Episode 14 – The Last Shadow
The black circle continued glowing beneath the mansion.
Slowly.
Silently.
No one noticed it at first.
Ali stood beside his mother.
For the first time in years, he finally felt that one part of his life had returned to him.
His mother looked at him.
"You've grown up."
Ali smiled faintly.
"You missed a lot."
Her eyes filled with emotion.
"I know."
Faris stepped closer.
"We don't have much time."
Ali looked at him.
"Why?"
Faris pointed toward the underground chamber.
"The Shadow Council may be gone from this mansion."
"But Dr. Kareem isn't."
Suddenly—
BOOM!
The ground shook.
Everyone turned.
Zayan immediately reached for his weapon.
"That came from below."
Ali's expression changed.
"No."
His mother looked at him.
"Ali?"
Ali stared toward the floor.
"The gateway."
Another explosion shook the mansion.
BOOM!
Dust fell from the ceiling.
Bilal looked around nervously.
"I thought we closed that thing."
Ali looked at his mother.
"We did."
She shook her head.
"Then something is trying to open it again."
Everyone rushed back toward the underground chamber.
The black circle was glowing brighter than before.
At its center stood Dr. Kareem.
Ali's eyes narrowed.
"You."
Dr. Kareem smiled.
"Welcome back."
Ali stepped forward.
"It's over."
Dr. Kareem laughed.
"No, Ali."
He pointed toward the black circle.
"Look around you."
The Shadow began spreading across the floor again.
Ayesha stepped back.
"Ali..."
Faris shouted,
"Don't let it reach you!"
Ali raised his hand.
The darkness stopped.
Dr. Kareem's smile disappeared.
Ali stared at him.
"You still don't understand."
Dr. Kareem frowned.
"What?"
Ali walked closer.
"You spent years trying to control the Shadow."
Ali looked at the black circle.
"But the Shadow was never the enemy."
His mother stared at him.
"Ali..."
Ali continued,
"The fear was the enemy."
The Shadow around the room became still.
Dr. Kareem shook his head.
"No."
Ali looked directly at him.
"Yes."
Dr. Kareem pressed a button.
The entire chamber began shaking.
"If I can't control it..."
He smiled.
"...no one will."
The black circle suddenly expanded.
A massive dark wave rushed toward the ceiling.
The mansion trembled.
Zayan shouted,
"ALI!"
But Ali didn't move.
He walked directly toward the darkness.
His mother grabbed his arm.
"No!"
Ali looked at her.
"I have to finish this."
Faris stepped forward.
"You don't have to do it alone."
Ali looked at his father.
Then at Adam.
Then at Zayan, Ayesha, Hamza, Bilal, and Noor.
For the first time, Ali smiled.
"I'm not alone."
Everyone stepped beside him.
Dr. Kareem laughed.
"Together?"
"You think friendship can stop this?"
Noor looked at him.
"No."
Ali answered.
"But choice can."
The Shadow suddenly rose into the air.
It surrounded Ali.
Dr. Kareem raised his hand.
"Obey me!"
Nothing happened.
His expression changed.
He tried again.
"I created this project!"
The Shadow moved.
But not toward Ali.
It moved toward Dr. Kareem.
His smile disappeared.
"No."
The darkness surrounded him.
Dr. Kareem stepped backward.
"No! Stay away from me!"
Ali looked at him.
"For years, you treated everyone like a weapon."
Dr. Kareem stared at him.
"You don't understand!"
Ali shook his head.
"No."
"I finally do."
The black circle began closing.
Dr. Kareem tried to escape.
But the door behind him locked.
CLICK.
His face filled with fear.
"Ali!"
Ali looked at him.
"Let it go."
Dr. Kareem shook his head.
"I can't!"
Ali's expression softened.
"Then that's the difference between us."
The darkness stopped.
For one final moment, it surrounded Dr. Kareem.
Then the black circle pulled the darkness inward.
Dr. Kareem disappeared from the chamber.
The black circle began shrinking.
Ali's mother stepped toward him.
"Ali!"
Ali looked down.
The Shadow around his feet was disappearing.
He knew what it meant.
Faris noticed too.
"Ali..."
Ali looked at his father.
"It's okay."
The final piece of darkness disappeared.
The black circle closed.
CLICK.
Silence filled the chamber.
The mansion stopped shaking.
The lights slowly returned.
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Bilal looked around.
"So..."
Hamza looked at him.
"What?"
Bilal took a deep breath.
"Is it finally over?"
A small laugh escaped Ayesha.
"Hopefully."
Zayan looked toward Ali.
"How do you feel?"
Ali looked at his hands.
Normal.
For the first time in years, there was no darkness around him.
No voices.
No fear.
Just silence.
Ali smiled.
"Free."
His mother stepped toward him.
She placed her hand on his face.
"I'm sorry."
Ali looked at her.
"For what?"
"For leaving you."
Ali remained silent.
She continued.
"I wanted to protect you."
Ali looked at her.
"I know."
His mother smiled through her tears.
Ali hugged her.
Faris stood beside them.
For a moment, he looked uncertain.
Ali noticed him.
He looked at his father.
Faris gave a small smile.
"I know I don't deserve—"
Ali interrupted him.
"You were there when I needed you."
Faris looked surprised.
Ali continued,
"We can figure out the rest later."
For the first time, Faris smiled.
Adam watched them from a distance.
Ali walked toward him.
"You're leaving?"
Adam nodded.
"My job is done."
Ali shook his head.
"No."
Adam looked at him.
"What?"
Ali smiled.
"You promised to protect me."
Adam laughed softly.
"That was a long time ago."
Ali held out his hand.
"Still counts."
Adam looked at Ali's hand.
Then shook it.
The team finally walked out of the underground chamber.
The sun was rising.
For the first time, light entered the old mansion.
Ayesha looked outside.
"It's beautiful."
Hamza smiled.
"We survived."
Bilal raised both hands.
"And I officially never want to see another haunted mansion."
Everyone laughed.
Even Noor.
Ali stood outside and looked back at the mansion.
It no longer felt like a prison.
It was simply an old building.
A place where his life had been broken.
And where the truth had finally set him free.
Zayan stood beside him.
"What now, Shadow Walker?"
Ali looked at him.
Then at his friends.
His family.
Ali smiled.
"Maybe..."
He paused.
"...it's time to find out who I am without the Shadow."
His mother smiled.
"And who are you?"
Ali looked toward the rising sun.
"My name is Ali Shaheen."
He looked back one final time.
"And that's enough."
The team walked away from the mansion together.
Behind them, the morning light slowly covered the walls.
And for the first time in many years...
there were no shadows left.
