Ricochet

The condition turned out to be so critical that it left everybody in a state of confusion. Nobody knew how to react, whether say something or just keep quiet. " Hey!! let's start having lunch ", said I to all my guys when I saw their puzzled faces, " I've got healthy veggies and fruits today... although they don't taste soo well, but atleast they prevent me from growing pig fat. " I opened up the lunch box that I carried with me and a fresh smell started to reach their nose. I moved the box in my hand closer to the ' witch ' in a manner of offering. "You should eat more of vegetables and less fats...you look like a growing plum these days. " Everyone around me started laughing secretly and showed a pretty smiley face to her. She tried her best to suppress her anger from the insult I caused her, because she knew that she could stand no chance of defending herself in front of me. The words had almost choked her voice and feebly she dared to speak again, "I said something... " she frowned. " Ohh!... really ?... I'm so sorry for not paying attention to what you chattered " , said I with utter politeness, " since no one reacted to it, I hope it was a very trivial matter that does not require me to waste time on it." Her temperament had crossed all boundaries and she left with frustration...frustration because she could not let me down. May be making a joke of me was her solemn purpose of life then.

The next morning when everything was cool after the previous day's heated argument, I went straight up to her to apologize. It might sound crazy but I felt bad for her. I know how it feels to be embarrassed. Though her intentions were wrong and she meant to hurt me, my feelings behind the apology were sincere. When she saw me approaching, she indulged herself into reading the text book that was kept on her table. It was clear from her actions that she wished to ignore me the same way I did as the page she turned to was inscribed with external references. Who reads that page...!!... anyway, I didn't think much and tapped my fingers on her table in a rhythmic manner, creating a somewhat high beat music... high beat because the movement of my fingers was quite fast, and music because it sounded pretty good. I did so for drawing her full attention which otherwise she would never had given me. Her proudy nose rose majestically with her but was chopped off before touching it's true glory...in other words she could not make it up to my height and barely reached my shoulders. Not noticing other details I lowered my head maintaining proper eye contact with her and wholeheartedly spoke the words, "I'm sorry for whatever I said yesterday... even if I mean it, I'm still sorry if you felt bad... hope you don't mind. " She was shocked with my apology...maybe because she had expected another argument and had done pre- preparations for humiliating me.

With a lot of disappointment and a hope of causing me trouble she said, " you are such a coward... when you had the guts to insult me in front of everyone, then why not apologize to me publicly? " I felt justified with her point and asked everyone to come over. In front of the whole class I said sorry to her but she still seemed dissatisfied. She stuck with her ulterior motive of disgracing my dignity. " Why do you always dress so plainly... you should wear some fancy accessories to look better ", said she with overflowing attitude, " remember yesterday you told my to eat less fat to become slim... is it me who needs your beauty treatment or you... " I was done this time after hearing her giggles. She had deliberately put her hand into the hungry lioness's mouth and now was her time to tolerate the consequences. " You know what...I was really wrong...no matter what you do, you can never become beautiful...even you know this no matter how hard you try to deny it " spoke I with anger. I turned around to go back to my seat when I heard her yelling " you came to say sorry... do you think I will forgive you? " I turned back and said " my job was just to accept my mistake yet I endured your nonsense... as far as your great 'forgiveness' is concerned, let me tell you that I don't care... it makes no difference to my life. " I walked out with steady and aligned steps, specially to emphasizing on my style to let people recall of who I was.
