Jeon Jungkook had always been the brightest person in the Jeon family.
A carefree university student, cheerful, sweet, and a true-blood omega, Jungkook had never imagined that his parents—Jeon J-Hope and Jeon Jackson—would arrange his marriage.
And certainly not with Kim Taehyung.
Thirty years old.
An enigma.
The CEO of Kim Empires.
At first, Jungkook wasn't happy about the marriage. He barely knew Taehyung, and the thought of spending his life with someone he hadn't chosen frightened him.
But Taehyung never forced him.
Instead, he slowly became the person Jungkook could rely on.
Even with a company to run and endless responsibilities, Taehyung always made time for him.
He remembered Jungkook's favorite food.
He stayed beside him when he was upset.
He listened to his endless university stories.
And whenever Jungkook needed him, Taehyung was there.
Little by little, the marriage stopped feeling like something Jungkook had been forced into.
It became home.
And somewhere along the way...
Jungkook fell in love.
One year later, their families received news that changed everything.
Jungkook was pregnant.
Kim Seokjin, an alpha and Taehyung's mother, nearly cried from happiness.
Kim Namjoon, Taehyung's enigma father, was equally overjoyed.
Both families surrounded Jungkook with love and care throughout his pregnancy.
They endured his sudden mood swings, his strange cravings, his tears over tiny things, and the days when his hormones made everything feel overwhelming.
Taehyung was always there through it all.
Until one week before Jungkook's due date.
That afternoon, Taehyung received an emergency call from one of his overseas companies.
Something serious had happened.
He had to leave immediately.
Jungkook didn't like it.
He stood near the doorway with his arms crossed, trying not to look worried.
"How long?"
"One day," Taehyung promised.
He walked toward Jungkook and gently placed a hand against his swollen stomach.
Then he leaned down and kissed Jungkook's forehead.
Afterward, he pressed another soft kiss against the baby's bump.
"I'll be back tomorrow."
Jungkook looked at him suspiciously.
"You better."
Taehyung smiled.
"I will."
Those were the last words Jungkook ever heard from him.
That night, Jungkook's water broke.
Everything happened at once.
His family rushed him to the hospital.
Hours later, the sound everyone had been waiting for finally echoed through the delivery room.
A baby's cry.
A beautiful baby girl had been born.
But while Jungkook was holding his newborn daughter for the first time...
Taehyung was gone.
The plane carrying him to the other country had crashed.
There were no survivors.
When the news reached Taehyung's family, the entire world seemed to stop.
Kim Seokjin couldn't speak.
Kim Namjoon stood frozen, unable to process the words.
The Jeon family was equally devastated.
But one thought terrified everyone more than anything else.
Jungkook.
Jungkook had just given birth.
He was exhausted, emotional, and completely unaware that the man he loved would never walk through that hospital door again.
So they made a decision.
They wouldn't tell him that night.
Not while he was still recovering.
Not while he was holding his newborn daughter.
Not yet.
They would give him one more night of peace.
The next morning, Jungkook kept looking toward the hospital entrance.
"Taehyung should be back today."
Nobody answered.
Jungkook smiled at his daughter.
"Your appa promised he'd come back."
The silence around him became unbearable.
Finally, both families gathered around his hospital bed.
Jungkook looked from one face to another.
His smile slowly disappeared.
"Why is everyone looking at me like that?"
Seokjin's eyes filled with tears.
"Jungkook..."
"What happened?"
No one could say it.
Namjoon finally stepped forward, his voice trembling.
"Taehyung's plane..."
Jungkook's heart immediately sank.
"What about his plane?"
Namjoon couldn't continue.
Jungkook stared at him.
Then Seokjin whispered the words none of them wanted to say.
"Taehyung isn't coming home."
The room went completely silent.
Jungkook's lips parted.
"No."
His arms tightened around his tiny daughter.
"No... he said he'd come back today."
His voice broke.
"He promised."
Seokjin began crying.
Jungkook shook his head repeatedly.
"No. You're lying."
He looked toward the door.
"He'll come."
His tears finally fell.
"Taehyung always comes back."
But the door remained closed.
No footsteps came.
No familiar voice called his name.
Jungkook looked down at his daughter.
She had Taehyung's eyes.
Taehyung's little nose.
Even the tiny expression on her face reminded him of the man he loved.
Jungkook pressed his daughter against his chest and broke down.
"He looks like you..."
His voice became barely audible.
"Why does she look so much like you?"
He held her tighter, tears falling onto the blanket.
"You promised me..."
His shoulders trembled.
"You promised you'd come back."
The baby began crying softly in his arms.
Jungkook closed his eyes.
For the first time since their marriage, Taehyung wasn't there to hold him.
And the cruelest part was...
Jungkook had finally understood what home meant.
Only to lose the person who had made it feel like home.
