There have been a good few of them. One interesting case is that of Heather Saul, and her 2015 act of vigilantism was entirely accidental. Saul, a prostitute, met with clients online. She’d been talking to one potential client, Neal Falls, for quite a while online but had decided not to meet up with him as he gave her a “bad feeling”.
Mr. Falls would not take no for an answer, however, and managed to track down the address of Heather on the internet. One night she woke up to find him in her apartment… Falls held her at gunpoint and said she had to “do whatever he wanted”. She fought back, ferociously, and he never used the gun, leading her to believe he wouldn’t kill her because he “didn’t get what he needed yet”…
Eventually she reached for a rake in her hallway, hit Falls with it. He grabbed the rake with both hands, setting aside his gun, which Heather Saul immediately reached for. She aimed, pulled the trigger and shot Neal Falls in the head once. He dropped to the floor, dead on the spot…
Heather Saul called the police to the scene. They found an extensive “kill kit” in Neal Falls car, parked nearby Saul’s house. Knives, hammers, shovel, chemicals meant to dispose of a body… further investigation revealed he was a serial killer and likely killed at least ten women, most of them sex workers he met online.
