There was John just sitting in the trench, he'd been there for a month and a half. Alway sitting there hungry and tired wishing he had never join the British army. John was part of the 31 first infantry division but he had never been in a real firefight. Then one day the 31 first were told that Germany would attack at dawn. So the troops had about 10 hours to prepare for their first fight and it was chaos in the barracks, some soldiers even ran away. But then when the German troops arrived John realized that it was a small squad of 8 soldiers. So the 31 first easily killed the soldiers. But John was shot in the back by a 50 cal rifle so he was transported to a military hospital and eventually sent home in a wheelchair because the rifle round broke his spine and it was a miracle that he survived.
