing but ash and grey as a soul. Soon, more souls came, and our population grew. Most of the souls during those years were those of people who had received his flame. As the flames came together so was our desire to go back to that world. Alas, our desires were heard, and the underworld was born, but this place is nothing but a fake replica with the same ashes and dull grey. It is so frustratingly unfair."

I listened quietly to his tale. "Not long after the Holy Clan started existing. Why was it, that a different race from the humans were allowed to live above while we remained here? We soon noticed that the Holy Clan were also souls of people who had died, but they were different than us. They were people who was given a chance to live and exist again in that world." His fist clenched, his smile didn't falter and the darkness in his eyes remained cold. "So tell me, why was it that they got to live while we are stuck here?"

I opened my mouth to answer his question, as on overseer, I know everything that's been happening around this world. "They are souls who do not have his flame."

His eyes widened at my answer, then he suddenly burst out laughing. "I see, how cruel." He stood up, "I'm sorry but I have to excuse myself now."

Without waiting for my response he was already out the door. I sighed, looks like my purpose for coming here wasn't successful.
