Chapter 29: The Sovereign Summit
The glass-and-steel expanse of Vance Tower in Manhattan rose like a monolith against the clear New York evening. Fifty floors above the street, the grand ballroom was bathed in the warm, ambient glow of crystal chandeliers and the dazzling skyline reflecting off the floor-to-ceiling windows.
It was the formal gala marking the completion of the Eurozone integration—a gathering of global tech titans, central bankers, and foreign dignitaries. Yet, despite the staggering wealth in the room, the crowd’s collective attention gravitated toward a single point of undeniable power at the elevated center of the room.
Natalie stood at the edge of the glass mezzanine, holding a glass of champagne. She wore a floor-length, emerald-green silk gown with an asymmetrical neckline that draped like armor over her slender frame. The diamond necklace around her collar caught the light with every subtle movement, but it was the quiet, absolute authority in her dark eyes that commanded the floor.
Beside her, Sebastian was a study in formidable elegance. In a tailored black tuxedo, his imposing posture and razor-sharp jawline drew every eye in the room. His hand rested naturally against the small of her back—not as a gesture of ownership, but as an anchor of an unshakeable, shared front.
"Look at them," Sebastian murmured, his deep baritone barely audible over the soft jazz playing below. He tilted his head toward a cluster of high-ranking Manhattan shareholders huddled near the bar, watching the two of them with a mixture of awe and residual fear. "Six months ago, half those men were placing bets on how many weeks you would last in the Vance estate."
Natalie took a slow sip of her champagne, a sharp, intoxicating smile touching her lips. "And now they wait in line for three minutes of my time just to pitch an acquisition."
"Because they know who holds the true keys to the kingdom," Sebastian whispered, his breath warm against her ear, sending a pleasant shiver down her spine. "The board approved the global restructuring petition this afternoon. Unanimously."
"No objections from the legacy faction?"
"They know better," Sebastian replied smoothly, his thumb lightly caressing the small of her back through the fine silk of her dress. "Alistair’s quiet departure from the European board sent a very loud message to anyone thinking of challenging your authority."
Before Natalie could answer, Marcus—their chief legal council—approached the mezzanine stairs, holding a slim leather folder. He bowed his head slightly in deference, a look of profound respect on his face.
"Mrs. Vance. Mr. Vance," Marcus said, opening the folder to reveal two heavy, parchment-bound documents bearing the golden crest of the Vance Group. "The final legal filings for the sovereign trust have been recorded with the state. All voting rights, global assets, and veto powers across both the American and European branches are officially divided equally between the two of you."
Natalie looked down at the documents. There were no hidden clauses, no conditional marriage agreements, and no lingering debts. It was a complete, legal declaration of equal co-rulership.
She picked up the fountain pen Marcus offered, her signature flowing smoothly across the heavy parchment. Sebastian took the pen next, signing his name beside hers without a second's hesitation.
"It is done," Marcus said, taking the folder back. "Congratulations, directors."
As Marcus stepped away, Sebastian turned to face her fully, taking both of her hands in his. The surrounding room, the soft hum of the gala, and the flashing lights of the city below seemed to dissolve, leaving only the fierce, electric connection between them.
"When you first walked into my office," Sebastian said, his icy blue eyes burning with an intense, unvarnished devotion, "you were supposed to be a leverage piece. A transaction to settle a debt."
"I remember," Natalie murmured, a playful, lethal glint in her eyes. "You told me you expected total compliance."
Sebastian let out a low, dark laugh—a sound reserved only for her. He raised her right hand to his lips, brushing a gentle, lingering kiss against the platinum band on her finger.
"I was a fool," he admitted freely, his voice dropping into a raw, deeply intimate register. "You weren't a piece to be moved, Natalie. You were the player who remade the entire board. I didn't marry a captive. I found my equal."
Natalie stepped closer, her hands sliding up the lapels of his tuxedo, her gaze locked onto his with unwavering strength.
"We built this empire out of war, Sebastian," she whispered against his lips. "And now we rule it together."
Sebastian closed the small distance between them, capturing her lips in a deep, possessive kiss that resonated with all the power, passion, and victory of their journey. High above the city that belonged to them, surrounded by the remnants of the enemies they had conquered, Natalie and Sebastian Vance stood unified—a king and queen ruling a global dynasty built to last forever.
