Adura thought as she rolled in her bed with a goofy smile on her face.
— time feels so slow at this point, it's still 11 pm — she looked at the wall clock opposite her bed and she pouted when she saw the time.
— but it's so late, I wonder where aunt Sirena is — adura thought.
She decided to try to fall asleep. She had only closed her eyes for a few minutes when she heard the front door opening. She immediately got up from bed and went to see who it was.
“ aunt Sirena, where have you been, do you know what time it is ” adura said when she saw who was at the door. She had a mixture of worry and relief plastered on her face.
“ sorry for making you worry. there was something I needed to do” aunt Sirena said.
“ and what was so important that you had to stay out so late at night. ” Adura asked
“ it's a surprise ” aunt Sirena said with a smile.
“ what.. you know I hate to be kept in suspense ” Adura said with a playful anger.
“ well if you want to know what the surprise is, you'll have to go find it by yourself.” aunt Sirena said as she walked into the living room and sat down.
Adura followed closely behind her and kept begging her to reveal what the surprise was
“ aunt, the suspense is already killing me. Please tell me what it is. ” Adura asked with a pouting face.
Aunt Sirena brought out a neatly folded paper from her bag and handed it to Adura.
Adura excitedly took the paper and opened it.
“ aunt what is this ” arura asked with a confused expression, the paper contained a map but she did not know what the map was for.
“ it's a map leading to your birthday surprise ” aunt Sirena said
“ can you just tell me what it is ” Adura asked stubbornly
“ nope, I can do that. It'll ruin the surprise ” aunt Sirena said.
“ ok ” Adura said downcastedly.
“ I'll go find the surprise tommorow. ” she said as she wanted to stand up and go to her room looking dejected.
“ you'll have to go and find the surprise this night, ” aunt Sirena said a she caught hold of Adura's arm.
“ what...this night. Isn't it too late for that ”
Adura asked her aunt.
“ if you don't want to Know what the surprise is, then don't go ” aunt Sirena shrugged.
“ fine..fine. I'm going ” Adura said as she stood up to go to her room and change from her night gown.
Adura followed the map, and it led her to the park. She looked for the place marked x on the map but she could not find it.
After searching for about thirty minutes, she gave up, she was about to go back home when she noticed something on the ground.
There were two trees at a far end on the park, the shadows formed by the trees created an x shape on the ground.
— maybe that's it — Adura thought as she walked towards the trees.
As soon as she stepped into the x mark on the ground her phone alarm went off.
She took her phone out of her pocket and put off the alarm.
— finally, it's midnight, less that one minute till my birthday — she thought.
In her mind she started a countdown.
“happy eighteenth birthday to me “ she said out loud when she finally counted up to sixty.
At that moment, she noticed that the full moon in the sky seemed to shine more brightly as if it was also wishing her a happy birthday.
” thank you “ she whispered to the moon.
Adura looked around but she could not find a hint of the surprise, soon she became sleepy and decided to go home, she would come back to check for the surprise later.
Meanwhile, an inconspicuous Raven which had been watching adura since the time she came to the park suddenly flew away into the night sky.
” from the look on your face I can tell that you did not find the surprise “ aunt Sirena said when Adura walked into the living room.
” aunt, just tell me what the surprise is “ Adura grumbled a she shook her aunt's hand.
” if I do that, it'll no longer be a surprise “ aunt Sirena said, from the look on her face Adura could tell that her aunt would not tell her what the surprise was, so she just gave up and stood up to go-to her room.
” and before I forget, happy birthday dear “ aunt Sirena said.
” thank you aunt. I'm going to sleep now “adura said as she went to her room, she did not notice the look of worry in her aunt's eyes.
” I wonder what the problem is “ aunt Sirena whispered to herself as she watched Adura going to her room.
Adura woke up by 10 am, she was greeted with breakfast in bed by her aunt, after which she took her bath and went downstairs to celebrate her birthday with her friends who came to visit her.
The birthday celebrations went on till 10 pm,
Adura was exhausted, so as soon as she laid down on her bed, she fell asleep.
While she was sleeping, the moonlight entering her room through the window suddenly intensified. Her jet black, waist long hair instantly turned silver, and a strange mark appeared on her forehead.
This phenomenon lasted for some minutes before suddenly disappearing without a trace.
