It was one of the many battles between the families who bore the cloaks, and that of the capes. They had clashed at the outskirts of Totten, a village belonging to the Whit Family - a cloak bearer.
The Whit Family had their main forces, rounded up on a skirmish with that of the Ravens- the ruling family of the cloaks.
The heir of the Greanels, the ruling family of the capes had decided to raid around enemy lands. Being aware that they would be unable to receive reinforcements in time.
Totten was the best spot, being the village on the border between the cape bearing Hance Family and the Whit Family. This made it an easy escape for them, though the knights who bore coloured capes were proud, especially that of the Greanel Family.
Unbeknown to the Greanel heir, the Black Daggers of the Ravens, an elite force, were escorting the heiress of the Ravens to Whitestone for a visit.
Arriving at Whitestone in her purple cloak, Lucia Raven rode towards the Grand Mansion of the Whits.
Entering the Mansion, she was warmly welcomed by the servants of the mansion. Quickly greeting Lady Lyra, wife of Lord Whit, she headed straight for Lady Summer's room.
Summer was her childhood friend, she was bedridden yet as humourous and joyful as always.
It was the first day of the month and as she always did, Lucia had come to pick her up for a stroll out in town.
Summer had been dressed in one of her lady-like gowns which brought out the goddess in her.
Lucia always admired her beauty, she could freely flaunt it around day long.
Young men would surely crave for her, and she would have them at her feet with a snap of a finger.
That was if she wanted, yet Summer believed no one would want her due to her condition.
Unlike Summer, Lucia hid her beauty behind the cloaks and leather armour she always wore.
Her's was the battlefield not being locked up in a grand mansion, she loved to hack and slash with her beast weapons.
On the main street of Whitestone, a commotion was noticed at the city's north entrance. The north gate led out, towards borderlines which separated the Hance and Whit Families.
Informing one of her guards to find out what was happening, Lucia found out that a nearby village of the Whit was being raided.
She knew the main forces of the Whits were in a skirmish with her father. Thus Whitestone was poorly garrisoned with none of its forces to spare.
Lucia couldn't sit back and watch Totten burn down, so escorting Summer back she rounded up the Black Daggers.
The cloaks were always prepared for battle, unlike capes who had to get their squires to put on their shiny armours.
Leading the black cloaked forces of the Ravens, Lucia left Whitestone through the east gate with intentions of blocking off their exit.
The Greanel Ember Knights had already set Totten ablaze, and were transporting the raided goods in wagons to Handel- capital of the Hance Family.
The Black Daggers per plan, met with the Ember Knights as they were about to cross over to Hance territory.
They were too late as Totten was now beyond redemption, however the culprits wouldn't escape on her watch.
Flanking them, Lucia led the charge with her forces as they rained stings from their hand scorpions.
There and then, the battle between another cloak and cape began as blood splattered all over the battlefield.
Both forces were equally matched and equipped, with similar tiers of beast weapons. On the defensive with his knights was Gaius Greanel, flaunting his dark cape.
With his wind ability, he had repelled all the sting bolts on his side rendering them useless.
The Ember Knights were all water ability users, although their blue capes didn't have to do with their ability types, rather it's rank instead.
The battle raged on death, blood, water and flame all over as the sky darkened. Blades clanged, lances piercing, the screams of the fallen filling up the air.
For an hour, they exchanged blows, neither gaining the upper hand as their strength and skills were equally matched.
Riding through the battlefield with his lance was Gaius, he took out the opponents one by one warding off their flame attacks with gusts wind.
He had charged into the enemy lines, killing any black cloak which came at him.
From a distance, Lucia could see her men falling at a maddening rate with the reason being a dark caped with a lance.
She herself was occupied with two Ember knights, yet with a new target in mind, they were burned to a crisp in seconds.
Aiming for his head, she flung her dagger shrouded with flames despite her far distance.
The dagger flew fast, piercing through one knight head as it went.
Unluckily, the dagger had been too low after a single pierce. It impaled itself in the head of Gaius' horse, dealing a deathblow to it.
About to take out one of the black cloaks, he felt himself falling off his horse onto the ground.
His horse lay dead before him, with his lance falling off somewhere. However, the battle wasn't over as a fire strike came at him.
Resulting to close combat, he unsheathed his storm saber which went well with his wind ability.
Dodging the incoming flame strike, he rolled over disappearing right before the assassin's eyes. The sound of metal searing flesh was heard, yet the assassin didn't react as he kept his stance.
Like a blur, Gaius moved about him delivering cuts and dodging his counter flame attacks.
No matter the form of flame abilities the assassin resulted in, it was evaded with a cut to a part of his body. Bringing him down to his knees, Gaius smiled at him before shearing his head off.
Whoosh! A sting bolt went right past him, one with flames lingering around it. It was another black cloak coming at him, a dagger in hand.
Evading him, he grabbed and locked his arm with his before pushing him off his feet with a wind strike.
Bringing him down on his storm saber, he ended his life there and then with his beast weapon.
Seeing this as she neared Gaius, Lucia gritted her teeth, her face redden with anger under the hood.
Throwing her flaming daggers out in both directions, they went straight and pierced through the skulls of two knights.
They were engaged in their own battles, but she didn't give a damn about honour.
As killing them was her way of avenging those she just watched die, at the dark cape's hands.
She wouldn't give him a second more to live, drawing her beast weapon she sent out a powerful flame strike.
Gaius felt the temperature rising from behind, his instincts told him to dodge whatever was coming.
Rolling to the side, he now faced where the attack came from his saber gripped tightly.
Like a bolt of lightning, a figure in a purple cloak descended from above with a flaming sword in hand.
Shrouding his saber with his wind ability, he braced himself for it was too fast to evade.
With a booming sound, both blades collided as a large and powerful shockwave was released.
The blade had gotten to his thick helmet, severing it into two as it fell off Gaius face. At the same time Lucia's hood flew off, her face partially under a dark mask.
Gaius' eyes locked with Lucia's, their swords pushing against each other. For a fleeting moment, they hesitate, the chaos around them fading. They felt bound to each other, with only the mask hindering him from unveiling his bride.
Reaching for her mask through the opening between their blades, Lucia kicked off him. Twisting her body in the air, she landed a favorable distance away with eyes still on his.
They forgot about why they were battling each other until Gaius' gaze suddenly shifted from her eyes to her chest as he sized her up.
There and then, he could feel the temperature rising again and all he decided to do was run for his life.
