Chapter 1: The Golden Thread of Fate.
A world where the weak have no place—where only the powerful rule. And in this world, power has a synonymous title: Money. If you possess wealth, the entire world bends to your will.
Right now, you are probably picturing me as some spoiled, silver-spoon heiress, lounging comfortably in a lavish mansion, indulging in delicacies so obscure that their price tag could easily feed an ordinary person for a year. No, scratch that. Two years. Yes, easily two years.
"Young Lady, Madam has sent these garments for you from abroad. Shall I have them placed in your dressing room?" the maid asked, her voice a hushed, reverent whisper.
"How much do they cost?" I inquired, my fingers idly brushing against the exquisite fabric.
"I believe... twenty million, miss."
Before the maid could utter another syllable, I snatched a knife from the adjacent table and systematically shredded every single piece of clothing to ribbons.
The maids gasped in collective horror, instantly breaking into frantic whispers.
I didn't need to hear them to know what they were saying. “Look at the astronomical price of those clothes! She’s nothing but a spoiled brat, flaunting her father’s wealth. She has absolutely no respect for money.”
But that isn't the truth. If you truly want to know the reality, here it is: Every single cent of this fortune is mine. I earned it. And my parents? Well, they don't actually exist.
I know, I know—you're completely utterly confused. So, why don't you take a seat and watch this story unfold with me? Oh, forgive me. I meant read it.
Today is the school baseball tournament, which means I am going to make my grand entrance in the most expensive car in my garage.
"Young Lady, here are the keys to your fleet," the head butler said, presenting them on a tray. "Which car would you like to take today?"
I frowned, scanning the options. "What? I only have twenty cars? And why on earth are they all such hideous colors?"
The butler blinked, bewildered. "What? But... you purchased all of these yourself, Miss."
"I did?" I paused, a smirk playing on my lips. "Well, then my taste is absolutely impeccable."
My school is beautiful, isn't it? Stepping out of a hyper-luxury vehicle onto the grounds of such an elite academy... I suppose this is the ultimate dream of every student in this country. The institution I attend is the most expensive school in the nation. For a poor person to study here, they would likely have to be reincarnated a hundred times over, because they couldn't afford a single term's tuition even in a hundred lifetimes.
"Hey, Sierra! You look absolutely stunning today! Seriously, there isn't a girl prettier than you in this entire school."
That is my friend, Jenna. She is completely obsessed with beauty—makeup, high-end luxury brands, anything that can elevate a girl's allure. Her parents rank within the top ten of the country’s billionaire list, with a business empire that spans the entire nation.
"Oh come on, Sierra! Why didn't you tell me you were driving the sports car today? I would have hitched a ride with you!"
And this is my other friend, Bella. She is obsessed with everything related to hyper-cars, expensive gadgets, and computer engineering. She happens to be the daughter of a legendary global tech and AI genius. You could say she's the genius daughter of a genius father.
"Hey, girls," I murmured, leaning in. "You remember what I told you, right? Is everything ready?"
"Yes, we’re all set," they replied in perfect unison.
Today, I am about to pull off the most difficult, high-stakes, and crucial operation of my life.
My friends and I took our places in the VIP seats of the stadium to watch the match. But our eyes weren't on the game. They were locked onto a single boy—the boy I am going to propose to today.
Yes, you heard that right. His name is Zane Sterling.
This boy is, without a doubt, the most captivatingly handsome creature on the planet. He is also the sole heir to the nation's number-one conglomerate—the wealthiest family in the country. But what I love most about him is his sheer, unadulterated arrogance. Unbelievable, right? To this day, he has never so much as spoken to a girl. When he was merely eight years old, he wrote the source code for a high-tech aerospace program and built a fleet of mechanical drones. He isn't just a genius; he is a wealthy, gorgeous, brilliant, and impeccably refined aristocrat.
Suddenly, the stadium erupted into deafening cheers. Zane’s team had won.
Cue my proposal.
On my cue, a literal rain of exotic flowers began to cascade from the sky, courtesy of the men I hired to charter a fleet of helicopters. I had also spent a small fortune hiring an elite orchestra of violinists, who began to play a sweeping romance symphony throughout the stadium. Holding a massive, custom bouquet of the rarest blooms, I walked toward Zane with a soft, confident smile.
I stopped right in front of him, looking into his eyes, and spoke softly. "Will you marry me?"
The entire stadium went wild, chanting frantically: "Say yes! Say yes!"
But then, my grand moment completely shattered.
Without warning, a strange, ethereal blue light emitted from the bouquet. It materialized into a glowing thread, snaking through the air before automatically wrapping itself tightly around my finger
When my eyes snapped open, my wealth was gone.
"You worthless, lazy girl! You skipped school again today?!" a harsh, screeching voice boomed from behind me.
Before I could even process the words, a woman began beating my back like a festival drum.
I scrambled backward, completely disoriented. I was just at my elite academy—why was I suddenly sitting on a wooden cot in the courtyard of a cramped, hideous, dilapidated house? And my clothes... why did they smell so foul?
Panic seizing my chest, I let out a sharp scream and bolted out of the house. I ran blindly for what felt like hours, my mind racing, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Eventually, I reached the edge of a massive, roaring ocean. Slumping down onto a large rock by the shore, I tried to piece reality together.
What on earth is going on?
But the moment I looked down and caught my reflection in the water, my heart dropped into my stomach.
"My face... what happened to my face?!"
This wasn't me. Had I been transported to another universe? Was I trapped in someone else's body? Or was I dead? What kind of twisted nightmare was this?
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps crunching on the gravel broke the silence behind me.
I spun around, and my breath caught in my throat. Standing right there in front of me was Zane Sterling.
Wait a minute. Why was he wearing cheap, tattered rags? Had his empire gone bankrupt, or... had he been dragged into this bizarre world right along with me?
