Alexa spent the rest of the day in a haze of anger and determination. She couldn't believe Richard's audacity, and she was more determined than ever to outdo him.
As she walked into her last class of the day, she spotted Richard sitting in the back, looking like he owned the place.
Alexa's eyes narrowed. She was going to take him down, one way or another.
The teacher began to lecture, but Alexa's mind wandered. She started brainstorming ways to outsmart Richard, to prove that she was the better student.
But as she glanced over at Richard, she caught him staring at her. For a moment, their eyes locked, and Alexa felt a jolt of electricity.
She quickly looked away, her heart racing. What was wrong with her?
As the class came to a close, Alexa gathered her things and stood up. But as she turned to leave, she felt a hand on her arm.
It was Richard.
"Hey, Alexa," he said, his voice low. "I think we need to talk."
Alexa's eyes narrowed. "What about?"
Richard smiled. "About the competition. And maybe something more."
Alexa's heart skipped a beat. What did he mean?
