Scarlett had just started her new job at the downtown law firm when the message arrived.
It was an ordinary Tuesday. The air in her office hummed with the rhythmic tapping of keyboards, the scent of fresh coffee lingering in the space. She sat at her desk, reviewing case files, when a single sheet of paper slid through the crack in the door. There was no knock, no warning—just the silent delivery of something that felt... wrong.
She unfolded the paper, her heart stuttering in her chest as she read the message.
"I see you.I always see you.You're mine."
Her blood ran cold. She checked the office, but it was empty. She was alone. The walls felt suddenly suffocating. Her hands trembled as she picked up the pen, considering if she should write it off as a prank. But deep down, she knew it wasn’t.
The strange sensation lingered as she went through her day, her mind unable to shake the haunting words. No one in the office seemed to notice her unease, or maybe they just didn’t care. She couldn’t even bring herself to tell anyone; it felt too personal. Whoever had sent it knew her too well, the message somehow knowing her every movement.
As days passed, the notes kept coming. Handwritten letters slid under her office door, sometimes folded in perfect triangles, other times carelessly crumpled. They always contained the same chilling refrain:
"I see you."
"I know when you sleep."
"I’m waiting."
Her world became a spiral of paranoia. Every time she walked down the hall, she could feel eyes on her. She caught glimpses of someone watching her from the corner of her eye, but when she turned, there was no one there. Her once peaceful commute became a maze of dark alleys and shadows, and the usual hum of the office now seemed deafening with the weight of silent stares.
One evening, as she stayed late at the office, the air thick with the scent of ink and paper, the door creaked open. Scarlett spun in her chair, her breath caught in her throat.
He was there. The man from her dreams, or rather, her nightmares.
A tall figure, his silhouette black against the dim light, his presence overpowering. His dark hair framed a face that was both beautiful and terrifying, his piercing eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made her skin crawl.
"You’ve been running from me," he whispered, his voice a low rasp, sending shivers down her spine. "But I’m always here. Always watching."
Her pulse quickened as he stepped closer, his eyes never leaving hers, filled with a hunger she couldn’t quite understand. She knew she should scream, but something kept her rooted in place, the weight of his gaze more powerful than her fear.
"Why are you doing this?" she whispered, voice shaky.
He smiled, a dark, predatory smile. "Because you belong to me, Scarlett. You always have."
Before she could respond, he reached out, his fingers brushing against her cheek, sending a wave of warmth and terror flooding her veins.
"You’re mine," he murmured, his lips brushing her ear. "And I won’t let you go."
In that moment, she knew: there was no escape. He had found her, and now, she was his.
