Have you ever had an experience so bizarre, that had you questioning your own sanity?
It left me unsettled and unable to explain myself.
It was pretty late at night, when I was walking back home the other night. It wasn't too late and people were still around though very few. Not many lights were on at that hour, but I could manage to walk without a torch. I kept on walking and and have now reached the narrow stairway. I had to climb down a long stairway on my way home. The stairs were slippery as it had rained the whole day. I could hear my own and someone else's footsteps as I walked down a few steps. By then, it had stopped raining and the surrounding was quiet. Except for a few dogs barking and some owls hooting.
I turned around to see if I recognize the person behind me. But it was dark and I couldn't properly see the face. But the figure or silhouette looked like that of a lady, so I felt safe. As I kept on walking the footsteps grew closer and closer, almost as if the person was trying to walk with me. I stopped at some point, to hear the footsteps and it still continued behind me. By this time I had nearly reached home, I suddenly stopped to turn back and see the person but to my utter surprise, there was no one behind me.
As I continued on walking, I could now no longer hear the footstep behind me, only my own. Was it because I was now a bit far away? I also could no longer hear the dog barking nor the owl hooting. I came home and then went to bed for the night.
Just then, it struck me, there was no other way the person behind me could have gone, without me noticing other than falling into the pond,(which would have made a splash sound) or having climbed the cliff. The only other possibility was he/she had grown wings and flown away.
Or,
Or
Or,
Was the thing behind me never a human to begin with? My hairs throughout my body stood on its ends at that thought. I asked myself, did I have a paranormal encounter? Because that was the only explanation. Had the person climbed the cliff-like corner, I would have heard the struggle, or even if fallen into the pond, I would've still heard it. Or more still, had the person gone back the way it came, I would've still heard the retracing steps.
I was left wondering what sort of thing had I encountered. And how did it stop following me once I nearly reached the gate of my home? I'm happy to be safe and sound but left with unanswered questions. I kept on questioning my own sanity ay some point but the footsteps continuing even when I stopped walking made no sense, unless there was someone else behind me. Looks like I'd stay up tonight as well thinking about what it might have been.
